The book, like a lot of fantasy is a coming-of-age story, which its target audience will be able to relate to. Traveler is a young boy who feels isolated from the other members of his family. His brother is a star athlete at school. His brother also torments him at home, and Traveler feels like his parents don't notice. He feels invisible. But after he visits his grandfather in the hospital, his life begins to change and he makes his way to a new world.
There are some flashbacks and side scenes

Overall, this book is engaging with creative imagination and storytelling. Though the fantasy setting is psychology based, it's not so much about mental disorders, but about how a young boy is coming to his own while overcoming challenges, making difficult decisions and discovering a new world. A common theme in most children book, but written in a captivating way.
