Finding Claire Fletcher is truly a story of our times, and magnificently told, even in its brutality. It follows ten years in the life of a girl kidnapped off the streets on her way to school at the age of fifteen. We’ve all seen or read those news stories of kids who vanish without a trace. We wonder what happened to them, if they still live, and if so, how? We know the type of monsters who prey on these children, and we can only imagine what they do once they’ve captured their victims. This is...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is truly a magnificent story. Great read for anyone who likes suspense. This is one of those books that once you start reading you can't put it down. The characters are well-developed and the story line is wonderfully done.

This was not your typical crime thriller read, it was far better done than others I have read, and far more laden with emotional impact that heightens and increases the tension, as it also leads the reader into truly horrific imagery. A difficult book to read without wholly immersing yourself in the story, and actually having a visceral reaction to the acts recounted, I had to put this book down often to regroup and regain some perspective, yet it kept calling me back to read more and immerse my...more

This book starts out like one of those haunting TV show I used to watch as a kid. A down on his luck detective meets a mysterious young woman in a bar. They have an instant connection but when he wakes up the next morning she is gone and all she left is an address. But when he goes to the address he finds out the women he met the night before was kidnapped 10 years ago and is presumed dead. This leads us to the story of Claire’s kidnapping and the horrors she has endured as well as Connor’s sear...more

Abducted at the mere age of fifteen, Claire Fletcher has endured a life of torment and pain. From the moment, she opened her eyes that fateful day so long ago, she's lived a nightmare from which she may never wake. She's fought to retain her sanity every day since, holding out a hope that someone will come to her rescue. Granted, she knows it's wishful thinking, but it's kept her alive thus far.

A chance meeting with Detective Connor Parks soon sets a chain reaction of events into motion. Claire...more

I spent pretty much the whole day reading this outstanding novel. From the first page the suspense grips the reader, not allowing a moment's peace of mind until the end.

Ten years after she is taken, Claire Fletcher is still "with" her abductor, emotionally unable to take advantage of the opportunities offered her to escape. One could be angry with her for this, and indeed Claire herself questions her actions, but when one understands why abused women do not leave their husbands or boyfriends, i...more

I have rarely read a novel where, within the last 100 or so pages, I found that I could not put the book down. This though was one of those rare exceptions. In reading this book, I found that all the attributes of an excellent novel were presented in astounding fashion and all from a newly, first-published author. The chapters are small, though concise enough that the casual reader can chew through them at leisure. This will be a non-issue though, because the plot line of the story, without tryi...more

Lisa Regan's debut novel is a heart-rending, gut wrenching tale of a fifteen-year-old-girl torn from her family by a mentally-warped abductor. At once a psychological thriller and a police procedural, it also manages to scale the heights of literary novel-hood as it cuts between past and present, first-person and third person, making us share the painful experience of the victim and conveying the critical events outside during her ten years of captivity.

Regan achieves the near-impossible, by not...more

Finding Claire Fletcher grabbed me from the very beginning. It is an incredible journey through the life of a young woman who was abducted and held by her captor for ten years. This is fiction but was so well done that I really thought I was reading a true story. It is not always an easy read but it is a very compelling one.
At the age of 15 Claire is abducted off the street. For ten years she lives with her abuser. For a good part of that time he keeps her locked up and abuses her in ways that...more

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

This book was extremely compelling. Every time I got used to what was happening, the story shifted in a different direction. Fast paced and entertaining in a gut-wrenching "this is the worst and best of humanity" sort of way. Very realistic in terms of police procedures and the slow pace of progress which was frustrating to read, but in a good, realistic way.

I liked the switch form 3rd to 1st, very effective. I'm not sure I would have under...more

I thought this was simply brilliant!
Little nuggets of the truth are slowly revealed until you reach the nightmarish conclusion!
I started reading this novel before Amanda Berry and two other women escaped after enduring 10yrs of abduction. And what is this story about?, a woman was abducted and has been missing for 10yrs!
Even though this is a work of fiction, it gave me some insight into how they are trapped both psychologically and physically.
This was a heartbreaking story with moments of happ...more

3.5/5 (Rounding down because there are a huge amount of positive reviews already)

The opening and premises are indeed, in short, amazing. A down on his luck detective. A mysterious meeting at a bar. It was all so secretive, seductive, smoky and noir, but sweeter and more romantic rather than the traditional femme fatale.

The Amazon preview had been enough to convince me that I really wanted to read this book. And at $1, I...more

I read this as part of the We Read Indie Books RG2E! group read for February-March 2013.

This is the story of a fifteen-year-old who is kidnapped by a pedophile and held captive for seven years. The sex offender thinks she is younger because of her build and looks, and is disappointed to find out her true age. But there's something about Claire, whom he calls Lynne, that keeps him from killing her even when she becomes an adult.

