BRILLIANT! Had me hooked from the beginning. Just could not put it down. This book is an incredible journey through the life of a young woman who was abducted and held by her captor for ten years. It is not always an easy read (some parts are definitely harrowing and emotional) but it is a very compelling one. Excellent story and characters - one that depicts the darker side of the protagonists psyche, and the effect on the human mind.

A.haunting psychological suspense. A MUST read.

Finding Claire Fletcher is truly a story of our times, and magnificently told, even in its brutality. It follows ten years in the life of a girl kidnapped off the streets on her way to school at the age of fifteen. We’ve all seen or read those news stories of kids who vanish without a trace. We wonder what happened to them, if they still live, and if so, how? We know the type of monsters who prey on these children, and we can only imagine what they do once they’ve captured their victims. This is...more

Lisa Regan's debut novel is a heart-rending, gut wrenching tale of a fifteen-year-old-girl torn from her family by a mentally-warped abductor. At once a psychological thriller and a police procedural, it also manages to scale the heights of literary novel-hood as it cuts between past and present, first-person and third person, making us share the painful experience of the victim and conveying the critical events outside during her ten years of captivity.

Regan achieves the near-impossible, by not...more

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.

This book was extremely compelling. Every time I got used to what was happening, the story shifted in a different direction. Fast paced and entertaining in a gut-wrenching "this is the worst and best of humanity" sort of way. Very realistic in terms of police procedures and the slow pace of progress which was frustrating to read, but in a good, realistic way.

I liked the switch form 3rd to 1st, very effective. I'm not sure I would have under...more

This book starts out like one of those haunting TV show I used to watch as a kid. A down on his luck detective meets a mysterious young woman in a bar. They have an instant connection but when he wakes up the next morning she is gone and all she left is an address. But when he goes to the address he finds out the women he met the night before was kidnapped 10 years ago and is presumed dead. This leads us to the story of Claire’s kidnapping and the horrors she has endured as well as Connor’s sear...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is a brutal, heart wrenching story of a girl kidnapped at age 15 and subjected to emotional, mental, and physical torture for 10 years. Through it all, Claire struggles to keep hold of hope, her memories of her life before her capture, and herself. Even when she feels helpless and despairing, she never stops fighting.

Honestly, Finding Claire Fletcher was truly a joy to read from the first page to the last. It was...awesome, amazing, thrilling, exciting, and many other des...more

It was hard to believe this is Lisa Regan's debut novel while I was reading it. Finding Claire Fletcher is a fantastic suspense story that excels not only because it is a page-turner, but also because it has such rich and compelling characters. I felt connected to both Claire and Connor right from the start, and I wanted to get to know them better. That is always the key to a strong novel for me.

It's very hard to put this book down once you start reading. While parts of the story are simply hor...more

My god, where to start? this book is one of the best book i have read in such a long time, maybe the best. the quick action of the plot holds you captive until the end. LITERALLY you cant put this book down until you finish it. the characters are so much developed and detailed emotionally from the heroes of the plot until the very least unimportant third characters. and the author is so good in blending raw emotions in thrills in sickening scenes. no other book can make u cry, jump off your seat...more

For fans of nice, fluffy, and romantic books such as Abducted and The Breakaway, allow this book to disabuse you of the notion that kidnapping is another means to matchmaking - it is brutal, damned, and should you fall victim to such schemes, chances are, you may not come back with a ring on your finger; even if you coming back alive, it is highly likely you'd come back changed forever.

This book was a wake-up call for reminding me about the harsh realities of abduction. One doesn't have to think...more

Finding Claire Fletcher by Lisa Regan is a story that would be unbelievable if it were not so true, as we have learned from news stories in the past few years.
Claire Fletcher is fifteen years old when she is abducted on her way to school, and endures rape and mental and physical torture during the ten years she is held captive. She disappeared without a trace, and the police found only slim clues that led nowhere. Her father and sister believe she is dead, but her mother never gives up hope tha...more

A first-rate thriller that draws you completely into the tortuous existence led by Claire, held captive by a deranged criminal for ten years. This was a completely absorbing read, told so well by Regan that I felt I was right there watching the action unfold. It is brutal at times, but that would be the reality of such a situation. The book drew me in not only from the premise in the blurb, but the conundrum this presents; if Claire has enough freedom to meet Connor in a bar and go home with him...more

5 Emotionally Tortured Soul Stars

I am speechless. Debut novel? Really!?! What a first impression!
Finding Claire Fletcher is brilliant. It surely will leave such a mark on your heart.

This story has so much depth. It drowns your thoughts into darkness, brings sadness, and you feel depression set in. At this moment you are probably thinking . . . I will not pick up this book after reading that sentence. BUT TRUST ME , this story will change your perception of life and make you realize life is...more

Abducted at the mere age of fifteen, Claire Fletcher has endured a life of torment and pain. From the moment, she opened her eyes that fateful day so long ago, she's lived a nightmare from which she may never wake. She's fought to retain her sanity every day since, holding out a hope that someone will come to her rescue. Granted, she knows it's wishful thinking, but it's kept her alive thus far.

