As you may know, I’ve started intermingling reading YA with adult books and this is of course one of the latter. Mostly, Not the Marrying Kind by Nicola Marsh is pure, unadulterated entertainment and a fun and easy read. I really enjoyed the story and the writing was good, the dialogue was superb and there were no cheesy lines, thank goodness which is something I ALWAYS look out for in an adult novel. Mostly, Not the Marrying Kind by Nicola Marsh is pure, unadulterated entertainment and a fun and easy read. I really enjoyed the story and the writing was good, the dialogue was superb and there were no cheesy lines, thank goodness which is something I ALWAYS look out for in an adult novel. My only slight bugbear as a wannabe copy editor is that the word “bloody” was used as a curse word in a couple of sentences which is obviously a Briticism. The term “Sort it out” was also used and again I think this something a Brit would say, rather than an American. This leads me to question whether the author or the editor was British as this novel is set in and around Las Vegas! Those are just little nitpicks though and they most certainly did not detract from the story.

I want to start by talking about Beck. Ahhh, Beck. I LOVE the name Beck and I blame Dawn Rae Miller (author of Larkstorm) for that). The Beck in THIS story was a man who came from the humblest of beginnings and clawed his way out of poverty to become a successful businessman. His past has spurred him on and he’s worked hard to get where he is only there’s one problem - other businesses/companies won’t take him seriously because he isn’t married. This storyline reminds me a little of the film Picture Perfect only this time, the guy is the lead character.

Poppy is the sassy, self assured and confident-without-being-arrogant woman in the story who is trying to save her grieving sister’s business by planning divorce parties. When her world collides with Beck’s, there’s a deal to be done but is it purely business? Beck and Poppy have finally met their match and will challenge each other’s wants and beliefs before the end of the book. Yes, you can sorta guess the ending but it’s the journey that’s the enjoyable part ;)

I thought Not the Marrying Kind was a fabulous book and I read it in one sitting. If you’re looking for an entertaining read, this comes highly recommended.(less)

Nicola Marsh has done it again - with less food this time, thankfully. It was all I could do not to gnaw my arm off with hunger while reading her previous novel, Busted in Bollywood. This novel is charming, sexy, and just plain HOT. I enjoyed every page of this romantic story! It wasn't on the schedule yet, but I'm so glad I pushed it up. :o)

After coming from a small town outside Los Vegas and raised by his Pa after his parents died, Beck Blackwood ‘s business, Blackwood Enterprise, has become one of the biggest construction companies in Los Vegas and he doesn’t want his hard work to go down the drain after the company reputation goes to pieces with the recent scandal involving a married site manager and a barely 18 year old intern on one his building sites. He has a deal that will save his company but the investors aren’t willing to sign with him because of the recent scandal. Stan Walkerville, unofficially the leader of the investors, gives him a piece of advice. If circumstances change, they will be willing to do business. In other words get married! But Beck has a problem internally too, his CFO and friend, Lou Robinson, wants him to throw a divorce party to get him out of the stupor he is in over his divorce and he wants to hire the Divorce Diva which Beck isn’t too happy about.

So what does Beck do but fly the Diva out to Los Vegas from LA after he gets a P.I. and does some blackmailing. He soon discovers that the impression he had in his mind is not what he sees in front of him and the same goes for Poppy. The Gerald Butler–lookalike picture doesn’t do Beck justice, in fact, he hotter than she thought. Standing and staring at each other and volleying with snark, this meeting is about to get amusing until the first bombshell hits Poppy like ton of bricks. But she needs him and he needs her—they’re two people both needing each other’s help. Will this partnership work?

Oh this isn’t the only thing Beck needs Poppy for and how Ms. Marsh brings about the second bombshell into the novel is funny and amusing:

“Can you help me find a wife?” He stood, managing to look imposing and appealing simultaneously.

Laughter bubbled in her throat but she swallowed it when he frowned.

He was serious.

Yep, completely loco.

“Sorry, I do parties. Try a dating service.”

“I need a wife fast.” His frown deepened and the pulse in his neck became noticeable.

“Why? You knocked up?” she deadpanned.

His eyes widened in surprise before he grinned.

“Anyone you can recommend?”

“For the position of wife?”

And that’s the beginning of their relationship, so to speak; Beck the tycoon has spoken and decides Poppy should be his wife. How though? Not without some serious good old blackmail with a twist. He will save her sister’s business if she saves his business reputation and the deal but will their hearts be broken in the process?

