I had a one night stand with this book. Or more fitting, I had a 24-hour stand with this book. I started it on Friday evening and finished it on Saturday afternoon. And in between reading it, I reorganized my closet and my dresser, cleaned the bathroom, opened some windows to get some fresh air circulating (it was over 40 on Saturday—a virtual heat wave!) and put together a bag of old clothes to donate. I almost never finish books that fast, especially when I'm multi-tasking.

So all in all, this

Jack Audley has been many things in his life, from a soldier and at the moment a highwayman. So when he stops a carriage with two women inside, he thinks nothing of it, well expect stealing a kiss from one of the (and younger of the two) women, but nothing out of the norm for a rouge. Until one of the women claims him to be her grandson and the rightful Duke of Wyndham!
Grace Eversleigh has worked for the dowager Duchess of Wyndham for five years, a thankless job, until one night a highwayman s

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book because though I've really enjoyed the other JQ books I've read, and she's a very popular historical romance author, I'd read a lot of mixed reviews of this series. So I ended up putting off reading this one for a while because I wasn't sure I'd like it. But I actually enjoyed the book a lot. I can't say I loved it, but it was rather good and I'm looking forward to reading the Thomas's reciprocal story.

The Lost Duke of Wyndham is about just that

The first book in Julia Quinn's Two Dukes of Wyndham. I really enjoyed this one. One of my faves by Julia Quinn. It was neat having the internet available to search and view the paintings mentioned. Made me feel more into the conversation that they had. I absolutely LOVED the scene where Amelia and Grace were "cursing" while the Duchess slept. Anyway, I thought it was delightful and witty.

Well, definitely not what I expected. I really wanted to like this book because I'm a huge fan of this author. Seriously, I never thought it would be possible to find a book of hers which wasn't amazing. So, JQ, WTF?? I don't get it, seriously, what were you thinking?

The beginning was boring as hell. It took me a week to get past through the first 5 chapters. But what was worst, is the fact that the topic was so surreal that I just wanted to burn the book up, I mean, a highwayman who magically b

Por si fuer ...more

This is another good one from Julia Quinn. Grace Eversleigh was orphaned at seventeen and rescued from her cousin's clutches by the dowager Duchess of Wyndham, who hired her as a companion. Grace has faithfully served the demanding, selfish dowager duchess for five years when they are accosted by a highwayman one night. Jack Audley, former solder turned highwayman, finds his life becoming complicated after he detains the coach of the dowager Duchess of Wyndham. The dowager duchess is convinced t ...more

I wish I could give some books more than 5 stars. High up on that list we be quite a few books by Kate Morton, Jane Austen, Susanna Kearsley, and Julia Quinn. These are my all-time favorite authors and they never seem to disappoint me. This book is no exception. It was exactly what I needed while I've not been feeling well. It made me smile, laugh, and just generally made me happy. I can't tell you how many times I've said that JQ writes some of the best characters! Jack Audley is one of them. I ...more

First of all, forgive me beautiful people in the photo, but I am so not a fan of this cover art - it absolutely does not do this book justice! I think we all judge a book by its cover every now and again, and if I had in this situation, I never would have read this lovely love story.

This is my first foray into this genre and I was really impressed with this book. I loved the character of Jack, I'm pretty sure he is the most charming man who ever lived, the kind of guy every girl would swoon ove

Solid romantic drama about a ducal family whose situation is upended by a highwayman who turns out to be the true heir to the title. Not quite as screwball as Michele Jaffe or Eloisa James's romantic comedy elements, but the banter is entertaining and there's a refreshing abandonment of pretense in the way the main characters comport themselves. (And Colbert fans will note the "truthiness" scene with an extra touch of delight.) Made a cross-country flight that much more entertaining.

This was a boring book. I read the second book in this series first and Mr. Cavendish, I Presume was much more interesting and enjoyable.

Here we have Grace, a companion to the dowager duchess, the poor 2 dukes' grandmother. Jack, a highwayman, holds up Grace and the dowagers coach, but the dowager recognizes Jack as being a Cavendish. She then kidnaps him and forces him to stay to prove that he is the actual duke, being that his late father was the elder brother to Thomas' father.

Recommends it for: no-one until Quinn starts getting it right
Julia Quinn's books are fun but although they are obviously not meant to be serious, they would benefit from some research. Her books are currently littered with irritating inconsistencies, anachronisms and mistakes. Her characters are supposed to be English "people of quality" but speak unmistakably American English. The heroine will ask the hero whether his curricle is "out back". She will look "out the window", not "out OF the window". She will "fix" breakfast instead of make it - English peo ...more

Geez, well, unlike other grudging, grumbly readers, I loved this. And I don't think it demonstrates that JQ has lost her mojo but rediscovered it. I will admit I really enjoyed half the Bridgerton stories tremendously, the other half not so much. (Favorites: Viscount Who Loved Me, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, if that helps place me in the spectrum of her fan base.) Here, I found Jack utterly delicious, his humor sly, his commentary wickedly accurate. Grace, the heroine, was a capable, intelligent, ...more

For me, this was a very entertaining read. Grace was the proverbial long-suffering companion who knew her place and never expected more than that. I felt so bad for both Jack and Thomas. I didn't want to see Jack forced into something he obviously didn't want and hadn't been prepared for. I also hated to see Thomas lose everything that had been his for his entire life. I'll be looking forward to his story in Mr. Cavendish, I Presume.

