That was the problem with English girls - they did what they wanted.
But then again, maybe that was one of the things that made Rose so intriguing...and dangerous to me.

Since the death, no one has made Rose feel more alive than Noah, the Amish boy who lives down the road. For Rose, Noah is perfect and beautiful and innocent in the ways of teen dating and sexuality, he's a complete and total gentleman and values women and modesty. He's perfect in work ethic and family values and cherishes his parents, he's all of this and more due to his Amish upbringing. On the flip side though he is also unattainable, ignorant in the ways of the world and closed minded about things like music, dancing, movies, culture and as the Amish would call it, the ways of the English. But Rose cant help the intense feelings she feels whenever he is near her, she can't help the draw her body feels when he's near. She'll risk anything to see him and do anything to be with him, even perhaps giving up her dreams.

Noah is a good son, he follows the rules and seriously loves his life, the Amish way is the only way and not being a part of worldly culture means nothing to him. When him, his father and brothers are hired to help fix up a house, he meets the family living there and is amazed by the way they act. They openly talk, laugh, listen to loud music and he's shocked by some of their behavior. The girl who shyly stares at him is beautiful, he even feels a deep desire for her that's never happened before, the way her body looks in clothes, the way her hair hangs long on her waist, Noah cant stop the tornado of emotions and eagerly gives in to his temptation. Quickly the two become friends and Noah's family knowing nothing about the attraction, invite Rose's family to special dinners and welcome them into the neighborhood. Those dinners lead to taking the relationship to the next level and losing all sense of himself, Noah begins sneaking away from the community to see Rose whenever he can. They go night riding, sneak stolen glances and take things to forbidden scenarios. Noah loves Rose so much, he'll do anything to see her, and like Rose will even perhaps give up his only security.

Its only for so long that the couple can sneak around before Rose's brothers and Noah's parents find out. Everything falls apart once the community of the Amish catch on and Noah is forbidden to see Rose. The couple is desperate to be together and try everything to maintain some type of relationship. Noah wants Rose to become Amish so he can marry her.......Rose loves Noah but the thought of marriage and becoming Amish terrifies her. Rose wants Noah to become like her, but without an education and no family, he has nothing. Each of them is desperate and miserable without the other and what happens, something no one could have imagined, will change the course of everything for Noah and Rose.

The Amish have always fascinated me, not so much by the religion (which is based in Christianity) but the way they live. Hopkins doesn't go into the religious aspect of Noah's life more so she focuses on the simple way he lives. The day to day chores, the rules and how hard it would be for a young teenage boy of marrying age to leave his community. Without an education past the eighth grade or any money Noah wouldn't make it very well in the real world, with his family he has land, community of support, livestock and everything he needs to have a successful life. This story did a great job of twisting your emotions, I wanted Rose and Noah to be together, but it was almost impossible, each one would have to give up their way of living to be together and the sacrifice on either part was tremendous. I really enjoyed reading this story and while I'm not thrilled with the outcome as of now, I know this is a part of a series, so I can't wait to see what happens when these two worlds that should have never collided, come face to face with its consequences.(less)

The Amish fascinate me. Really, they do. Their rules, their beliefs, their antifeminist ways; a lot of if it actually seems kind of ridiculous, but regardless if you consider them as a cult, or counterculture religion, I can't see anyone not being intrigued by their ways. This is a novel about love: Forbidden love. A love so authentic that I found myself at the mercy of a burning restlessness at thoughts of their relationship's imminent unraveling and collapse.

The relationship that Rose and Noah have is just as wonderful as it is frustrating. It's also genuine; how they deal with each other's different belief system is convincing. Told in a dual perspective, we not only get to see firsthand how they both feel about each other, we also get to understand how they reason their actions, both of them having two contrasting ways of life. This is especially important for Noah's character; I often felt frustrated towards him to tell you the truth, and I'm sure a lot will share this feeling. His antifeminist ways, his controlling nature, his selfish behaviour - in any other circumstances I would have loathed him. Loathed!. However, one can't blame someone for their beliefs due to a culture that is so different from our own. A lot of things that seem absurd to us are simply their way of life to them. The whole Amish culture, very foreign and old fashioned, can seem exaggerated towards certain aspects; even though I may not agree with how Amish woman are treated, I understand that that is how they are raised. Thus, I do not begrudge Noah for his upbringing. Besides, you can see that Noah is a truly nice, kind person who cares immensely for Rose. He's likeable; he's frustrating, but he's likeable. Funny, huh?