Ms. Marsh’s latest book is a refreshing take on the blackmail angle and marriages of convenience, that we have come to love in category romances. Yes, the typical blackmail is there but isn’t for the usual reason (aka the dirty secret) and the way Beck gets Poppy into marrying him is amusing and charming. How can a girl say no even if she thinks she the least romantic person she knows and completely anti-marriage? Oh, and Beck wants the marriage to be a real one.

If you are looking for snark of the good kind and great bantering, then this book is not to be missed. For fans of Ms. Marsh and fans of category romance, there something for everyone in this book. I give the book five stars, I was LOL and ROFL in my head the whole way through the story in a good way because of the descriptions and the answers characters gave to questions. Also the depth author gave these characters and their emotions was perfect. What hot blooded male wouldn’t want to take a hot woman to bed despite a relationship based on a business deal? Is this a sign of the things to come from Entangled and hopefully Ms Marsh too? I say it bring it on and hope to see more of this type of category romance. One word—EXCELLENT (5 Couples)(less)

This is what I would call good old romance. Thoroughly enjoyable, solid love story with easily likeable characters. Throw in a scoop of steam (not too much, the emphasis of the story is on what happens on the emotional side), a couple of twists and turns, and you've got yourself a very nice way of spending a couple of hours.

I liked. The first, but not the last, novel I've read from the author.

Nicola Marsh has always been a favorite Harlequin Presents author of mine and when I saw this title of hers from the summer, it looked like it would fit the bill perfectly. A millionaire, a marriage of convenience and Vegas equaled a light adult contemporary read that was a cute refresher.

Poppy Collins’ sister Sara is depressed and completely out of commission, thanks to her scum-sucking soon-to-be-ex-husband and in her absence, the bills for her party-planning business are piling up. In a last ditch attempt to save it, Poppy has created a secret persona as the Divorce Diva, hoping to capitalize on the trend of post-divorce parties. Discretion is a must – not only is the “D” word toxic to Sara right now, their Provo community wouldn’t handle the whole celebration of divorce very well and the main business would definitely suffer.

Meanwhile in Vegas, mega-millionaire Beck Blackwood is having his own professional crisis. A huge business deal is about to go into the toilet, all because he lacks a stable family image. Marriages are crumbling all over the place, but because he isn’t married, he’s going to lose a deal. Except…an employee of his wants a divorce party which leads him to a certain divorce party planner. Beck, being the smart businessman that he is, finds out that this party planner needs a lot of money and a lot of anonymity. Of course, the only answer is that Beck and Poppy have to get married and save each other and if a little blackmail is involved, well, Beck is friendly about it.

This is a very “in the moment” story. While Beck and Poppy both have interesting pasts and there are minor side stories running, they don’t really register. This is Beck and Poppy sparring, flirting, tangling, teasing and falling for each other and everything else is just the vehicle that gets them there.

The story wouldn’t have worked if both characters hadn’t had serious charisma and they did. Poppy and Beck had clever and sharp conversations and fun and steamy passion. Poppy was wonderful with her bright outlook, quirky humor and passionate nature. I loved that Marsh always had her wearing something that was poppy-colored – it could have been corny but she made it sexy by giving her things like sparkly stilettos. Beck was more of a sensitive guy in touch with his feelings than most Harlequin Alpha-hole [(tm) Dear Author] millionaires. He wasn’t beta by any stretch of the imagination, but he at least felt a little badly about blackmailing Poppy. Most of the time. If this were an old western, he’d be the hooker with a heart of gold. Buried under all that crusty exterior and snippy tongue of his, there’s a wounded guy who just wanted to be loved.

This wasn’t a book I walked away from marveling at its perfection. The ending, while sweetly romantic, felt a little rushed and the story was Poppy and Beck and not much else. What I did have were a couple of hours of total relaxation, some smiles, a little fanning myself and a renewed appreciation of Nicola Marsh. It was completely worth the $2.99.(less)

Poppy Collins is a party planner when she decides to start her own Divorce Diva Party Planner Company. Why not right because everyone has a party for everything so why not have a party for divorces. She can make a lot of money having divorce parties but there is a catch. She will have to keep it a secret from her sister because she is going through a rough divorce and she would not approve of this side business Poppy has created. Poppy decides she will do Divorce Divas but keep her name anonymous and not tell her sister until they are out of debt. She receives her first client but he is anything but normal because he is a billionaire and he has done a background check on Poppy and the business and decides he wants to meet her in person even thought it against the rules.

