I don't like Tom. First of all, I want to know why any series where the couple gets together in the first book, has complication in the second? Can't they just have a bad guy they need to kill or a war to win and be done? Do they have to have the side problem of one of them (or both) having confused feelings about someone else? Why!?

Secondly, Maddy seems like a different person. Sure she seems stronger and more confident, but she doesn't seem like herself. And Jacks is definately a completely di...more

Disappointing. :/

I don't understand Maddy. She is getting ready to go to college, then has one vision, changes her mind and decides to become a Guardian. She has nobel ideas that she can somehow change the Protection for Pay system where only the rich can afford to be saved, yet she's not proactive about it. We never see her fighting for this cause she supposedly believes so strongly in. Great ideas are pointless without action.

While I enjoyed her and Jackson's developing relationship in book o...more

After slaving away at her uncle’s diner and studying hard to get the marks required to get into college, Maddy Montgomery is faced with a choice. Her dream school or the chance to train at the top-secret Guardian school. Going from the anonymous high school student to being the world’s number one It-Girl in less than a year, Maddy also has to navigate her new-found popularity and balance her new professional life with her relationship with the oh-so dreamy, Jackson Godspeed. Life will never be t...more

**I received a copy of this book via NetGalley but that did not influence the review**

I was pretty excited to start this book since I loved the first one, Immortal City. I’ll admit it, it didn’t hurt that I pictured Jacks as Alexander Skarsgård so I was totally in love.

The Story: Natural Born Angel picks up about 10 months after the first book left off. Maddy was about to go off to college, but an event changes those plans. She knows in her he...more

Natural Born Angel --

I was so excited to get this book, I loved the first book! This one was didn't meet my expectation, it was a little slow and predictable. Still a good read but it was missing the suspense that the first one had.

In this book Maddy did get stronger. She starts to believe in herself more, yeah there are some hard times when she is doubting herself but she has every reason too. There are people out there that don't like that she is half human half angel and all the attention she...more

This is the first time for me to review on a book for the reason of just expressing how much I view it. Don't read my review if you haven't read the book yet because some vague spoiler is included.

Review:

I can get how Maddy would suddenly feel on all the changes that happened to her and Jack too. Maddy is finally going to choose what she view as being a half angel and half human and being part of it. While Jack is blinded with his feelings too much that he has forgotten what he has. Changes can...more

Now this is much better written than the first installment. Someone finally did a fine job of proofreading it. The flow of the story is much better as well. And there's logic and unfolding of plots in the order of events.

Story-wise, it felt like a transitory book to me. The hero and heroin struggled with their own problems without involving the other and is slowly developing into the kind of persons which will be shown in the third book. As a consequence, the romance between Jacks and Maddy (tha...more

I'm so glad that I received an ARC of Natural Born Angel because I loved Immortal City. Almost immediately after finishing Immortal City, I started reading Natural Born Angel. Natural Born Angel introduces tons of new obstacles to Maddy and Jackson's lives. Maddy has to deal with the pressure of being half-Angel and dealing with the fact that Jackson may never fly again.

I loved how the Immortal City books tell the story of Angels in such a wildly original manner. The Imm...more

Argggghhh!!!! This is probably the one main reason I hate reading books before they come out because when you finish it, you have to wait longer for the next book to come out. This book made just think how I wish I waited.

This book continues down the road a little where the main character Maddy is about to go to college but she has the difficult decision of opting out and becoming a guardian just like her boyfriend Jackson. I kind of new what her decision was going to be but I didn't know how i...more

Mysterious and compelling, Natural Born Angel is a fantastically written sequel to the first book in the Immortal City series by Scott Speer. Filled with suspense and intrigue, it is a fast read that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. It's the perfect blend of reality and paranormal aspects, written in such an original way that will definitely capture your attention. Speer writes his characters in such a realistic way that they are easy to connect with. They experience wonderful grow...more

This is the second book in the Immortal City series. I won this book and it sounded interesting so I immediately bought the first one to read. I'm so glad I did! The first book ended with a cliff hanger so I was excited to drive right into the second book. Maddy, the main character, is strong. She is famous and in the spot light, but she fights to keep her life normal. She craves an ordinary life. When Maddy is offered the chance to be a guardian, it's not an easy decision. In the first book, Ma...more

My name is Maddy Montgomery. I'm sorry I'm Maddy Godright. Let me try it again. Third time's always the charm. My name is Maddy Montgomery Godright. Right now my life is a little bit crazy. Not only am I Jackson Godspeed's girlfriend but my Uncle told me some life changing news. It appears I am half angel. No need to freak out or anything. If I'm half angel shouldn't my wings be coming in pretty soon? Or is that up in the air as well?

