Seriously, guys. Ugly tears at the end. That LETTER!!! *wipes tears*

I want to give this book 5 stars but it would be purely based on my obsessiveness for HAPPILY EVER AFTER endings. I require angst in a good love story however the angst in this story is far different than the angst normally found in romance books which is why this story is so flipping good. Oh lord, I think I might have developed a couple of cavities after finishing this one, it was just soo sweet and, at times, sappy. So, did I enjoy it? Yes and no. First off, I will start with the positive:

1.) The idea behind the book. Boy falls in love with girl, they are high school sweethearts, she yearns to leave their small hometown and he wants to stay, boy and girl drift apart, a decade passes, boy and girl still think about each other, yadda yadda yadda. We all know where this is going. I...more Oh lord, I think I might have developed a couple of cavities after finishing this one, it was just soo sweet and, at times, sappy. So, did I enjoy it? Yes and no. First off, I will start with the positive:

1.) The idea behind the book. Boy falls in love with girl, they are high school sweethearts, she yearns to leave their small hometown and he wants to stay, boy and girl drift apart, a decade passes, boy and girl still think about each other, yadda yadda yadda. We all know where this is going. I think the story line was a good one and could have been outstanding, except for a few things that I will address momentarily.

2.) Will becomes a country singer in order to win back Julia. Okay, how plausible is it to just become a famous country singer just to get the girl? Not very, however, I thought it was a sweet idea and I thought that the lyrics that Will had written on several occasions throughout the book were very convincing and good for someone in the country music genre. That part of the story didnt feel forced for me at all.

3.) The idea that Will accepted Julia's need to "fly" and allowed her to go out in the world without him throwing g a big hissy fit. There are so many stories with hulking alpha male characters nowadays, it was refreshing to read about a sweet guy who loved her enough to know that he had to let her go.

The things that didn't work for me:
1.) The story was filled with telling and never showing. It was bad, however, I normally would have marked something like this as a DNF and moved on, but for some reason, I felt compelled to continue. The idea for the story was great, it could have been an awesome read but there were so many instances (the reason behind the couple's first breakup for one or the growing love between them in the beginning of the book) where we were flat out told how things were. The writer needed to put in those extra bits of details and explanations to make the story more credible. As it is, it is just a sweet story but, honestly, it has the feel of a highschool English project to it or something. It just needs more of everything.

2,) The characters were very one dimensional. Will is a sweet guy but was there more to him? No. There was potential here to explore his personality in regards to not wanting to leave Missouri or why he chose Julia to begin with. We as readers are never given enough details on any of the characters to truly get a good feeling for any of them.

All this being said, I rate it between a 2 and 3, which is still a pretty good rating for me just because I can see the potential behind it. I hope the author does a bit more expounding on her ideas for her next novel and give us something to sink our teeth into with the storyline and I will def give her next one another chance. (less)

Well, I didn't like this book as much as some people seemed to but it was good. It was super syrupy sweet with little to no drama at all. Totally YA without a drop of steam to be seen. Emotional I suppose, because really, who among us can't relate to at least SOME of this?! First love and the pain of moving forward and looking back with longing. The songs that Will wrote were genuinely beautiful and the ending total had me tearing up.

If you look up the word "love story" in the dictionary, this book should be under the definition for it. It is an absolutely beautiful story about undying love. Amazing.

I started reading this book at 6 pm pulled an all nighter bc I could not put it down. But before I got beyond 15% I started asking my book group buddies for a tad of info I didn't want to continue if it had a bad ending for Will. Any how I'm very happy I continue reading, Will was an exceptional young man and more amazing as an adult, what a beautiful love story so much angst but he would not give up on his butterfly, Jules got on my nerves a lot of the times but he made up for all her stupidity...more

This book was more of a 3 star for me until I got towards the end. Will's concert and thereafter bumped the stars up for me.
The end made me cry (very The Notebook feel).

I still hate Julia and her selfish ways. She doesn't deserve his love. I love Will and wish I had met him while I was in high school.

Okay so far I'm so fucking pissed off to Julia right now, honestly what kind of bullshit is she hiding for. Will already told her he loves her in so many ways, now she is not marrying Bradley, she's single and its too fucking obvious that she still inlove with Will. Why is she becoming more stupidier every single moment! I'm so mad at her right now seriously I just wanted to throw this damn book and just forget it.

I will be honest with you girls, the first 20% of the book, I wasn’t diggin’ it. I adored Will, the country boy who said the most romantic, sweetest, thoughtful things to Julia. He made me swoon from the things this high school boy was saying to his girlfriend. But Julia… well she wasn’t my favorite at first. I just felt like she didn’t have any feelings toward Will in return and just let him tag along with her. I didn’t like her character and was thinking to myself how I can read this entire book in her POV if I can’t stand her.

