This was a pretty sweet story. It wasn't dirty, but it wasn't as clean and chaste as a Jane Austen novel appears to be, either. It was a really quick read, too. I finished it in a day!
I think that Nathaniel and Olivia were very well suited to each other, but she drove me crazy by repeatedly calling herself a spinster. If she didn't want to be a spinster, she never would have propositioned Nathaniel in the first place! Psychologically, she really didn't want to spend all of her time alone. She wa...more

Olivia Blakesley is the spinster heroine that decides to seduce a man and get some carnal knowledge before she is totally unattractive and has only a companion's life to look forward too.
Nathaniel Jenkins is the hero. His mother is looking for a wife for him because he is the only son and 39 years old, it is past time for some legal baby-making action in his life.
The Waltzing scene in chapter three is particularly sexy and 'shocking' as well as being well written with a wonderful pacing. I did l...more

I really enjoyed reading To Catch A Spinster by Megan Bryce.
I thought the book witty, charming, romantic, and certainly sensual. The premise was unique; having Livvy (the self-proclaimed spinster) warding off marriage with an iron fist. At times her stubborn behavior was annoying, but I fell in love with her character nonetheless. I absolutely adored Nathaniel.
I definitely will be reading more from this author.
I recommend this book.

A funny novel in a scientific kind of way!
Olivia Blakesley is 27 years old and her one and only passion is astrophysics. Even so, she is now labeled as a spinster by the ton she does not want to die a virgin. Naturally, as a scientist she comes up with a plan to rectify this aspect of her life. After some contemplating her choice for a lover falls on 39-year-old Mr Nathaniel Jenkins. Nathaniel is at first only amused but later very intrigued by Oliver. He would have never thought that someone as...more

I liked the main characters, but the premise was a bit "out there" for a regency romance and much of the book felt like rehashing the same thing over and over: she doesn't want to be a spinster, but she doesn't want to marry. He's a rich, titled gentleman who's intrigued and attracted to her and he vows to win her over. I guess that's par for the genre.
My main quibble, though, was that everyone acted a bit too "modern." Granting the premise that the main character is old enough to know that SOME...more

What a great hardheaded Victorian romance! If you enjoy that period when women were decorative and treated much like children until a strong lady comes along and sets society on its collective ear, then you must read this offering by Megan Bryce. The characters aren't your usual fare and the circumstances certainly scream a more contemporary attitude than most had in those days. I think it's the combination of a real man as opposed to a gentleman and a real woman as opposed to frilly and silly g...more
A very light, easy read, with only one (I think) explicit love scene, so it's a little safer for those who prefer their steam to be implied.
I enjoyed the idea behind the proposal, and I've loved this trope ever since I read my first romance novel involving a spinster looking for some *ahem* tutoring.
I didn't care for the heroine's stubbornness towards the end, and the final confrontation of sorts, while fitting with her character, just didn't really do it for me.
Overall though, I liked it.

Sweet and funny.
Yes, the plot was a bit out there, BUT I read to escape for a couple of hours, so that was okay.
I kept expecting SOMEONE to overhear their conversations about her proposition. Didn't happen...lol
Their banter was enjoyable, although if you are a stickler for things not always fitting with the time period, you may want to avoid this one. There weren't a LOT of lapses, but it might bother some. Didn't bother me.
Yep, cute.

This is an engrossing Regency Romance with a clever twist. Spinster Olivia Blakesley has no desire to marry. She does want to experience romance. She offers Mr. Nathaniel Jenkins a proposition he can't refuse... The repercussions of such an outlandish alliance result in consequences neither of them could have imagined. A delightfully well-told tale.
the story and the H were good but ugh the h..was very very irritating..i wanted to smack her...i am a spinster littany gets old after sometimes as her family esp. mary said...esp since the H was good n loving..she should have been made to grovel a bit more ..there at the end after throwing the H's love back in his face...huh
