This is an amazing novella. It's packed full of goodies -- political intrigue, strong lead characters, danger, and romance. As a novella, it is not a quick read and it's missing nothing. The only sacrefice was the pacing. The story moved fast.
This is the story of Lark, a slave girl, who is trained to be one of the most elite warriors of her world. She is not accepted as a Sister of the Ariane. She does not have the look of a noble who all have silver hair which comes in when they are very young....more

It's always hard to write a review when you have conflicting feelings, and for this book, it's not even just that the book as a whole has a lot of positive and negative aspects, but that I have opposing feelings towards one aspect of the book. If this sentence doesn't make much sense to you, I hope you'll keep reading this anyway and that I'll get less ungarbled as I go along.

I received a paperback edition of this book from the author for me to read in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that it was great! If I could give it a 4.5 stars, I would. Too bad Goodreads doesn't have the 0.5 thing. Anyway, it's a fun fantasy romance to read. It's not too long and not too short. For romance fans, I'm not really sure you'll like this until the very end, since the romance here is a bit slow. Think, "The Scorpio Races" by Maggie Stiefvater. Any novel focusing on swords and sorcery piques my interest. This book is no exception, and it is a wonderful read! This is a story of metamorphosis. The central female character begins life in certain surroundings that she grows stronger from, and she becomes a warrior. The primary male character endures his own set of life changes, but not without an emotional cost. What happens when their worlds collide is a delightful mystery. You must read this novel to discover its magic.

This is an inspiring epic fantasy. I first read this author's Pajaro Bay romance series, so I decided to give this a try. Her first entry into the fantasy world of the Ariane (with many more to come, I hope) is a finely woven tale of murder, loyalty, love, religion, war, and the triumph of good over evil. It is set in a mystical world that was fascinating in its complexity. What a great journey! It was truly a wonderful read.
Fantasy quest/romance. Lee creates an alternative world that is pretty believable, and her characters have depth. The plot's events seemed to flow seamlessly from one to another. The introductory paragraph contrasting the reality of a quest to its ideal was brilliant. I found myself drawn into the story and eager to find out what happened next.
Lark an Ariane warrior and she was on a quest to find the lost prince of Silver Isle. The prince was gone for 15 years when Lark did find him. She did not expect when she found the prince Raven that he would not want the throne. Will the peasant's kill Raven when he returns or the Var warriors, read and find out! I really like this book and want to read the sequel.
I was very excited to win a copy of this book! I was easily drawn in to the mystery surrounding Lark and her belief that the rightful heir to the kingdom survived the attack on his family. I fell in love with Lark, the protagonist. She maintains an innocence about her in a world of corruption and has a very strong view of what is right and wrong. I am hoping there will be more of Lark's adventures to come!

From the first page I loved the character of Lark, here was a strong, intelligent, funny and deadly female lead that so many fantasy's are missing. Here is a woman who has raised herself out of her caste and has lived her life to help protect and do what is best for her home country. Add this to the hardship it takes to do this, her dedication to do what is right and the fight she finds herself in and you get a wonderfully deep woman in an equally wonderful setting.

Ok, this book was a very hard one to read. It was boring and I could literally list all the plot points on one hand and you would still understand everything that happened in this book. The author was constantly beating us over the head with how Raven had to decide if he needed to be king or not with little relief.
I liked the plot twists at the end but it was not enough to make me really enjoy this book.

There's promise here, but the author needs a lot more practice before publishing again. These characters have little to distinguish themselves from the tropes on which they are based, and the setting is generic, with apparently-arbitrary rules for which no explanation is given. Still, with a little bit of refinement and a lot of fleshing-out, this could be a perfectly serviceable fantasy/romance.
I really loved this story. I can not wait to find out what happens after this in the next book. This was a pretty quick read. If i had time i would of probably finished this in one sitting. I love Lark's character in this story. It is nice to see a strong woman in a fantasy novel definitely one of my new favorite novels. I would recommend this story who loves to read good fantasy.