Then it changed… when Julia went off to college I actually started liking her, I mean really liking her. Yes she broke Will’s heart by leaving and giving up on their relationship but I respected her choice for doing what she wanted to do in life and not give it up for a boy, even if that boy is Will. I was able to see her true feelings for Will at this point and finally get she did love him too and wanted Will to fight for her but he didn’t. He just let her go… even when she starts dating Brady and he moves on himself (well sort of). The two over the years talk occasionally and hear things about each other through friends. Will starts to become famous as a country singer and Julia is now living in San Diego attending law school. I hated that her long distance relationship with Brady worked while her relationship with Will didn’t… but I don’t think she truly loved Brady; at least not like she did Will.

This book starts with Will and Julia at age 16 to ten years later when they are in their late 20’s. I sometimes had trouble following along about what year it was… sometimes the next scene would be the following day or week, other times it would be years later. I wish there was some type of time stamp on chapters so I could understand when in their life this scene is taking place. It changed so fast I couldn’t always keep up and felt lost.

What totally won me over making this book a 3 star review to a 4 star review was the ending. Oh my gosh…. The ending… the letter…. I don’t want to give it away but it made me think of The Notebook. My eyes starting getting watery just from the beautiful letter at the end of the book- totally worth the entire read just to read the letter! Will won me over from the very beginning and I adored him so much! There are times you get to read his music lyrics to songs he wrote for Julia, I loved that the author wrote songs for the book, they also were my favorite.

This is a sweet fairy tale romance debut novel Ms. Miller created. I cannot wait to read My Butterfly, Ms. Miller’s second book in this series in Will’s POV during their 10 years apart from each other. Since I really loved Will, reading it through his eyes will be a real treat for me.

A beautiful story about a love that surpasses time and obstacles. Julia and Will are one of my favorite fictional couples of all time. Their love is so wonderful it had me smiling almost the entire book.

And the ending. Gah, the ending! It was heartbreaking and gorgeous and amazing and I'm still thinking about it. This is a story that will stay with you and you'll definitely come back to it, just so you can revel in the lyrical words and their meaning.

aaaah this book. Its crazy. I cried and really cried my way through the end. I was hurting so much for the Male lead I wanted to climb inside the book and hug him. Well, Its still a happy ending kind of book so its not really depressing but it just took them awhile to get their act together. :)

I can't write a review for this ATM. Just read it! Jules will piss you off many times along the way. But Will, he's perfect and patient and oh just read this beautiful story!!

I do want to note that I'm from small town Missouri and I wanna say....this author rocks!!!! She nailed it about our country fun:)

Butterfly Weeds was a sweet and romantic story about lost love and never giving up. The book follows high school sweethearts Julia and Will as they navigate dating while being apart and finding their place in this world. I loved the story behind what a butterfly weed is. This is one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. I just finished this book, with tears rolling down my face. You will not find "steamy" love scenes in this book. What you will find is a true love story that lasts the test of time.

This book was frustrating for me. The beginning of the book starts out in present day, but instantly jumps back to Julia and Will in high school. What proceeds is the story of their love throughout the next decade. The ups and downs and heartbreaks that come along with life.

This was a quick read that I found myself able to finish in one sitting. I did find myself rushing through some of the chapters though, hoping to get to the "good" part. While I found it interesting that the book jumped through periods of their lives over the 10 years, I felt like I didn't get enough of Will throughout the years, which left me slightly...bitter. I didn't feel like I ever was able to grab on and enjoy the relationships (Will/Julia, Julia/Rachel, Julie/Brady) throughout the book because it kept jumping forward. Just when you thought things were changing, it would jump another year forward and you were like, 'Seriously?!".

I will say that the writing was done beautifully, I found myself highlighting several quotes amazing quotes throughout the chapters and Will definitely had a way with his words. :)

"Happiness is like a butterfly, you know? The more you chase it, the more it will elude you, but if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit on your shoulder." - Will

Definitely a 3 to 3.5 star for me. I wish we would have gotten more at the ending. I wish the last 15% would have been more (I don't want to give too much away). Plus the last chapter KILLED me. It reminded me of a certain Nicolas Sparks movie that I most certainly skip the ending, every. single. time.

If you are looking for a well written, slightly angsty, quick read, this is should definitely be on your TBR list.

This book touched me in so many ways that I am having such difficulty finding the words to explain and do the book justice. I was so enthralled by the story of Will Stephens and Julia Lang. The way the author told their story and developed their relationship - the ups and the downs - took me to heights of panic, tears, heartbreak, and joy. My tears were not pretty. They were the face twisting, nose dripping, loud, yet silent tears of all encompassing emotion. I was taken back to a time when life was simple, fun, and forgiving; only to grow into adulthood when life was more complicated and priorities shifted. I felt as if I was living Julia's life....I wanted to live Julia's life and be forever 16.

