This is the fascinating story of Myra Clark Gaines, whose legal battle to inherit her father's property in New Orleans (about 1/3 of New Orleans) lasted her entire lifetime. Although it is a novel, it is well-researched and quite a true account of her life. This is a novel written in 1946.
