Chloe Diggins was excited to be going to Peru to help her archeologist father. Her dad was looking for the legendary Inca Disk while also teaching high-schoolers about archeology. The Inca Disk is a clue to find the Eternal Emperor, a guard of a fabulous treasure. When they find an ancient skeleton that goes missing the next day, Chloe’s dad is arrested for the crime (his trowel was found at the crime scene). The next day Chloe makes a discovery of her own; the Inca Disk! The problem is, someone...more
This is a First Reads giveaway. Chloe Diggins is the 12-year-old daughter of an archaeologist. When he is kidnapped and she makes the find of a lifetime the action starts rolling.
I entered the drawing thinking that my 9-year-old daughter might like this book. Now that I've read the book, I agree with my original assessment. I think that my daughter will have fun reading this. I also think that my 13-year-old son might like it as well. This is not a "girly" book. There is quite a bit of action a...more

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to have found this book. It seems like all preteen/teen entertainment involves one of three things:
1. Princesses (or female characters so self-absorbed that they might as well be princesses)
2. Kids who are wiseasses and have no respect for adults in their lives
3. Vampires
Chloe Diggins is no princess, and as far as I can tell, she's not interested in dating vampires. :)
Chloe is smart, warm, energetic and curious. She's learned quite a lot from her father,...more

This book should be on the shelf of every tween girl. It's not often that you find a strong female character like Chloe Diggins. She is smart, spirited, heroic, kind-hearted and adventurous. My 10-year-old daughter, who is a huge fan of Nancy Drew and Hermione Granger, connected with Chloe and has declared her one of her "favorite heroines of all time."

Picked up an autographed copy from the author (awesome director of education at our local history museum). Lexi just finished the prologue - we'll update rating soon!
This was a First Reads giveaway that I enjoyed very much. Though I think the beginning was a bogged down a bit with some unnecessary details the pace picks up quickly and the adventure carries you to the satisfying conclusion. Chloe Diggins is smart and resourceful. The book made me want to know more about Peruvian culture and the Incas. I will definitely recommend this book to lovers of adventure.
I started the book after putting the kids to bed and cleaning up. Four hours later, I found myself at the end of the book eagerly awaiting another Chloe Diggins adventure! What a perfect mix of mystery, suspense, humor, and heartfelt moments. Not only perfect for the pre-teen set but very entertaining for the "post-teen" set as well. In addition to the history-filled adventure, I loved Chloe's personal struggle regarding her mother's death & how everything came back to family (exactly what t...more
