Meet Me Under the Mistletoe is a seasonal read telling the story of two estranged friends who for reasons beyond their control are forced to temporarily swap house. They reluctantly settle into the for them foreign places and after a bumpy start they start to learn more about themselves and discover what is truly important in life.

Laurie is a fashion designer in the bustling city of London. Consumed by her career it's not uncommon for her to arrive at the office as early as 7.30am. However, her...more

It’s the first of December and I can’t think of a better way to start your countdown to christmas than with the wonderfully festive ‘Meet Me Under The Mistletoe’

Abby Clements brings us two strong female characters in the form of career minded Laurie and family minded Rachel.

Friends since childhood their lives have taken them on different paths but through the odd email or text message they still remain connected and when Laurie has a problem at work and Rachel’s mother in law needs hospital trea...more

I'd been looking forward to reading Meet Me Under The Mistletoe ever since I saw an image of the gorgeous cover, which is even more beautiful and sparkly in real life. I love Christmas and Meet Me Under The Mistletoe has lots of festive charm, from Bea's Countdown To Christmas (which I long to own) to the Reindeer Wonderland (which I long to go to). There is a diverse range of characters in the book; Lily, Laurie's downstairs neighbour who is warm and loving but misses her own family and Siobhan...more

I’m a very Christmassy person, I start talking about Christmas in August and I literally can never wait to put all my decorations up as soon as it hits December. One thing I especially love as a reader is books with a Christmas theme, and so as soon as I saw Abby Clements new book I could not wait to start it!

We open the story at the start of a very big morning for Laurie. At the fashion label she works at, the handbag that Laurie has been in charge of for months has its release date on that ver...more

Having just taken down the decorations for yet another year only to be left with a bland house or so it seems without the glitz and glamour of fairy lights and tinsel, it was perfect timing that I also came to the end of my 'Christmas reads' for 2012. And I was so glad that it was this book that I chose to finish on. It is the story of a couple of old school friends whose lives went in very different directions with one (Rachel) becoming a wife and stay-at-home mum to two children and the other...more

I love being able to curl up in front of the fire with a glass of mulled wine and a Christmas read so was delighted when Lindsay asked me to review this book for her blog.

The story is told mainly through the eyes of Rachael and Laurie, childhood friends who have chosen very different paths in their adult lives.
Laurie is a fashion designer in a London firm, a work- a -holic she puts work in front of everything else in her life. A mistake that will cost the firm a lot of money forces her into an u...more

Christmas is by far my favourite time of the year and as soon as Halloween is over with I allow myself to start getting a little bit excited for it! This means starting on my festive chick-lit books that I look forward to reading all year and at the very top of that pile this year was Meet Me Under The Mistletoe and so on November 1st I pulled this one down from the shelf and prepared myself for a heart-warming festive read and this book certainly delivered!

The book begins on November 20th with...more

If you’re looking for an easy and charming read for the Christmas season, look no further – Meet Me Under the Mistletoe, Abby Clements’s debut novel, will definitely put you in the Christmas spirit. It’s a light and entertaining read that would make a perfect Christmas present or a great read the week before Christmas Day. Even though it’s only October and snow, Christmas trees and fairy lights are still nowhere to be seen, Laurie a...more

I seem to be hooked on the up and coming Christmas reads, is that bad when it is only October? Meet me Under the Mistletoe is Abby Clements debut book and the cover is beautiful with it’s shimmering sparkle that instantly catches your eye I was hoping the storyline would win me over as much as the cover had!

Now this, ladies and gentlemen, is what you call chick lit: two polar opposite female protagonists, small picturesque village, atmospheric festive London, deliciously manly men all embroiled in high-emotion dramas.

The writing style is confident and smooth, meaning Meet Me Under The Mistletoe goes down as easily as a hunk of chocolate cake washed down with a cuppa. The plot almost splits into two, telling separate stories, but also cleverly interweaves to keep the basis of the concept together, a...more

First of all, the cover of the book is just F - A - N - T - A - s - T - I - C. I am such a sucker when it comes to such covers, so sweet and festive, and so, so nice.
Then, the book itself have me hookes from the very first page to the very last one. It was a fabulous read. I don't know why, because maybe the plot was not the most ambitious, but it was written in such a pleasant, warm and emotional way. Very likeable characters, very nice people, very likeable problems. I loved Rachel and Laurie,...more

I was so thrilled when I got this book in the mailbox the other day. It was like Christmas came early and with the stunning cover and heartwarming to boot, it really felt like Christmas in October! So instead of studying for my finals, I started on it straight away and I never regretted! But before I discuss about Abby Clements's fabulous debut novel, can I point out that the cover is absolutely stunning! Initially, the cov...more

Meet Me Under the Mistletoe really is a remarkable debut from Abby Clements that is full of warm hearted fun and has a lot of sparkle throughout. What I enjoyed the most was the 2 ladies separate stories, while they are best-friends they couldn't be more different. I enjoyed different things about the 2 leading ladies - Laurie, I think went on the biggest journey throughout the book and she learns so much about herself. Rachel, she has a real homely feel about her, which I love. The author has...more

My immediate thought after reading was that this book reminded me of the movie called “The Holiday” starring Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jack Black and Jude Law. Two strangers who desperately need a break from their daily lives end up swapping houses and lifestyles for a few days. Only in this book the switch happens between two long lost friends whose lives have taken some unexpected turns. One of the friends, Rachel, is a mother to two children and needs some medical answers and relief for her...more

Really loved this book. Didn't know quite what to expect when I chose it. The stories of Laurie and Rachel were that engaging I couldn't put the book down ... finished reading it in the early hours of the morning.

A great Christmas story thats not schmalzy like some can be. Its a festive tale of two friends who don't keep in touch as often as they should until ... won't say anything more but would definitely recommend this as one to read.

Really enjoyed this book - this is a really chic-lit book. Rachel and Laurie were childhood friends but there lives took different paths. Laurie lives and works in London for a high flying fashion company. Rachel lives in Yorkshire with her husband and two children.

It is the lead up to Christmas and things are not going to good for Laurie at work so she is given some unexpected time of work. Rachel's mother-in-law is not well and needs to go into hospital in London. So they both swap houses.

For a first book this is fabulous, a real dream of a book. A quick read with heartwarming stories that gives the true meaning of Christmas. The characters in the two places are adorable and soon catch the readers heart, as well as Laurie and the Murray family.
A book that dreams and Christmas movies are made of, loved every page an cant wait to read the next book of Abby's.

It's more like 3.5 stars, I think is nice book, but I have read better books. It was easy and nice and I liked it.

A nice heartwarming little Christmas book.

This is the first book by Abby Clements and reading this I didn't think it was. Her writing is really good and this book is very thought out. It made me crave to have a big family one day to spend Christmas with and to do some baking during the festive time. At first I didn't warm to Laurie but as the book went on I became to like her more. I liked her relationship with her Rachels daughter Milly. I look forward to reading more from Abby.
