One of the few times I've not finished a book. A couple of times I stopped, waited a while, felt badly about it and picked it back up intending to finish. I read a few more pages and decided it was pointless. If you're not enjoying something, why continue? I felt absolutely no connection to either of the main characters and in fact actively disliked both of them. Gratuitous sex scenes that seemed to go on forever had me skimming ahead to find....more sex. Ridiculous sex in a club with a throng o ...more

Thinking about it, this is only the second book I had ever re-read-- the first one being Joshua (I know, completely different genre.) And still a five stars book in my opinion. Why? Because it has everything I like in a romance novel: second chances, raw emotions, lots of angst, a good combination of forceful & lovely sex scenes, and a lot of mundane events, all under a holiday setting. For me, all of these works well. This story is not a literary masterpiece, but a go

So beautiful.... So much emotion.... To say that I ABSO-FUCKIN-LUTELY loved this book, would be an understatement... And the ending... (I felt like Marty McFly in Back to the Future; remember the part where Marty was playing at the school dance and he could feel himself fading away, because his future parents hadn't kissed/connected? Then when they did, Marty could feel himself coming back; he'd stopped fading, he jumped up and realised all was good in his world...) THAT'S HOW I FELT; I despaire ...more

I would have liked this book much better if there weren't so many sex scenes. The characters were very interesting, but most of the their development was done through their sex life which I found disappointing. When they did manage to talk (or fight more likely) it was a good story. The book is about misunderstandings, fear and loss. Kyle is heavily closeted and whilst I could understand his issues, his obsession over it all become so tiresome. The characters fought a lot and with reason, but ag ...more

Kyle Wakefield’s up and coming production company has been contracted to do a big action movie in London. It’s a film that could put his company on the map and bring him lots of business. It requires some pretty elaborate stunts, so he hires a stunt company, also up and coming, called Second Chances. Kyle is taking a big risk hiring Second Chances and while he believes they are the best company for the job, it’s not the only reason he’s hired them.

Nathan Carnes started Second Chances after he go

2.5 stars, in reality.
A potentially good action story, marred by unlikeable characters and way, way too much sex.

What worked for me: The London setting was vivid and felt authentic. The Christmas atmosphere was very much present, but it was not cloying or cutesy. The descriptions of the stuntwork were terrific and very edge-of-seat; and more importantly (to me) they sounded realistic. They were the best parts of the book, actually. Not every stunt went perfectly, and when it didn't, it was belie

Kyle and Nathan met and fell in love in high school. But Kyle's inability to really come out and stand up to his parents in combination with Nathan's insecurities about not being good enough for Kyle caused everything to crash and burn.
More than ten years later, they meet again in London. The spark is still there and it burns spectacularly throughout the book. Sex was never the problem between these two and it is plentiful and at times quite rough (for which they will hear absolutely no complain

Normally I am all over a book which features reunited lovers, but Came Upon a Midnight Clear just wasn't my thing. Too many sex scenes, not enough plot development and I wound up skimming the sex -- I know color me surprised too. But, I just did not buy Kyle and Nate's instant reunion sex or the sex in public places with Kyle trying to stay in the closet. While the last third of the novel picked up and was quite enjoyable, in my mind the first third dragged. This writing team is talented and I w ...more

Whew! These two were hot! I thought they were adorable, at least when I wasn't wanting to shake them in frustration.

A private boarding school - add two hormonal teenagers: one scholarship student (Nate) from the wrong side of the track and one (Kyle) a rich trust fund baby - mix and you get the innocent rush of first love that burns hot and believes that anything is possible. Kyle is going to Yale and going to share an apartment with Nate. They have it all planned out but ... life seldom goes as planned.

Nate does three years in prison and Kyle graduates from Yale. Fast forward 7 years. Kyle is a movie produce

Kyle Wakefield is a film producer working in London on a blockbuster movie. He and his business partner, Stephanie, have hired Second Chances, a stunt movie crew made up of ex-cons and run by Kyle's former lover, Nathan Carnes. Nate is furious when he finds out Kyle is behind the job, but it's too late to back out now. Ten years ago the two lovers were planning a life together. But Kyle was still in the closet and Nate, considering himself not good enough for Kyle, does something that lands him ...more

Loved the London setting and the combination of both the old flame and enemies to lovers tropes. While some of closeted Kyles actions were puzzling (public sex!), the characters were great--particularly Nate. There's a lot of sex in this book, but it's really well written and I hope Katie Porter tackles more m/m in future.