Goody, goody, goody. Julie Quinn is an author who hooked me from the first book of hers that I read. It was “Minx” and I picked it up at a used bookstore, read it that night, and went back the next day to get the rest of her books available. I should state here that I go to used bookstores to find new authors. Once I do, I spend my hard-earned dollars to pay for their hard work. I figure that’s only fair plus I want their publishers to know w

In the words of Mrs. Broadmouse, I do love a good love story. And Julia Quinn delivers romance beautifully. Looking back over my to read list, I realize that I have quite a number of her books listed there. But this wasn't one of them. However, when I came upon it in the book store, I just had to have it. Sexy highwaymen? Sign me up, I didn't need to read more of the blurb than that.

I think I may need to apologize or at least give warning to JQ fans for my lackluster review of this book because I know that, at least partially, my mood affected how I liked this book. However, that said, even if I was in the middle of an HR high, I don’t think I could have rated this book much higher since I really started to like the book only at the very tail end. A lot of emotional connection, sincerity, and chemistry were missing. I love laid-back witty characters (JQ’s beloved Colin Brid ...more

I am so glad that Julia Quinn has gotten back her groove. I didn't like the Cheever book so I wasn't too excited to read this one.

I was pleasantly surprised. It was a simple, light story with Quinn's trademark humour. I really want to gush on how witty and clever the dialogue is because it showed the growing relationship between the two protagonists better than any scenes filled with action and what not. There were no silly misunderstandings and no drama involved in declaring their feelings (th

Julia Quinn favori yazarlarımdandır. Fuarda çıkacağını öğrendiğimden beri heyecanlıydım, fuarda da koşturdum zaten Epsilon'a.

#1 The Two Dukes of Wyndham - Historical Romance

Very enjoyable! Grace is the companion to the elderly dowager duchess and must assist in the crochety old woman's incessant demands. On returning from a social function, their carriage is stopped by a highwayway who *gasp* robs them!

Jack, the witty thief, former soldier and rogue has the tables turned on him when he is recognized as a long-lost member of the Wyndham family -- and may even be the rightful Duke.

Very well written. The dutchess is a ch

So, people on Amazon.com hated this book, citing it as Quinn's worst yet. And here I am thinking it is much better than many of her other recent works. For one, the heroine was not a simpering ninny. Also, the hero was seriously flawed and not a perfect man, as many historical romance novels usually present the male character. The other thing I liked about him was the fact that his flaws were not predictable - you thought they were (the "I'm not worthy!" sentiment) and then bam! You learn there' ...more

I like Julia Quinn. She's not breaking any barriers or anything, but if I want a sweet Regency-style romance with gentlemanly men and slightly fiesty women, I know she won't disappoint.

This one only gets three stars because the whole thing felt a little thin. I've read a couple of the books in her Bridgerton series lately, and those were much richer in story. But the love story was cute, so what the heck.

Another Julia Quinn that satisfied me on some levels, but on the whole left me with an overall sense of want. I loved Jack, and Grace wasn't so bad, but the emotional upheaval and torment throughout the story was belied by the sudden and simplistic sappy ending. There was tons of build up and tension that was merely brushed aside in a few pages, and wham, there's our Happily Ever After.

I just mentioned in my last review of a JQ book (On the Way to the Wedding) that I hadn't found me a copy of this one yet, and it was the only JQ I'd never read, and then the other day, I find it at Goodwill. I was a little psyched to find it... ok, a lot. I read Mr. Cavendish, I Presume a few months ago, and I really, really liked the characters when I met them in that book. Especially Thomas. He was a great hero. So I was hoping I would like Jack just as much. Well, I did like Jack a lot, but ...more

In a nutshell: Jack Audley, highwayman, is kidnapped by the Dowager Duchess of Wyndham and her companion, Grace Eversleigh, when the old woman recognizes him as her grandson.

Characters: Grace is the long-suffering companion to an annoyingly proud, irritable old woman. She endeavors to be kind and understanding which sometimes translates into “doormat.” I wasn't very attached to her but I didn't hate her either. She seemed a little two-dimensional as compared to some of Ms Quinn's other heroines.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn loves to dispel the myth that smart women don't read (or write) romance, and in 2001 she did so in grand style, competing on the the game show The Weakest Link and walking away with the $79,000 jackpot.