Poppy does not want to meet this billionaire but in order to save her sisters failing business she will have to meet him and get the account. Only when Poppy meets Beck Blackwood playboy billionaire she is thrown for a loop. Beck is so enthralled with Poppy and her witty snarky attitude that matches his. He soon hatches a plan that he hopes Poppy will go along with. He tells her he needs a wife and she needs the money to save her sisters business. So she can be his wife so he can get the contract and then he will pay her to keep her sisters business running so it is a win win proposition except that Poppy is like HELL NO at first but then Beck used to getting his way blackmails Poppy and she agrees. But at what cost? Will Beck and Poppy get everything they hope to? Will Poppy save her sisters business? Will Beck get the big contract? Will true love come into play? Will broken hearts be in the picture?

This book had a fun, modern feel to it and was short & I liked the characters. The heroine Poppy had sass and humour, her sister who practically raised her since her plastic surgeon parents were busy moving in uppity circles has been spiralling since her husband walked out , so to make sure her sister's party business doesn't go bust, she comes up with the Divorce Diva, but there is a catch it has to be anonymous since her sister would flip.

I just could not give it a five star. The book was good and the characters endearing but it just was missing something. Beck and Poppy both believe marriage is for chumps for different reasons. I simply fell in love with the heroine, Poppy, who is sassy, sexy and gives back as good as she gets. And of course, she is not looking for either love or marriage. Nicola Marsh always manages to dazzle me with her fantastic novels and this time around it was the same only far better ! Yes the brilliant author really blew me away this time.

Saying this was a predictable story would be stating the obvious. I don't think anyone reading this book would expect the ending to be any different. Not the Marrying Kind was a book I just loved and it was a story that was so cute and entertaining! Not the Marrying Kind had a very Sarah MacLean-y vibe about it and it was rocking.

Beck and Poppy had so much chemistry! There was smoking hot tension between the two of them and some hot hot scenes. I loved both Poppy and Beck. I like the book. Except that I couldn't bring myself picturing out Gerard Butler for Beck Blackwood, as the author described his look-alike, I quote her words, "It.Did.Not.Do.Justice." I switched with Rick Malambri instead. (That's what imagination is for!;p) Which also made the read worthwhile.;)

Not The Marrying Kind was my first read from this author. I would rate it a 3.5 and I would read more from Nicola Marsh. This book had an easy flow, and it went pretty quick. The H/h had great chemistry, two people who had issues with love and marriage from what they both lived threw, but my issue with this book was it was too fast for me. I actually had some trouble with this book. It's hard to pinpoint what exactly was my problem with it, but it was a little bit disappointing.

The relationship between the two main characters just didn't have the same "oooh" and "aaah" factor that some of the other romance novels I've read recently have had. *LE SIGH* Snarky and sassy with a whole heap of emotion that i ALMOST cried 3/4 through the story! EGADS! I'll write my proper review soon as its after midnight and i seriously need to sleep BUT i just wanted to say; Ms Marsh, i just LOVE your stories, you're an awesome writer AND you're a Melburnian... SCORE! I hope that this is the start of a beautiful relationship with Entangled Publishings' Indulgence line :)

this was a normal length book, but i feel like the characters were a bit underdeveloped. i had issues with poppy too. there were obvious solutions to her issues (financial and otherwise) yet she did not address them. additionally, the flip flopping from both characters gave me whiplash. sex! no sex! love! total dispair. . . the premise was good, but it just kind of missed the mark.

I didn't realize how quick of a read this book was, however, it was a fun, romantic story with likable characters. I enjoyed the story line but I think that even though I did like the characters, I wish the author would have developed them a little more, I wish I could have got to know them better if that makes any sense. But all in all a very cute story and a fun read to unwind to.

this book it's a 3 1/2 up to a 4 stars. the 3 first quarter of the book was good. describing their jobs and family. and also the reasons to their wedding for loyalty and credibility. But about 70% of the book I really started to enjoy it, emotions, love and Beck and Poppy couldn't thinking about each other. It was lovely that he left everything for her because she made him feel.

Uhhh.. Was this the entire book or just the clif notes?! It was like watching a movie preview where they show all the good parts... It was so very rushed the story had no depth , you didn't even have time to get invested in the characters before it was over. It had potentional, even though I feel like its the same story as the marraige bargin, which was a much better book....