It seems that I have been reading a lot of books that are more of Filler and Build-Up books lately than normal. Natural Born Angel does continue on from the first book, Immortal City, and it does have a couple good action and important type of stuff happening in it. But it just seemed to be missing that "umph" you used to get in books. I still enjoyed this second installment, but it was a little difficult to get through at times.

Love the storyline, hate the ending. I mean come on a romance and plot cliffhanger? That's just messed up. And Jacks' sudden change in behavior. I don't like it, not one bit. What was wrong with Maddie and Jacks being happy? I hate the sudden shift in romance, but what can I say, my interest in this plot is just too much for me to walk away. It's an awesome idea, being played out in a fantastic way. I don't normally like books written by male authors, well at least not books with a lot of romanc...more

ANNOUNCEMENT: The much-anticipated angel novel of the decade has ARRIVED! Jackson Godspeed's 'THE SHOE IS ON THE OTHER FOOT' now available worldwide!

It's so nice to know that you and your boyfriend can share near-death experiences and still have relationship issues. It keeps things comfortable, doesn't it? Knowing that he's such a hot, insecure egotistical jackass who needs a good bitch slap mess. And that when you need him to be there for you the most...he bails.

Just when Maddy Montgomery is beginning to adjust to being half angel, she is given the opportunity to train to be a Guardian. Putting aside her college plans, Maddy starts training and enters the glitzy, backstabbing world of her fellow Guardians. Her relationship with Jackson is taking almost as much effort as learning to fly, however. Jackson’s injured wing keeps him grounded and Maddy’s success seems to be driving them further and further apart. This installment in the series had more angst...more

You know I had to stop a few times while reading this book because well it was just plain boring at parts.

Just not that entertaining. Like half-way through I decided that I was going to just give it two stars and keep reading because I wanted to finish it.
Just get it over with. Out of the way.

Then I met Tom. I like Tom.
I like Tom A LOT
Jacks had his moments though. Very few and very very small but you know he had them not like in the first book where he gained countless brownie points from me.

Natural Born Angel is the second book next to Immortal City.

Change were everywhere. Maddy started working her way into being a Guardian Angel. Every one in the training were keeping an eye on her, monitoring hier improvements and judging her actions. They were still together, Jacks and Mads, but something were keeping them apart. Jackson's damaged wings were getting in his nerves especially not being in the limelight. And now it feels like Maddy took the spot from him. I just felt sad that not...more

I'm not sure how i feel about this book. I really liked the first one but this one....i'm a bit disappointed with. SPOILERS AHEAD:

First of, Tom....yeah. He hates angels and now is 'in love' with a 1/2 angel. Yeah not sure i believe that.

Maddy, man i was disappointed in where her character was taken. Why is she choosing between Tom and Jacks? She barely knows Tom and supposedly she loves Jacks.

Jacks, i hated that he wasn't really apart of this book. And i really hate the way Maddy and him drift...more

I hesitated for a long time between 3 and 4 stars but the last hundred or so pages saved the story so I ended up with 4 stars. I absolutely loved the first book, Immortal City, so my hopes were really high with the second book too. BUT...at first I was totally lost. I couldn't get a good grip of the story and at parts I actually was quite ready to put the book down and stop reading. However, stubborn as I am, I kept reading and the more I read more I liked it. So don't give up! It's totally wort...more

really a 3.5

MY THOUGHTS
REALLY LIKED IT - BOARDING ON LOVE

Maddy is set to go to Northwestern University and is all packed when she has second thoughts after an event (spoiler!) and decides to stay and become a Guardian. Contacting Jacks to help her through the rough spots, he becomes moody and withdrawn as she becomes a star. Of course, we are introduced to a new mean girl, Emily, a Downunder mega-angel-in-training as well, since Vivian now has a new boy un...more

I love the cover! Book 2!
Erin
An exciting book about a girl who is half human and half angel. This is the second book in the Immortal City series. After going back and forth, Maddy decides to join the Angels, instead of going to college, and works to become a Guardian. Even though Maddy doesn't agree with how the Angels are running things, she believes that from the inside, she could change things to make them better. When there is a war between humankind and the angels, will Maddy stay with her Angel boyfriend, Jackson, or...more

This book was a great second installment to the immortal city series! The characters remain believable, and overall are well developed. It is easy to see how maddy is dealing with her life choices! Scott manages to make you hate the bad characters like Emily, but love and feel bad for others like Jacks- and his poor wings. Overall, another action packed page tuner! It was hard to put it down.

My only criticism was the ending which I felt was almost too much of a cliffhanger. The action built up t...more

Now that Maddy knows she is half-angel she decides to train as a Guardian and embrace the lifestyle as a celebrity. Meanwhile, Jacks is going through treatments and experimental surgeries to fix his wings that were almost severed in the first book. As the political atmosphere heats up with the upcoming election, humans and angels are splitting into groups with opposing viewpoints. Can Maddy use her new fame to make the angels see that the Protection for Pay system is corrupt before it is too lat...more
