"I am an architect. More significantly I am a female architect - born of an incredibly determined woman - with a journey to share." Clouse's Houses is a story woven with a yarn of architecture, but it is not about architecture. It is about nature and art, relationships and afflictions, and a little bit about dogs. But theses are just the stories that unfold to tell a deepe ...more

Carol Clouse, an architect, has written a lovely book, heart-felt and enjoyable to read. Each chapter, in this memoir, deals with important phases of her life, including work, relationships, and emotional growth.

The parts about her mother and father were wonderful. Her relationships with both played a huge part in her love of nature and her innate and nurtured creativity. Especially touching were descriptions about her mother: “Life with my mother was an eyes wide open adventure…she had an insat

I like to read stories of personal challenges and triumphs; get someone else’s perspective on things. It reminds me of the quote about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes. Having earlier read a small sample of Carol Clouse’s work, I was intrigued to read “Clouse’s Houses”. And I’m glad I did. It’s full of humor, creativity, heartfelt emotion, and thought provoking experiences, all wound around being an architect. Well-written, well put-together. There were many parts of the book that could ha ...more

Very inspiring book if you love to consider why we choose the choices we make in life. Carol takes us on the journey of her life and loves (from family to nature to art and architecture) with equal parts of humor and spirituality. Hard to put down as you find yourself saying "Yes, YES!" - very uplifting and leaves you with a sense of divine purpose. Just connect-the-dots in your own life ...

Clouse's Houses is such a wonderful and inspiring book. It was really comforting to be able to settle in and curl up with Carol's story. As I read through her book it truly felt more like a conversation with Ms. Clouse than reading a book.

She is so genuine when she discusses her family and the emotion radiates off of the pages. Her love and her respect for her mother is evident as she describes her mother's battle with polio which left her paralyzed, how she herself was her mother's "miracle ba

I was very excited when I won this book because I have a love for building houses and floor plans. I was even more excited when I skipped to the back of the book to read Carol Clouse's 'About the Author' section. The last line that is written about her says "The Spirit that moves through all things moves through us all, and Carol believes it shines most brightly through our creative ventures!" Nothing can be more true in life, this is exactly how I feel. I went in to this book thinking how Caro ...more

This book made me cry, it made me laugh, it inspired me, it energized me, it made me feel shameful of my lack of real life, and it made me cry some more. This writer has an amazing amount of courage to expose so much raw emotion of her own life. I thought this book would be more about her architectural journey, however it was not that at all. Well i guess it was, but It was just so much more than I one could expect. Her journey in life and self discovery was so relatable to me. Not because we ha ...more

This book is autobiographical but more so and more important this is a Spiritual journey encompassing handicaps, death, a relatives alcoholism, relationships, physical ailments and it goes on. It encompasses all these this but all of them lead to searching for and giving things over to a higher power that brings about change, beauty, and acceptance. A wonderfully written read. Highly recommend it.
