The old adage "don't judge a book by it's cover" is a good example of how I feel about this book. Not the cover literally but the characters underneath, they are rich and funny and full of everything you would expect and more of mythical creatures. Like any person you just meet it takes time to get to know them and it took me a little longer than usual to really get a feel for who they were. I sat down to read Sheri Fredricks’s book, Remedy Maker, recently and was floored. The concept that Ms. Fredricks’s has come up with is one that I have not run across yet, and let me tell you originality goes a long way in capturing my attention.
From the very beginning I was intrigued by Rhycious, the centaur man who is suffering from PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, who while physically strong has a softer side, which is usually brought out by his patients. He is THE Remedy Maker, or...more I sat down to read Sheri Fredricks’s book, Remedy Maker, recently and was floored. The concept that Ms. Fredricks’s has come up with is one that I have not run across yet, and let me tell you originality goes a long way in capturing my attention.
From the very beginning I was intrigued by Rhycious, the centaur man who is suffering from PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, who while physically strong has a softer side, which is usually brought out by his patients. He is THE Remedy Maker, or essentially a doctor, to his people, the centaurs. This portrayal of centaurs was new and invigorating, as they switch back and forth between human form and true centaur form daily, which like I said is a new twist for me. I loved it, as Rhycious has to excuse himself periodically to make the change.
While Rhycious wrestles his demons that are a result of a war with the Wood Nymphs, we meet Patience, a relatively young Wood Nymph who has been injured and brought to Rhycious. While he struggles to deal with his issues, his healer side refuses to ignore that she needs treatment. Rhycious eventually moves past his anger with her kind, and begins to fall in love with wise-cracking Wood Nymph. Together, they are drawn into a web of lies and corruption that threatens to rip their world apart. Someone is conspiring to kill the centaur queen and it is up to Rhycious and Patience to uncover the plot and its participants before war again comes to their land.
As they investigate the deception, they gradually fall in love with each other. Now let me tell you, their love burns hotter than a fire, and nearly made me blush. But you can tell that there is nothing sinister in what they feel for each other. I think we all know what it is to have a new lover, whether we married them or traipse through one after the other. Patience and Rhycious exhibit this total focus on each other throughout the tale, and come out stronger for all that they have faced. When I finally reached the end of the book, I found myself hoping that all would work out between them. The two main characters may capture your attention, but all of the characters in this book draw you further into the tale, and left me wondering what would happen to them in the end.
There are so many things that I could say about this novel, but if I did then there would be very little reason for anyone to go out and purchase it. I hope that I see more of Patience and Rhycious in subsequent novels, and cannot wait until Sheri’s next novel is released. She has gotten me hooked!

Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks is a contemporary fantasy/paranormal romance that I took on a lark. It turned out to be a delicious treat with some fairly serious underlying themes in the middle of its mythological creatures' Romeo and Juliet love story and backroom political machinations.

When Rhy's Amish friend, Samuel visits him carrying an unconscious woman, Rhy's life is forever changed. The woman is his enemy, a Wood Nymph, but as a healer he cannot turn her away. Of course, Rhy's identity cannot be hidden, by day he is a man, but at night he is a centaur. When his patient awakes he finds himself totally attracted to her and his hatred for her species suddenly isn't as strong as it was. Her name is Patience, and she is dying.

Patience is a mediator and a counselor, and she is on a mission to find her missing sister, Serenity, who has disappeared without a trace. She finds herself trusting Rhy and is just as attracted to him as he is to her. Two people who have been enemies for centuries suddenly find themselves wanting to be together. This is a romance that is forbidden, neither species will accept the other so how can they hope to have a life together? Then Rhy is called to treat the Queen who is suffering from stomach pain. The pain is being caused by the poison someone put into her tea. Rhy cures her and while he is at her bedside, she recruits him to find the traitors who are looking to overthrow her and cause her death.

