This short story, set in the same storytelling universe as Lastrapes' award-winning debut novel Inside the Outside, follows Rusty Hankover, a young man who hates his abusive father and loves rich women's feet in equal measures. Excellent, I love Lastrapes writing style and great to read a precursor (and inspiration?) to the wonderful Inside the Outside.

Weird and wonderful at the same time, and also manages to instil a sense of genuine horror without being gory or overly graphic.

More cannibal literature please Mr. Lastrapes!

Foosteps is an awesome short story!!! If you loved Inside the Outside, then you will love reading this story. I missed Timber, so this was a perfect read. If you haven't read Inside the Outside, you better get to it. It's one of my all time favorites for sure. Read and enjoy!

First of all, I want to say that Martin's writing is absolutely pristine, which makes it really nice to read. And, in a nutshell, his storytelling style and ability is stellar. Pristine and stellar. Could be worse. ;-)

"Footsteps" was a great short story! It took only moments to warm up, simmered you good in the middle, and ended with a, "Wait, is that really the end?" I found myself scrolling back a page to make sure I didn't skip anything. This wasn't a bad thing--it told me that I was into it...more

Got this as a free download at Amazon and enjoyed it. I had trepidations as the last horror short story (DIFFERENT AUTHOR) I got was really bad, and not realizing that the story was less than half the d/l, I even paid for it (It looked like a novella). This one would have been worth paying for if I paid for one short story, which I normally don't.

Good news, this was really good. Not just a standard, and I am looking forward to more. Because this is a short story, I hesitate to say much, but it w...more

Lastrapes "footsteps" is definitly a short short story. I had really gotten into this well written book that pulled me in and kept my attention till the end. The end? How could it have come so quickly? I now have to read other books by this author as he is brilliant.

The only downside with this was that it ended too soon. Straight away you're sucked into the main character and his life. The writing is absolutely lovely and makes it a pleasure to read, will definitely be reading others by ML.

Footsteps is a brief tale set in the "outside" where the cannibal killer is on the loose. The writing is excellent and typical of Martin's engaging style, but the story felt incomplete. I LOVED Inside the Outside and was really hoping this short would transport me back to the characters I've missed since closing the book. I hoped it would provide additional insight into old characters instead of introducing new ones. If I hadn't read Inside the Outside, I'm not sure that Footsteps would've made...more

MARTIN LASTRAPES won the 2012 Grand Prize at the Paris Book Festival for his debut novel Inside the Outside.