I truly loved it. I don't understand some of the less than stellar reviews, because the MCs were vulnerable but tough...the setting was great. I don't agree that there was too much was a vital way that the MC's communicated. It wasn't gratuitous, and I thought it was hot, but well done.

I liked the blueb but the story wasn' t not so beliebable: a deeply closetrd man who has sex in every conceivable room with or without an ausience with a sprinkle of D/s and breathplay..
It was for just not believable, sorry

Okay, I typically don't like reunited lovers stories, but this had SUCH a compelling backstory for why the characters split apart that it hit all my reader buttons. It was romantic and hot and so well written. A keeper for me.

I found the outline of the story a tad misleading. Kyle is told to be a shy, in closet, worried about being outed in Hollywood. He has sex out in the public, kisses in the open.... Doesn't quite match to me.

Why I read it: I have Double Down and Inside Bet on my TBR and I was really excited to see an m/m romance was next up. I pre-ordered and, after being assured by the Book Pushers that it was a stand alone, I dived in.

This is my first book by the writing team of Katie Porter, and I have to say I will be looking into the rest of their books!! I honestly can’t put into adequate words how much I enjoyed this book! This book gets everyone of your emotions involved.

Kyle Wakefield is an up in coming movie producer, and he is living a life that is basically a closeted lie. He knows to come out the closet could hurt the business he and his best friend are bu

I loved the sound of this book right from the start. I've read quite a lot of M/M romance erotica and some of it is pretty 'wham bang thank you maam' (you know what I mean) and seems to say the same thing over and over again, just in different settings.

But this book I got into right from the beginning because I just love books set in the movie world and I love books set in my home town of London. From the first introduction of the rather uptight, sexy and still in the closet (although the man ca

This year I’ve had the pleasure of discovering the talented Katie Porter. I’ve really enjoyed their Vegas Top Guns series, they are great stories and VERY erotic. However, although I was very excited to start reading this book, I didn’t know what to expect of them writing m/m.

I can’t say that I consider myself an expert in the genre, but I have read quite a bit of it this past year and I find that sometimes the feelings don’t translate, or that they feel

When Katie asked me if I wanted to check out some upcoming reads my answer was "YES YES YES". Now mind you I didn't know exactly what she was sending me but man oh man this one was so yummy. I believe when I was reading this I kept tweeting "OMFG This is war war war too freaking HAWT!!!" If you don't like M/M then please turn away from this review because this is one steamy man-love story complete with angst and past heartbreak…

I really loved this story. Kyle and Nathan have believable history. I understood why each of them did the stupid things they did as kids and again as adults. I was moved by their story of misunderstandings and missteps. I was shocked when Kyle and Nathan see each other again after many years apart and the first thing they do is have dirty sex. I was about to be appalled until I realized that is was a great jumping off point to the characters communicating with each other and rebuilding trust. I ...more

Enjoyed this story for the characters. I liked that Second Chance helped ex-cons have a fresh start with a higher chance of success. The MCs interaction was good. Hot sex.

Good characters. Compelling action. Believable angst. Good resolution.
DNF I couldn't stand either MC and gave up reading.
3.5 stars. Read for m/m team bingo special holiday theme challenge. My review is here.

Summarized, less sex scenes would've made me enjoy it so much more, but overall a pretty interesting book. I really liked the stunt scenes, Kyle and Nate's dates in London, and the last few chapters (view spoiler).

I liked the characters, even the main woman was likeable, I just wish we got to see more of them. There were too many sex scenes and not enough plot and character development. I would have liked to know more about what Nate was thinking. Also pov jumping back and forth occasionally took me out of the story. Still I liked Kyle a lot and was rooting for him.

The writing was very good and it is obvious that a lot of research was needed to write this realistic story about moviemaking. However, the MC:s were just not very likeable. Kyle, especially, seemed like a slimy, dishonourable bastard to me. Very little emotion except anger were shown up until the very end. I just don't like that in a romance.
5 stars for writing and research, 1 star for the couple's romance, ends in 3 stars.

The synopsis sounded interesting so after an immediate dislike of the interactions between the MCs on first meeting I kept reading. I wanted to know what had happened 10 years ago to cause such volatile reactions each time they met. I got my answer at almost the end of the book.
The MCs are stubborn and antagonise each other but still end up in bed.
Not my type of story.