Rhy is now on a journey to find the insurgents causing political unrest, a job he knows he is not suited to. Promising to help Patience find her sister, and with the help of his friend, Alek who is the Head Palace Guard, they set out to find the traitors and at the same time, Serenity.

There are many twists and turns in this story, Rhy and Patience are finding themselves getting closer and closer each fearing the future. There are traitors within the palace, but who are they and can they be caught before the Queen is killed and a new ruler takes charge. What repercussions will there be if the present political heads are destroyed? Can a Remedy Maker, a Wood Nymph and a Palace Guard bring down the insurgents?

This book has romance, sex, betrayal and a disturbing rape scene. I found the story interesting and the characters wonderful, especially Patience with her made up words and her spunky personality.

At least until the day an injured woman was brought to him. And after that, his world was literally turned upside down.

Patience was born after the great war so incurred no baggage or hate because of it. She was young and carefree and planned to live her days happy. What she did know was that her days were numbered. As a wood nympth, her health and lifespan was connected to that of her tree. So they had longevity, but were not immortal. But Patience was sick. Her health began to decline over the last few years, but she was determined to go out with a bang. That is until a group of hunters caught up with her and knocked her out. Imagine her surprise when she awakens in the house of a Centaur! And an incredibly hot one at that!!

The chemistry between the two is almost immediate, even though they are from different species. But there is a plot brewing to kill the queen and overthrow the peace agreement. I really enjoyed Rhys character. For being alive for so long, his condition was believable, as was the way he choose to live. After being surrounded by so much death, what better way to cleanse the soul than by healing others? Patience was the comedy break in the seriousness of the goings-on. She had a way of speaking that puzzled everyone and was funny. It actually is nice to read about a NEW type of paranormal entity. I can't wait to see where this story goes because the ending leaves you with so many things unfinished! There has to be a sequel! This was an excellent read and I highly recommend it!!(less)

I instantly fell in love with the characters and story line of this book, Rhy especially (hot, hot and HOT!) I also loved the concept it carried, the different races intermingling for the first time known in history and them falling in love without a second thought of the background of the evil prejudice that has clouded many’s vision for far too long. I found myself laughing, crying and holding my breath in suspense many times over throughout reading. There’s a ton of humor, action, adventure, super sexy sex and fun to be had in this wonderfully vivid work of Sheri Fredricks'. Any paranormal lover that wants to enjoy something completely original will get great joy reading Remedy Maker :)

Rhy is a man during the day and a Centaur through the night. He’s also a remedy maker, a very well known and well respected one, that’s super hot (oh, did I mention that already?) and has a super deep problem within himself that even his remedies cannot cure. He lives alone and loves his solidarity. He enjoys helping people, but does not want them to invade his personal space. PTSD has made him this way, it’s how he best lives with it. But that all changes when his dear friend Samuel brings an injured Wood Nymph to his humble abode; she invades much more than his living space and he’s not quite sure how to deal with it.

Patience is one kind, caring, beautiful and very positive thinking Wood Nymph whose way of talking had me laughing out loud multiple times. But her use of words allows us to see how and why she’s perfect for the job she does which is a mediator for the Nymph’s and she’s very good at it! Injured while searching for her missing sister, she awakens and finds herself in a strange place feeling a bit worse for wear. Meeting the well known remedy maker brings forth feelings she’s never before experienced and is unsure how to deal with them. But our forever loyal and reliable fate runs its course and fixes that issue with incredible smoothness ;)

I loved experiencing the growth of both the main characters, growth of love, strength and character. Together they alone accomplished a very difficult task that none other could accomplish for years and they also pulled the wool from many eyes of those who had a very strong prejudice and/or just a misguided mind. If I was to be asked my favorite paranormal couple of this year is so far it would hands down be Patience and Rhy. They are two puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together and each gives the other balance, contentment and happiness they have never known.