A chance meeting with Detective Connor Parks soon sets a chain reaction of events into motion. Claire...more

First of all, this is NOT a light read and it’s not the genre of book I usually read, but I am glad I listened to a friend’s suggestion.
This is the type of book that consumes you and brings out every emotion that you could possibly imagine. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating but not a lot. It’s also a book that transports you outside of your own safe little world and makes you think.
I’m not going to regurgitate the synopsis because you can read that in lots of places. I want to tell you about my feel...more

Excellent! I've had trouble finding the words to describe how great this book is. That's why it's taken me over a week to write this review.
Not to sound cliché but this book had me from hello. The first chapter is short, but extremely powerful and you won’t be able to put it down after reading that brief look into Claire’s life. I was drawn in completely and had trouble concentrating on anything else while reading it.
Claire’s story will break your heart, but her perseverance and determination...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is a hauntingly beautiful contrast——a tale that teeters between the strength of human spirit and the depths of its depravity.

Parts of this novel surged through my veins——the fluidity of Regan’s writing, the plausibility of the concept, and the credibility she lent her characters. I couldn’t stop turning pages. But it was the other parts, the glimpses of hope nestled between both heart wrenching POVs, that I clung to.

At times, I forgot I was reading. It would be three or f...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is an incredibly well written and intense debut novel. Though perhaps not a book for everyone, it is emotional and gripping. Lisa Regan does a fantastic job of taking the reader into Claire's dark, dirty, and destructive world. Even as we learn the back story we are propelled forward and the story maintains suspense.

I can't say anything more than what every review on goodreads has already said. It is emotionally taxing to read and impossible to put down

I spent pretty much the whole day reading this outstanding novel. From the first page the suspense grips the reader, not allowing a moment's peace of mind until the end.

Ten years after she is taken, Claire Fletcher is still "with" her abductor, emotionally unable to take advantage of the opportunities offered her to escape. One could be angry with her for this, and indeed Claire herself questions her actions, but when one understands why abused women do not leave their husbands or boyfriends, i...more

Finding Claire Fletcher was in my "TBR" list from a long time. And now that I have read it, all I can is "WOW". This book has all the elements that a "suspense" book should have. The plot is very interesting. The bad guy is very creepy and the heroine, Claire, is one heck of a mysterious lady.

The blurb says a lot about the story but still there's enough suspense to keep you on your toes. You'll see as you read the story. The plot is a twisted one and once you start reading, trust me you won't be...more

I have rarely read a novel where, within the last 100 or so pages, I found that I could not put the book down. This though was one of those rare exceptions. In reading this book, I found that all the attributes of an excellent novel were presented in astounding fashion and all from a newly, first-published author. The chapters are small, though concise enough that the casual reader can chew through them at leisure. This will be a non-issue though, because the plot line of the story, without tryi...more

After finishing Finding Claire Fletcher I needed some time to absorb the story. Why? Because it was written so well, so truthfully and so filled with raw human emotion I needed time before I could put into words just how amazing this book is. As an avid suspense reader I knew there would be plenty of it in this story, what I wasn’t expecting was how well a first time author spun this tale. We are all familiar with the high profile kidnapping cases like Adam Walsh, Jacob Wetterling and Jessyca Mu...more

Finding Claire Fletcher grabbed me from the very beginning. It is an incredible journey through the life of a young woman who was abducted and held by her captor for ten years. This is fiction but was so well done that I really thought I was reading a true story. It is not always an easy read but it is a very compelling one.
At the age of 15 Claire is abducted off the street. For ten years she lives with her abuser. For a good part of that time he keeps her locked up and abuses her in ways that...more

Riveting. Suspenseful. Gut-wrenching. Heartbreaking.

And I could NOT put this book down. If there was an opportunity to give a book more than 5 stars, this surely rates more.

Being abducted and held by a sexual deviant, Claire is held a virtual and emotional prisoner by her captor. The author creates in her character a realistic personality with an undiminished tenacity to survive despite her circumstances.

The author so expertly weaves this story that at times I had to remember this was a ficti...more

I thought this was simply brilliant!
Little nuggets of the truth are slowly revealed until you reach the nightmarish conclusion!
I started reading this novel before Amanda Berry and two other women escaped after enduring 10yrs of abduction. And what is this story about?, a woman was abducted and has been missing for 10yrs!
Even though this is a work of fiction, it gave me some insight into how they are trapped both psychologically and physically.
This was a heartbreaking story with moments of happ...more

Finding Claire Fletcher is a great suspense thriller. I found I could not stop reading once I started. Claire Fletcher is kidnapped at age fifteen and even through all the pain and abuse she keeps pushing forward never giving up, but never going home either. The fear and torture the kidnapper installed in Claire by threatening her family , kept her within his grasp and will make your heart ache to reach out to her. What I found most interesting about the book was the mother’s resolved that her c...more
