From Jonas Salk to Steven Spielberg, the subjects of these biographical-inspired poems invented something, said something, stood for something, did something, changed something. They dared to dream.

Thirty of our nation's most prestigious poets focus their creative vision on people who not only changed their own lives, but the lives of people all over the world.

A fresh, original concept coupled with poems that draw you in from page one. Jill is my agent, so I will say right off that I bought this book thinking to support her, knowing that she's a gifted poet, and has powerful ideas. But in addition to being a writer, I'm also a teacher. And within seconds, I had that familiar tickle in my stomach that I get when I know I've stumbed upon something rich and engaging. I can't wait to use this book with my 6th grade students--it's going to enrich my poetry...more

The FedEx guy made my day this morning. He dropped off my contributor copies of the anthology Dare to Dream . . . Change the World, a project conceived and edited by Jill Corcoran, and illustrated by J. Beth Jepson. I am thrilled to be a part of this project, which features some of the very best children's poets writing today.

The book is swoonily gorgeous, y'all. For serious. Jill asked pairs of poets to submit poems about "people who invented something, stood for something, said something, who...more

I received my contributor copies a couple of days ago for Dare to Dream…Change the World, a poetry anthology conceived of and edited by Jill Corcoran (Kane Miller, 2012). Oh. My. Gosh. I read the entire book while I did the elliptical. See, poetry is good for you in so many ways.

Seriously, this is one of the best anthologies I’ve read in years! (And I say that totally disregarding the fact that I have a poem in it.) There are opening and closing poems about dreaming and changing the world, and i...more

Thirty poets offer their takes on ways to change the world or individuals who did just that. Two poems with similar themes are paired on facing pages. Some of the pairings work better than others. For instance, two poems celebrate dance and Martha Graham's unique style of dancing. Two other poems link the connection to farm animals in "Cussing at Cows" and "Temple Grandin," which relies on Grandin's own words for part of the poem. Readers are reminded that every act we take causes a ripple in th...more

I discovered this book while looking for multicultural poetry selections for my graduate class, and I absolutely loved it. The theme of social justice and the hope of unlimited possibilities are the common thread woven into the 30 poems collected by Corcoran. It is an inspiring book replete with personal testimonials celebrating the achievement of one’s own potential. I found it to be a wonderful collection of poems to share with students to encourage them to be themselves and dare to dream big.

This one is not to be missed. A super anthology that I would have missed if not part of the smaller poet communities at Facebook. Poems from Georgia Heard, Ellen Hopkins, Lee Bennett Hopkins, Janet S. Wong, Alan Katz, Laura Purdie Salas, Jane Yolen and others bring together this celebration of faces and figures who dared to dream. . .

Ladder this one up with DREAM by Susan V. Bosak.

Trying something new by not putting up the stars, but this one comes with Mr. Hankins's highest recommendation if yo...more

My biographical poem about Temple Grandin appears in this book. It features 30 fabulous poets including my good friend, Hope vestergaard. The book highlights 15 people who have changed the world. A must have for library and classroom!

An outstanding poetry collection from 30 esteemed children's poets and their notable subjects who changed the world with their dreams.

Good idea in theory- again unsure of audience. Writing is older than the picture book age group.
Edward Sullivan
An exceptional collection of biographical and inspirational poems from a stellar lineup of poets.
