"As long as no one asks and they don t tell "

First class petty officer Eric Randall is less than thrilled about taking orders to Okinawa. Three long, lonely years on a crappy island that s thousands of miles from his daughter? Oh. Yeah. Sign him up. But as long as he s stuck here, he might as well make the best of it, so he discreetly checks out the local gay scene.

Two Hot Military Alpha Males ~ Just needed more angst to satisfy my needs!...

"Dude Okinawa is a fucking shit-hole"

Those were the words ringing in Eric's ears as he departs for a three year tour of the Japanese Island. Three years in a foreign country where he doesn't know the language - and, they drive on the wrong side of the road! Three years without his daughter and three years on a small Island where being Gay is more conspicuous than not!

Lonely and in need of male company and not just to...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Seriousely, I think I posted more status updates for this story, than any I've read before! Both of the MC's were very likeable and had some amazing chemistry, in and out of the bedroom. Although I must admit, I was a little more partial to Eric over Shane (what? *shrugs* Millitary Police, in uniform, turn me on...lol!). And Eric's daughter, Marie, was hilarious! In the end, it was a low angst, funny, steamy ride, that I'm very happy I took!

I loved this one. I liked how much colour and detail it had. Both MCs were very likable and I loved the easy banter and sense of humour, especially with the daughter of one of the MCs. A really good love story - extra points for SLOW development of feelings after the hot hot gymnastics! I really appreciate this kind of structure, because to me it feels much more realistic and keeps a bit of tension in the story.

Oops!
M/m-sex in a guidebook of Okinawa?
How naughty...

I got a vivid picture of Okinawa told from the viewpoints of two military guys trying to keep their love-affair a secret, having sex at every opportunity and discussing family stuff like kids and ex- wives
A plot was nowhere to be found...

2 stars for the story,
3 stars for the guidebook.(Rating would be higher if I had bought it as such...)

I don't have a ton to say about this book. It was my first L.A. Witt novel, and I really liked it.

I thought Eric and Shane were great characters - their love was real and well-developed, their chemistry was sexy, and there was a lot of serious built-up tension related to the Navy regs that should have kept them apart.

However, despite that tension, it *was* a bit anti-climatic in terms of the plot. I kept expecting Something Terrible to happen, and it never really did. But I found the...more

First Class Petty Officer Eric Randall is a single man who just got stationed in Okinawa, Japan for three years. Having just come back from a tour in the Middle East, he’s not very happy about his assignment because it will take him away from his teenage daughter. So, he’s angry, determined to hate Okinawa and trying to figure out his new job as a supervisor of security forces (they are called Master-at-Arms or MA’s). Add in the fact, he’s gay, he wonders how he’s ever going to find so...more

Life in the Military.
Okinawa. Love. Family. Separation.
This writer has created such a detailed balance. I could not help but enjoy this book. I almost pulled myself back because of the conduct issue Ugh. Whew glad I didn't this book was a well written treat, and now one of my FAV!
Loved it!

I actually ended up really liking this one. Probably the best-written L.A. Witt I've read yet.

I had some worries about this story in the beginning upon realizing it's written in the first person POV. It actually works in this case though, because the chapters alternate between Eric and Shane which allows the reader to get the full story, both MC's thoughts and emotions. I loved the slow development of their relationship, from attraction and lust to love. It's done very believably and organically...more

If you're a fan already then you won't be disappointed, if you've never read an L A Witt novel then you'll probably become one! I love LA Witts books and this was no exception. As always she nails the chemistry between her two main characters Eric and Shane, when they are together they sizzle and ooze ST, so the love scenes are hot and sensual but never gratuitous. Of course the military and it's attitude to homosexuality is at the centre of this story so we get the drama that gives the story so...more

This started as a bad piece of PWP to tell the truth with so much gratuitous swearing I nearly put it down. And I live in the east end - and swear like a trouper - and write characters that swear like a whole troupe of troupers! It was just so unnecessary in this instance.
The sex was trying too hard to be hot. I usually bookmark sex scenes in M/M stuff for later but not with this one. Also the amount of American Naval terms without any glossary or in text explanation was just showing off as far...more

There is something truly special about LA Witt’s writing. She has a descriptive, almost lyrical way of writing a story that I really appreciate as a reader. Not only does she seem to really get to the heart and soul of her characters, she has a way of gripping this reader’s attention and somehow getting me emotionally involved with her heroes and the story they tell.

The blurb does an outstanding job at describing the story, but what it doesn’t tell you is h...more

I loved this book cause I'm into military m/m romance and this story did it for me. Eric and Shane were just at my taste, both strong and lovable men, they were a perfect match and I really like when a story is shown from both POV's, I had no trouble catching up who's actually narrating the story.

And it was very obvious that the author (dear L.A. Witt), must have been on this place before.
The islands, the smaller and the bigger ones, were beautifully described, I could smell the air and feel the...more

I will be honest - I pretty much abandoned the books by this writer, not because I do not like her writing, but because her works seem to have more and more sex and just were becoming too cookie cutter for me. I am glad I listened to several recommendations and decided to come back.

One of the trademark of her contemporary works that I actually enjoyed was that the guys are mature men who deal with the believable and realistic problems in their life and often do so in a mature grown up way.