The feelings between Will and Julia are akin to that of Romeo and Juliette. They have that intense type of forever love with the ability to conquer the world, but the world isn't what their love must defeat; the stresses of life are what threaten their relationship and happiness. This story is told in Julia's point of view, but Will's thoughts are clearly made known with regard to his feelings for Julia. The dialogue between the two of them is very strong and beautiful. Laura Miller managed to put Will's and Julia's heart and soul on display throughout the pages of this book through her lyrical words. Julia is the intelligent realist who sets high goals in life and makes her course to accomplish them, yet her decisions in life prove risky to her happiness. Will is also a goal setter of sorts and a dreamer, but he only has one goal in life. His patience and faith prove to be his strengths in meeting that goal. Julia is intelligent, yet Will is the wise one. Together they are beautiful, complementary of each other, and complete.

I only wish I could have written my review immediately after finishing the book to really convey my feelings, but I was so lost in their story, I couldn't find the words...which is still proving difficult. I was so captivated and enthralled by it all. Laura Miller has written a debut novel that will take you on a journey through the trials and adversities of first love and will touch the very essence of your heart. Butterfly Weeds will inspire and captivate your soul as you forge through the pains and triumphs of all that is Julia and Will. The ending was not at all what I expected, yet it was perfect and lovely. I give this book 5 stars and highly recommend it those who enjoy a well written and very satisfying novel. I look forward to many more books from Laura Miller in the future.(less)

This is one of those love stories that makes you feel like you know them personally. I loved this book, it had a believable, sweet love story that even days after finishing I keep thinking back to.

“Perfect love was that kind of love that made no sense but made everything else make sense somehow. It was raw and unscripted, turbulent and slightly unpredictable. I remembered how it had made me feel. I remembered that at the same time that I had had perfect love. I had also had a belief in happily ever after.”

Julia and Will have known one another since they were just kids. Once they become teenagers, Will begins to intensely pursue Julia. When Julia finally agrees, their love story starts. They fall madly in love, but Julia has dreams and aspirations that eventually carry her out of their small town, leaving Will behind. Soon after leaving, she just isn't sure how to make their relationship work. So, the next decade, they spend their lives apart but never fully leaving one another. Their paths keep crossing, keeping the feelings alive. For Will, his feelings never dimmed or faltered. As for Julia, her feelings get clouded by the pursuit of her career and she seems to become convinced that this is more important than anything else.

“I believe that there is a perfect someone for everyone, and I know that you still believe that too. There is a perfect someone, even if the road to that someone isn't at all perfect.”

I truly did like and connect with Julia, but she also made me so mad, especially when it came to Will. I just couldn't understand some of her decisions. Will was absolute perfection. He was so in love with Julia and made it known.

Along the way, Will became a musician. It was through his beautiful songs that I couldn't contain my emotions. He wrote a couple of songs for Julia that were so touching. I am still baffled at how she didn't just melt because I for sure did. His love for Julia was so clear and her constant indecisiveness hurt him so deeply. I connected so much with Will that I literally felt his pain at her very many wrong decisions. I just wanted to shake her and make her see the light. It was almost like she was afraid that she would lose herself if she gave all of heart to someone.

“See, I'm in love with the person you can never outrun. I'm in love with you, Julia.”

I loved so much about Butterfly Weeds. The story was so real and the characters were so relatable and most importantly, it had a very happy ending! I did have a little bit of a problem keeping up with the timing of the events. As the chapters changed, different amounts of time had passed and it would sometimes take me a while to figure out exactly how much time had passed at that point. Still, I completely loved Butterfly Weeds. It was such an emotional, lovely story that I definitely recommend! I can't wait for My Butterfly, Will's story. Clearly I loved him to pieces, so, of course, I will have to read his story :)(less)

MY HEART. MY SHEDDING TEARS. It's The Notebook all over again everyone knows how they went with that lol *cries*. Growing up reading his novels, this one really hit home and it really hit HARD. Oh, but this was so beautiful and I absolutely lost it so many times I've lost count - had no shame, no control, no nothin'! Coming from someone who's not an easy crier while reading her books.

Will and Julia are highschool sweethears and their love for eachother grows with each passing year. I am not sure what I was expecting from this book. What I got sure wasn't it. But that is not bad thing. This is nothing like the books I typically read. It was a very sweet and chaste love story. I did struggle a bit in the beginning but pushed through and am glad I did. Julia and Will's journey was touching. It reminds you of what it was like to be in love for the first time and how innocent that love can be.

I know that some reviewers haven't been thrilled by this book and in some ways, I can see their point...there's a lot more that could be said throughout the story, but I felt it was more than adequate and got the point across with a decent plot.

This book will make you think about your first love and wonder about the what if's. I know it made me think back.

I love Will.
I wanted to slap Julia. Repeatedly.
This was an EPIC love story.

So if there was ever a time where I wanted to reach into a book and SLAP a character, it was while reading this one.
I wanted to shake Julia senseless. I wanted to scream at her and slap her repeatedly.

I loved how the butterfly weeds were woven into the story and the metaphor they provided (for both Will's love for Julia and their life journey)