And Claire, in true victim fashion, can't bring herself to leave him,...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is a great suspense thriller. I found I could not stop reading once I started. Claire Fletcher is kidnapped at age fifteen and even through all the pain and abuse she keeps pushing forward never giving up, but never going home either. The fear and torture the kidnapper installed in Claire by threatening her family , kept her within his grasp and will make your heart ache to reach out to her. What I found most interesting about the book was the mother’s resolved that her c...more

My god, where to start? this book is one of the best book i have read in such a long time, maybe the best. the quick action of the plot holds you captive until the end. LITERALLY you cant put this book down until you finish it. the characters are so much developed and detailed emotionally from the heroes of the plot until the very least unimportant third characters. and the author is so good in blending raw emotions in thrills in sickening scenes. no other book can make u cry, jump off your seat...more

As a young girl Claire thought she had her life planned out. Little did she know that one fateful mistake would change the course of her life forever. At 15 Claire made the mistake of being a friendly, helpful girl and it cost her her freedom….she was abducted. Not only was she abducted but she was held prisoner for 10 years by the pedophile freak.

This book lets us see into the hell that became Claire’s life. Her capture abused her, raped her, starved her and killed because of her. Claire is no...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is an excellent debut novel. I normally read romance, so I wasn't sure how I would like this crime suspense, but I was pleasantly surprised. I fell in love with Claire and Connor from the start, and there was enough romantic elements to satisfy hopeless-romantic-me.

One thing I thought Regan did especially well was describing enough of Claire's abuse to paint a vivid picture without getting too graphic. She took us just far enough, then let our imagination take over. That...more

This was a fantastic book, one of my all time favorites. I couldn't put it down and felt sad when it ended. I will watch for other books by Lisa Regan.

I was fortunate to win this book on Goodreads First-Reads.

This was the May selection for the Goodreads group, Psychological Thrillers. I read it on my nooks. It was about another monster who preys on young girls, but there was a softening quality, so that it didn't just seem like sensationalism. The title character has a strength which allowed her to survive 10 years with this person. She encounters a police officer who also becomes enthralled with her. Knowing what she has experienced, it is somewhat hard to believe that he would be attracted to her....more

Lisa Regan's excellent writing in "Finding Claire Fletcher" is a true page turner. She touches on the grounds of child abduction and what it is like for these children and then how it is to be reunited with their families. Her characters are strong and believable and they will fill you with emotions that will rock you. The subject of the book is a little bit difficult to read, but totally well worth it. Highly recommended for all readers!

It has happened again, that book you get for review that becomes an instant favorite and reminds you why you accept review requests. If I could shout about this book from the roof tops at the passing planes, I would (although my neighbors might not appreciate it), and I doubt the people in the planes would hear me. Instead I want to share my experience with each and everyone one of you.

Read this book!

Yip it as simple as that. It was one hell of a thrill ride that took me through various emotions...more

After finishing Finding Claire Fletcher I needed some time to absorb the story. Why? Because it was written so well, so truthfully and so filled with raw human emotion I needed time before I could put into words just how amazing this book is. As an avid suspense reader I knew there would be plenty of it in this story, what I wasn’t expecting was how well a first time author spun this tale. We are all familiar with the high profile kidnapping cases like Adam Walsh, Jacob Wetterling and Jessyca Mu...more

A first-rate thriller that draws you completely into the tortuous existence led by Claire, held captive by a deranged criminal for ten years. This was a completely absorbing read, told so well by Regan that I felt I was right there watching the action unfold. It is brutal at times, but that would be the reality of such a situation. The book drew me in not only from the premise in the blurb, but the conundrum this presents; if Claire has enough freedom to meet Connor in a bar and go home with him...more

Excellent! I've had trouble finding the words to describe how great this book is. That's why it's taken me over a week to write this review.
Not to sound cliché but this book had me from hello. The first chapter is short, but extremely powerful and you won’t be able to put it down after reading that brief look into Claire’s life. I was drawn in completely and had trouble concentrating on anything else while reading it.
Claire’s story will break your heart, but her perseverance and determination...more

This was a book I was hooked from the very begining! Wow, Claire is an amazing woman! What she went through at the hands of that sicko! This was a wonderful written book that I turned page after page to find out what was going to happen! I went through all kinds of emotions because it truely makes you think about all missing child out there! Lisa Regan has away of writing that makes you feel like you are in the story and it seem! I can't wait to read more by Ms. Regan!

Riveting. Suspenseful. Gut-wrenching. Heartbreaking.

And I could NOT put this book down. If there was an opportunity to give a book more than 5 stars, this surely rates more.

Being abducted and held by a sexual deviant, Claire is held a virtual and emotional prisoner by her captor. The author creates in her character a realistic personality with an undiminished tenacity to survive despite her circumstances.

The author so expertly weaves this story that at times I had to remember this was a ficti...more
