I have not read the previous books in this series, and it's probable I would have enjoyed this book more if I were familiar with the backstory, but it's improbable that I would have, on balance, actually liked it.
The author is extremely wrapped up in her cutesy setting. We hear about every single outfit everybody wears, the details of everyone's cute little businesses with their punny names and the descriptions of what everyone is eating are just interminable. I honestly don't need an in-depth d...more

"To Brie or Not To Brie" is a cozy mystery. It's the fourth book in a series, and you'll probably enjoy it most if you've read the previous books in the series (which I haven't). We're introduced to 25 characters in the first 28 pages--along with their back story--while several of the women are yelling accusations and cat-fighting with each other. Since I was new to these characters, it was terribly confusing and hard to keep track of. Since the next scene occurred days later and introduced yet...more
I just love when a book ties in with not only the cover art but the clever titles. This fourth novel in the excellent series known as the 'Cheese Shop Mysteries' in a good example. Both the themes of a wedding and Shakespeare were featured in this excellent murder mystery of a cozy nature.

Life is good...Meredith is getting married, Rebecca is engaged as is Charlotte, but events soon to happens threatens the upcoming wedding when a visitor is found dead in a freezer and suspicions falls on a friend. Try as she might, Charlotte is once again thrust into investigating who wants this man dead and why.
What a wonderfully-crafted story that I could not put down. With all the elements that I love in a good mystery: intriguing plot twists, suspicious suspects, a mix and humor and romance...more

Charlotte Bessette—owner of Fromagerie Bessette, known by locals as The Cheese Shop is one busy lady. She is planning the menu for best friend and cousin’s wedding and she is trying to come up with new and unique choices like Brie Blueberry Ice Cream. Her grandmother’s theater group is doing Hamlet outside on the Village Green and Charlotte has to keep the cast and crew well fed. Plus she has her own wedding to plan or at least settle on a date for the wedding.

I have read the previous books in this series and this one just wasn't very good. There are far too many characters who have no depth. Example: females: Charlotte, Meredith, Tyanne, Iris, Prudence, Edy, Annabelle, Octavia, Rebecca, Sylvie, Freckles. Really? Again, none of them have any depth and I had to keep reminding myself who they were each time they appeared in the story. Charlotte does ridiculous things (going through a "suspect's" car in broad daylight when it's parked on the street) that...more
Avery Aames did it again. What a wonderful mystery!!! It had me guessing until the very end. This time Matthew is getting married, but there is a murder involved. Will the wedding go off as planned or will the killer mess up everything? Charlotte is responsible for planning the food for the wedding all the while trying to figure out who the killer of not one but two people are. To add to her job, she has to worry about Jordon and his sister Jacky...are they involved?? What is Jordon's secret?? T...more
To Brie Or Not To Brie by Avery Aames is the 4th book in the delectable A Cheese Shop Mystery series.
Things are going good in Providence, Charlotte has gotten engaged to Jordan, she is helping to plan her best friend Meredith's wedding to her cousin Matthew. Life is good. That is, until Jordan's sisters, Jacky, estranged husband, Giacomo, shows up in town.
With ice cream from the Igloo Ice Cream Parlor, across the street from The Cheese Shop, Charlotte has come up with a wonderful Brie blueberry...more

Charlotte Bessette, owner of The Cheese Shop (Fromagerie Bessette) is busy with her best friend and her cousin's upcoming wedding; her grandmother's production of Hamlet in the city square; and deciding on her own wedding date. On top of everything, a body is found in the ice cream parlor's freezer. Too many characters to keep up with even though I've read this series in order. I like cheese and wine and this series enough to try Days of Wine and Roquefort when it is released, but just can't giv...more
So-so. I really like the characters and the setting, and I like the cheese shop - but the sales pitch that goes with almost every single mention of a cheese or a wine gets annoying. I find myself muttering "blah blah blah" and skipping over it. I don't mind an occasional description, but it's over used and constantly sounds like she's selling. I also found the arrogance of Charlotte's friends ("you must investigate this murder!") to be insanely ridiculous - and a turn off for me. I enjoy the ama...more
this is one of those series where I get caught up with the characters and their lives, never wanting the story to end and upset at the ending which puts me in angst until the next book. Leaving the characters future in "limbo" has me sad that I can't "just pick up the next" book to find the resolve, sigh..........
Avery has cooked up the best recipe for murder and wedding dishes. The twists and turns were leaving me dizzy right to the very end. This is the best book in the series to date, and they can only get better and better as the series continues.
I am so glad I was gifted with a copy of this book by a close friend.

Charlotte is busy as usual trying to set a date for her wedding, while helping Matthew and Meredith plan their wedding. Planning the food for the Hamlet production. She is also helping out the local ice cream parlor owner make a new flavor to sell in his store. Strangers are in town for the Stomp the Grapes race, but two of them seem very suspicious. When one of them is found dead inside the ice cream freezer Charlotte is encouraged to figure out who did it. Was it Jacky's new flame?

This series is really growing on me. I am really enjoying the characters and I find myself growing to love Charlotte and her friends and family. I really love the setting and I wish I could find my own little cheese shop to hang out in. The end left me a little bit speechless and I think opens the door for additional romance for Charlotte. I am excited to see what happens next. My only issue with the book is that Charlotte was pretty nosy and overbearing with some of the people she questioned -...more
I enjoy this series, particularly the setting, the main characters, and all the food descriptions. I will keep reading as new entries come out but I do wish the author would not drag quite so many people through quite so many scenes. I grew up in a small town in Ohio like the one in this series and most people did not bop in and out of places all day long.
Charlotte is so busy - helping with her cousin and her best friend's wedding, trying to figure out a date for her own wedding, and worrying about her grandparents. But then a couple of strangers come to the small Ohio town Charlotte calls home. And later, one of the strangers is found dead in the local ice cream place.
I like this series because there's always so many choices for the murderer, and you are kept guessing until the end. I was suspicious of one character, who ended up ultimately being the murderer, but I wasn't as disappointed with figuring it out as I am with other series because it wasn't a very obvious motive.

Avery Aames, author of A Cheese Shop Mystery for Berkley Prime Crime, is the pseudonym for Daryl Wood Gerber. Daryl created the format for the popular sitcom, "Out of this World" and has won awards for her screenplays. She also writes short stories and suspense novels.
