Time to quit the day-job and become a full time writer. A very, very good first book. Looking forward to the next one. Will mark my calendar when I get the date. When will that be by the way?

It's been several days since finishing this book, and several other books read, and I'm still thinking back to this one. So my obsessing over these characters and story will win this book a re-read and possibly adjust up my rating to a 5.

Love the dialog. The Russian accents is writen so well you can hear it!

A darkly charming debut, carving out it's own fresh and distinct path into the wilds of Urban Fantasy.

In this supernatural world of intrigue, hidden in the midst of reality, three factions are on the brink of war: Mages, Elementals, and Darks.

The story focuses primarily on the plight of the Elementals as we follow the fate of Laurie Hudson, a reluctant but exceptionally powerful fire-wielder—which her kind refer to as an 'Incandescent'. Unaware of her her...more

*I was lucky enough to have received an advanced reader’s copy of Incandescent in exchange for an honest review.

First let me say that is this the hardest book to write a review for. Not because I didn’t enjoy it but because the depth of M.v. Freeman’s world is so complex that it is hard to find the right words to do it justice.

Incandescent has it all from a totally kickass heroine to sexy Russian alpha males. From page one; M.v. Freeman draws you in to a world full of Elementals, Mages and a vam...more

The only regret I have is that the trilogy isn't complete and available for purchase yet! So, you take a girl accustomed to our world and thrust her into unimaginable circumstances where what she felt freakish about herself becomes something that turns her into a precious tool for others. What you get is a fast paced thriller which I devoured over the course of only a few hours.

Which brings back the regret. Hopefully sequel comes out soon. Very, very soon.

Full Disclosure: I received an advanced reading copy from the author. She is a friend and RWA chapter mate.

I really enjoyed INCANDESCENT! I thought the world-building was just incredible. It's unlike any other paranormal I've read (I don't read many of them, but I do read them). I was a little worried how I would feel about this book, because M.V. is a friend and I wanted to like it. I needn't have worried. I opened it up to read during my trip to the RWA conference in Anaheim. It kept me occupi...more

M.V. Freeman's Incandescent blew me away. Elemental magic, Russian mafia, and a lot of stuff bursts into flames. Obviously the setting impressed me, but days after I've finished reading, the characters are still on my mind. Laurie, the independent all-American heroine, has no idea she's a powerhouse of elemental magic, but thinks she's a freak and tries not to blow stuff up when she gets mad. Laurie holds her own with the deliciously surly Mikhail, who by all appearances is a ruthless, ambitious...more

it looks like a good book I love the paranormal type books. Idk why but I like the weirdness, the hate, the acceptance, the romance in those types of books. there's always a problem or danger I wish I could have the gifts that some of the people in these types of books have I want to be... different no just invisible which is what I already am. I am hated by so many and liked by so few.. I want to be different not just-me. I want to be dangerous, kind, sweet, understood, accepted, befriended. I...more

Laurie is a cogent fire elemental, an Incandescent, who can not control her ability. She has dealt with her fire power by ignoring it until Mikhail Petrov, a tri-elemental, comes into the restaurant where she works and decides to wreak havoc on her life by forcing her to work for him. Mikhail teaches her how to control her ability while using it himself to gain power in the tenuous political world of mages, darks, and elementals.

I'm not very familiar with these kind of paranormal stories, but M...more

In Incandescent, M V Freeman introduces us to a new world where a distinctive people live amongst humans. Mages, Elementals and Darks dwell within their own echelons with laws and governors that sustain them.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway and am electing to write an honest review.

I really wanted to give this book a higher rating, but in the end it earned 2.5 stars.
The plot was good - three races fighting for control, each with their own brand of magic and their own justified hatred of one another. The characters were compelling and I cared about them.
But I couldn't stay immersed in the story because the writing was so rough. At first I just did a small double-take and attributed it to a...more

I had the privilege to have a twitter conversation with MV Freeman and will say, we are both Crimson Romance authors. However, that didn't sway me at all with my review. MV's book had me hooked from the very beginning - who can say no to a sexy Alpha Russian?

Seriously there was something about Mikhail that gave me shivers, he was just so darn present on the page! My only wish was that we got more in his head because I adored the scenes where we were in his head and I'm a greedy sort of girl, I...more

First let me say, I am a friend of M.V. Freeman. She has not asked me to read this book or influenced my review in any way.

INCANDESCENT is one of the BEST books I've read in a long time! M.V. Freeman takes you deep into this wild, untamed, vivid Urban Fantasy/Parnamoral world where everything is turned up on its head. Living among the humans are Elementals, Mages, and Darks, whose sole purpose is to protect the boundaries set in place by their superiors. Certain characters within these realms vi...more

Okay so i think this is a solid four for me. It took me a while to get through it because i have been busy but my first and foremost review of this book is: its original, or at least in my experience. I haven't read much books about elementals...a few but not a whole lot and i liked how M.V. Freeman did this. I really do. So let me tell you in depth why it got a four stars. The good and the bad. Also i would like to mention that there is sex scenes in here so its probably not best for 17 and und...more

Love the idea of elements as super powers! Also thought that the World created by this very talented writer was interesting, well layered and fascinating. Laurie is a very feisty firebrand in more ways than one, and I really liked Mikhail. He was not overly arrogant, just very confident & masterful. The kind of guy to have in your corner! Loved following their romance and I really hope to see more of them in the next book by M.v. Freeman as I miss them already! Highly recommend this book!

It's been years since I've read urban fantasy. Incandescent is a great reintroduction. The outer conflict between the characters kept me reading, and the inner conflicts of the two main characters made them more "human" as well as want to know them better.

I thought the world building was efficient. No long passages about back story details, but enough information to make it understandable.

Good book, and I'm hoping there's another in the works.

Disclaimer: I know the author. Once I met the fiery, red-haired Laurie, I was hooked. Misha, on the other hand, is the hero that I love to hate and hate to love. I wanted to set him on fire myself but in the end, he redeemed himself and now, I'm a fan. Looking forward to the next installment to see what Mina and Xander are going to cook up.

I liked the idea of this book, and I think with a bit more development, it would have been fantastic. I needed a bit more mythology, and perhaps a chart of the hierarchy involved. The ideas were so fresh and unique, but under explained. I wasn't sure of the chemistry between Mikhail and Laurie...I needed more reason for them to fall in love. He was horrible to her, and her capitulation seemed very sudden. At one point near the end, she mentioned having known him for 6 months, which c...more

Just to let you know, M.V. is a friend of mine. However, she didn't ask me to read or review her debut book. I picked it up because the blurb and an excerpt hooked me.

My opinion: Intriguing world, cool magic & one damn HOT man! Fun, fast-paced read.

Awesome book! I love the characters and I so look forward to the next one! M.V. Freeman does an excellent job with making the reader love and hate the hero. I so love that! Great job indeed.
Susan Taylor
Elemental who is unable to control fire quickly learns few choices mean life or death. Giving in may be her only way to save herself from forces she never knew existed. Fast read, enjoyed the characters, especially shadowy ones.

Mikhail Petrov is everything you love to hate in an over-the-top alpha male hero - ruthless, arrogant, and utterly unapologetic for it. Oh he has his charms and isn't above using them to get who and what he wants, and doesn't that make him a delicious anti-hero?

Much like heroine Laurie Hudson, I wanted to keep hating him. I really did. But then M.V. Freeman had to go and give him unexpected depth and heart which, along with the heroine's growth, made this story so engaging. Packed full of action...more

Read it!! The world building alone is worth the buy! Throw in a funny, strong heroine and an Alpha male with a Russian accent? Why are you not reading yet??
