A Christmas Carol is a Christmas tale written by Charles Dickens in 1843.

Today, the artist Rod Espinosa has revisited with color and realistic graphics the story. He also imagined to turn the old Ebenezer Scrooge, the miser cruel and heartless old man, into an awful female character. So, some others little changes occur like the work done in the factory.
The drawings of London and the details of places visited with the ghosts in the company of Eliza Scrooge are beautifully represented.

Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol: The Night That Changed the Life of Eliza Scrooge adapted and illustrated by Rod Espinosa is a rather straightforward graphic novel adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, with the rather obvious change being that Ebenezer Scrooge is now Eliza Scrooge, running a textiles shop instead of a banker/solicitor. Why this change was made, I'm not entirely sure. When I read the premise, that Ebenezer was now going to be portrayed as Eliza, I assumed that th...more

A Merry Christmas to All!

I debated on what rating to give this book but I finally settled on two stars. I liked the story a lot but that shouldn't be surprising because it is the exact same story as A Christmas Carol, panel for panel, scene for scene. The only difference is that Scrooge is a woman in this version. I really wanted to give this a higher rating because I love the story but I kept waiting for something different to happen and there wasn't anything different. Why bother retelling th...more

We've seen all the remakes. We've seen Scrooge played by Michael Cain, Daffy Duck, and even Scrooge McDuck, but we've never seen a woman in the role, until now. A Christmas Carol by Rod Espinosa is truly a unique spin on the classic novel. Not only do we see a female character in the lead, but the story has also been redone as a comic book.

If you're looking for a new way to introduce this classic to your preteen, this is an excellent option. The book does have a few spooky elements that small ch...more

A fun read with a female version of Scrooge as the lead. It was an nice twist, however, I wish the gender swap had been done throughout the book (female characters where male had been in the original and vice versa), instead of just with Scrooge - now, that would have been interesting! I must mention the illustrations; some of them, especially the ones of Victorian London were simply gorgeous.

I'm not too sure but I think a couple of pages were missing from my ARC. At least the page where Cratchi...more

A sweet and fairly accurate rendition of A Christmas Carol. The biggest differences were changing Scrooge into a woman named Elizabeth and making the lending house a garment factory. That didn't draw away from the story and the change of heart Scrooge has during the journey. Much of the dialogue came straight from the original text. I thought adding the "future" of her rejected love was a nice touch - a little more twist to the knife.
The pictures were bright and engaging making the story even mo...more

I don't read graphic novels/comics that often, but when I saw this one, I immediately knew I have to read it. Because it's A Christmas Carol retelling and I was so curious to see how this classic would work as a graphic novel.

Did it work? It did and it didn't.
The opening was amazing! There was the beautiful Victorian London covered with snow with children playing in it. Very merry atmosphere, because it's Christmas time. Pure happiness. But then what a hor...more

I was surprised by how closely they stuck to the dialogue from the book. Also, with a gender swapped lead, I thought they would have made more alterations (like swapping other role genders).