As much as I wanted to like this story more (The longer the story, the better I like it) it fell short.
I nearly shelved it after the first chapter as Eric's thoughts were muddled and repetitive with his first impressions on arriving on Okinawa.
I'm glad I persevered though.
I loved the main characters (and the secondary ones as well), but there really wasn't much of a plot. If you read the blurb, you really don't need to read the story, as it says it all.
At the end, I read the author liv...more

When Eric Randall and Shane Connelly meet in a gay bar in Okinawa, they both know the other is military but they have no idea one is enlisted and one is an officer. They meet, it's explosive and they immediately fall in lust and in bed. OMG, these two will set your e-reader on fire! Once Eric finds out Shane is an officer he freaks, but Shane who has spent time in Okinawa before convinces him they can enjoy the island and each other if they a...more

I don't even know where to begin with this book. It was so good I couldn't stop reading it all day... every free second I had I spent with Shane and Eric and every second I wasn't reading I was thinking about them.

This story deals with the sensitive issues of gays in the military and how they still have to deal with it despite Don't Ask Don't Tell being revoked. Eric is given slam orders to Okinawa where he'll be spending the next three years without his daughter. He ends up in a club known for...more

I have always enjoyed Witt's stories, but especially enjoyed this one and its glimpse of life on 'The Rock' or otherwise known as Okinawa... It was a beautiful glimpse into the island and local culture, and with the military aspect, well, this one was just a winner for me...

Also thought it was a great touch bringing in the MC's family elements from the States, and lets you think about the struggles that most all military families must go through, and what brings them together, as well as what m...more

A 3.5 rating.

Eric Randall and Shane Connelly are both stationed in Okinawa. Eric is a new arrival, Shane has been there for six months. They meet in a local gay bar and the mutual attraction is instantaneous. However, they soon discover that because of their difference in ranks, they are entering into Unbecoming Conduct, meaning they could lose their careers if their superiors find out. Enter a period of clandestine meetings and gradual falling in love because of course these two men cannot stay...more

I just finished Conduct Unbecoming. I liked it very much - L.A. Witt is so good, and it was interesting to see her love of Okinawa shining through. But I found it difficult to relax and enjoy the book, because the MCs' positions seemed so hopeless. I kept putting off reading the next few chapters because I dreaded what might happen!

Fortunately, there isn't too much angst and I know I'll love to re-read it and really revel in the excellent writing. And if I ever travel that way it is a very good...more

I'm conflicted about this one.

On the plus side: the characters are appealing, the chemistry is VERY hot, and Witt obviously knows both the locale (she lived in Okinawa for three years) and the military culture (her husband is military). As an added personal bonus, these guys are evenly matched, both strong manly men, and frequently switch the top/bottom roles, details which always appeal to me as a reaer.

On the minus side: the alternating first person POVs are confusing, in part because the nar...more

Eric and Shane are both in the military, posted many miles from home and lonely. They get together for a one-night stand and find themselves wanting more, something they shouldn't be wanting due to their ranks.

This is a story of the choices made by Eric and Shane, risking their careers and their hearts, and ultimately forced into making a decision to put one before the other.

The secondary characters are interesting, particularly Eric's daughter and there are some amusing conversations between th...more

Flip flopping points of view of repeat scenes in the first person, really tends to annoy me when there isn't much substance.

The first 25% of this novel had potential. The chemistry is undeniably steaming, and the sex was erotic and delicious. I enjoyed the back drop of Okinawa and what the different cultures have to offer, but I need more than that to pin me down. There is only so much of the wonders of Japan to keep me interested.
Unfortunately the following 25% of enduring the format and not f...more

I didn't hate this book but there were far too many things that bugged me to make me love it. I didn't care for the alternating POV. Not because I don't like that format but because these two men were not Different enough from one another. Both military, both divorced with kids, both stressed out over missing the kids, both had the same fears about their relationship. They were just too similar. The other thing that bugged me was that this was sort of a Guide to Okinawa: What to see that the Ave...more

The backdrop of this story is the beautifully written Okinawa, brought to life superbly in the words Witt uses as descriptives. I was literally transported by her descriptions of the land, islands and castles. I would close my eyes between paragraphs and I was there at Katsuren Castle with Eric and Shane!

Eric is new to the island and not even remotely excited with his latest tour, having left behind his teenage daughter in the states with his ex wife for the next three years. He is a career mil...more

I loved this book. It's been a while between drinks, as the saying goes, for me and L A Witt. Thank God I pre-ordered this. If I hadn't I may have missed out on what is a terrifc piece of M/M fiction. Once I picked it up I could not put this book down. And I'll further that by saying I'm now re-reading it. It's that darn good. One of the best M/M reads for me of 2012. I can't give any more than 5 stars but I bloody well would have if I could have.

What really appealed to me about this book when I read the blurb was that it had that whole forbidden romance thing going for it. Two men in the military fall in love. This is after the end of DADT, but still forbidden because Shane is an officer, while Eric is enlisted.

I absolutely loved the setting of the book. It is obvious that the author either lived or spent a great deal of time in Okinawa. The descriptions of the places were amazing. I felt like I was there.

I also think this book did a...more

Ehhh. There was way too much in this book totally unrelated to the couple. And I just knew when I got to the author bio I'd find out she lived in Japan and I was right. The book read like a travel guide of Okinawa and I found myself skimming large sections I simply didn't care about. That was mixed in with large scenes not having a thing to do with the advancing the plot. There was very little actual drama and I don't think there was enough romance either. Wanted to like it, really didn't. And I...more

L.A. Witt is an abnormal M/M romance writer who, after three years in Okinawa, Japan, has recently relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two cats, and a three-headed clairvoyant parakeet named Fred. There is some speculation that this move was not actually because of her husband's military orders, but to help L. A. close in on her arch nemesis, erotica author Lauren Gallagher, who has al...more