I was instantly pulled into this unique world of mythical creatures living in a contemporary world, yet remaining mainly hidden from humans. Remedy Maker was my first fantasy romance and first by this author. What a treat! Not only was the remedy maker male, but hot and intriguing! LOVED IT! LOVED IT! LOVED IT!

I must say that I am sad REMEDY MAKER by SHERI FREDRICKS ended and I had to move on to another book. There was nothing left unanswered. The story was finished beautifully. I just didn't want it to end. I loved the characters so much that I was really sad to say goodbye to them. I have never read about Centaurs or Wood Nymphs before and I was so intrigued with them and their quirkiness and at times outright volatile emotions. What a gift Ms. Fredricks has for storytelling.

I have wanted to read REMEDY MAKER since I first heard about it. What happened when I finally had some personal time to read it? I was not disappointed in the least. It was such an amazing page turner, I found that my finger would hit the screen to turn the page way before it should have. I can't tell you how many times I had to reverse a page on my Kindle because my very excited finger couldn't keep still long enough for me to actually finish reading the page I was on because I just couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

I found the character of Rycious, the Remedy Maker, magical in the way Ms. Fredricks wrote him. He's gorgeous, man by day, centaur by night, the pillar of strength and yet so fragile. He broke my heart. Then you have Patience, the very ill wood nymph with a beautiful, loving spirit and the vocabulary of Snoop Dogg. I LOVED IT!

Another very intriguing storyline of the book that I thought was brilliant is that it's written in present day. These mythological beings live among unknowing humans and must keep their identities hidden from the human hunters. This is just another fantastic storyline in a book that is jam packed with amazing storylines. Ms. Fredricks has the ability to weave multiple intricate and detailed storylines together flawlessly and I am literally on pins and needles waiting to read whatever else she writes.

My advice to anyone that enjoys fantasy, romance, mythological creatures and some really great sex, is to pick this book up immediately! This book was filled with fresh and new things for me and I really loved reading it.

I awaited this book's release for a while so I was glad when I finally had the chance to sit down and read it. I've got to give credit where credit is due. Ms. Fredricks excelled at world building when she created the mythological Boronda Forest full of assorted creatures of myth and fantasy.

Rhy is one of those tortured, loyal heroes who has a duty to carry out, but he also has his heart in the right place. Patience was a entertaining heroine, in my opinion. Her quirky vocabulary tickled me sin...more

Where to start...Ah, at the beginning. Months back I had the great privilege to read the rough draft of Remedy Maker. I was blown away--I knew a winner when I read one. And Remedy Maker was just that. A winner.

I really liked this story. At first I felt a little lost with all the information about the mythological creatures. Then after about 5 chapters I was hooked. This story is about two people/creatures falling in love. And the many prejudices they face because they are from different races. It is also about politics and unrest, which gives and great twist of intrigue to the love story.

Could not even finish (which rarely happens) because of the heroine's speech. Maybe if there was a reason for it I could have excused it, but at least through half way through the book she just speaks in that ridiculous manner. She was supposed to be this great mediator but I couldn't figure out how when you couldn't understand a thin she was saying.

I have always been a lover of mythology, so was already excited when I picked up Ms. Fredricks's Remedy Maker. However, the story still managed to surprise and delight me. Having a centaur as the hero is simply inspired, and I love Patience the wood nymph heroine. I loved this book! Sheri has created a wonderful world within the Boranda forest. Its filled with centuars, nymphs, trolls and some humans. This is a love story at its finest, love does conquer all in this book. It defeats hundreds of years of prejudice brought on by war between the mythical beings and the heroe's bad case of PTSD. An exhilarating adventure with the likes of centaurs; trolls; nymphs; satyrs and more! War and racism has taken its toll. Hope seems to have vanished. Rhys is a remedy maker who has an unconscious woman practically shoved on his doorstep...he wants her gone so he can get back to his crappy PTSD-filled life!

Adventure; humor; treachery; passion; bigotry; nature and love will be your guides if you choose to get on this wild ride!
