I received an ARC of this story in exchange for a fair review.

I love stories that will carry me away and get me so wrapped up in what is going on that I forget that I am reading a story. Fortunato has done this for me. "The Sin Collector" was a fantastic book, but I feel that in "Thomas" she has created a depth of character that made me feel deeply for the situations portrayed. Thomas is a much fuller person in my mind now, with a fascinating story all his own.

Setting the story during a war was...more

I received this ARC for a fair review.

The Good:

Characters: I loved Thomas from the first book, The Sin Collector. I was excited to see what history made Thomas into the man he was. I was not let down. We get to see Thomas struggle between love and duty. You got a reel feeling for him and the other characters. I'm hoping to see more of Emmilina in later books.

Pacing: I love fast paced books and this one did not disappoint. Since it was a short story, I devoured it in one night but it still left m...more

I really like what Jessica Fortunato did with Thomas. The story line was very interesting and I always like to know more about certain characters that appear in books, I really believe that it helps you enter the world created by the author in a more realistic manner. I think that what I loved most about the book was being able to understand what the protection ritual was all about. In The Sin Collector we only hear about it since Lily is unconscious throughout the whole process, but in this boo...more

Earlier in the year I read Jessica Fortunato’s debut novel The Sin Collector, book one in her Sin Collector Trilogy. The book was a refreshing take on the paranormal in the sense that Fortunato dug up a little known (at least to me) mythical being sometimes known as a Sin-Eater or Collector. That alone had me had me wanting to read the book, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Not too long after the author allowed the fans to choose which character from the book they’d like to read as the star of a short...more

The Basics: This long short story, or short novella, is a lovely companion to The Sin Collector and a nice interlude before the release of the sequel. It satisfies the curiosities of fans of the first book who met Thomas briefly and, like me, were intrigued by his history. It also takes you more in depth into the protection ritual practiced by the Collectors, as well as Collector lore that could very well become important later on (I hope). Focusing on the...more

*Disclaimer: I did receive a free ARC of this book in order to review prior to release. This however did not influence my review in any way.*

Shortly after the release of her debut novel The Sin Collector, Jessica Fortunato held a contest asking her readers which character they would like to learn more about. The winning character was Thomas and this is his story.

War always comes at a great price. Thomas knows this better perhaps than anyone. Thomas has seen many wars come and go during his unend...more

Very interesting story about the early years of Thomas as a Sin Collector. Obviously, you need to read The Sin Collector first to fully understand this story. Otherwise, you would be quite at lost. This short story helps to understand better some events that happen in the original book, and it also sets the ground for future events, since there are open questions. I have read this story in just one hour (because I was interrupted several times), and I have loved it. Jessica Fortunato does a grea...more

Hot on the heels of her impressive debut, “The Sin Collector,” Jessica Fortunato delves into the tragic past of one of her characters to deliver another amazing story.

In a case of truly giving fans what they asked for, Fortunate held a contest that let readers select the main character of her next book … and they chose Thomas!

“The Sin Collector: Thomas” moves though multiple, pivotal time periods of Thomas’ existence—a skillful approach that allows Fortunato to present a bigger picture without...more

When I read book #1 of the series earlier this year, I immediately fell in love with the story. It was very different from all the books I read so far in my life, the story of the Sin- Eaters was very fascinating to me. I love learning about myths and legends and this did grab my attention. Book #1 has so many interesting characters, Thomas is one of them. Thomas won the maximum number of votes when the author held an online poll for her readers to decide whose story they would love to read next...more

Jessica Fortunato is a writer in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

She has been a freelance reviewer for the past three years. She has always loved a supernatural aspect to literature, as well as the addition of theology, so it is no surprise that her debut novel "The Sin Collector" combines just that.