Rose is just a naive teenager who fell for the Amish boy. She's the girl next door - in the proverbial and literal sense. She's caring, sweet, naive at times, but what really wins me over is how she thinks for herself. No matter how emotional she becomes, she' s not blinded by love - at least not foolishly. She thinks of her own well being, giving a lot of thought to her final decision. Even though I don't completely agree that it was a smart decision, it's easy to understand with a connection that is so thoroughly felt between her and Noah. Their chemistry is palpable, their love is unmistakable; a story of forbidden romance needs these elements to work, and I can assure you I was completely mesmerized by their requited love.

The romance is at the heart, but there are other aspects that make this novel compelling. The family dynamics between Rose and her brothers, Rose and her father, and the Amish community, are all beautifully captured. There is also a scene with a pained horse that I know will stick with me.

I came into this with no expectations and finished feeling completely satisfied. We do have the formulaic forbidden romance story, but the journey is wonderfully compelling, becoming highly emotional with an interesting ending. There will be a sequel, and I'm extremely curious to see how this will… work out.

Forbidden Amish Lovin,

I've always been pretty intrigued by the Amish. I visit Lancaster, Pennsylvania a few times a year and their way of life has always been fascinating to me. I also love a forbidden love story, so this book was a no brainer for me. I had to read it and it did not disappoint.

This is a story about two teenagers who fall in love. Nothing new in this concept. Except for the fact that Noah is an Amish boy, and Rose is a twenty first century teenage girl. How can these two people, so different from one another ever strike a stable relationship?

I had Temptation only for 2 hours before I started reading it. The description, cover, and the premise were just screaming at me, “READ ME! This is the type of book you want to read right now!” My brain was telling me to just read this one and not wait, so I did.

I had Temptation only for 2 hours before I started reading it. The description, cover, and the premise were just screaming at me, “READ ME! This is the type of book you want to read right now!” My brain was telling me to just read this one and not wait, so I did.

I fell in love with the first 2/3rds of Temptation. I was so wrapped up in Rose and Noah’s story. I just wanted to read, read, read even though I was going on vacation the next day and had more important items to tackle right then. The romance was just wonderful and forbidden and the tension was there. Rose and Noah are super sweet.

Rose had just moved next door to Noah when the story opens. Her mother has passed away within the last year and her father is a doctor and is away at his job a lot. Noah is Rose’s Amish next door neighbor who, from the first time laying eyes on Rose, is enamored with her. I loved watching the two of them slowly fall for each other. I was on Twitter calling Noah a “frisky Amish boy!” I was just loving how these two characters felt for each other.

I enjoyed the writing style of Karen Ann Hopkins. I was feeling so many emotions in the beginning portion of Temptation partly due to her writing. She had me glued to wanting to continue reading the story.

Now let us discuss this last third. I was expecting Temptation to go in a certain way and maybe the story wouldn’t end with puppies and rainbows…I was cool with that. I was expecting angst and even my Twitter friends expected angst and were asking me about it. The angst I was expecting never really showed up. Instead, Noah and Rose decided to act like 16 & 18 year-olds and do, say, and think very stupid things…over-the-top stupid things. I understand they’re teenagers and they are allowed to make stupid mistakes, but what they said and were willing to do to be together was just horrible. Willing to change for someone you love to the point of being unhappy and putting aside your hopes and dreams at such a young age…horrible.

I know Temptation isn’t my book, but I really wish Karen Ann Hopkins would have taken the story in a different direction, since that direction ruined what could have been a perfect book to me. I’m hoping since Temptation is a series and Rose and Noah’s story isn’t over that maybe, *crosses fingers* just maybe, Karen Ann Hopkins can turn their story around.(less)

I was drawn to this book because I was always fascinated by Amish culture, and the idea of a non-Amish girl and an Amish boy falling in love is absolutely amazing sounding! I love tales of forbidden romance, and Rose and Noah's relationship is truly forbidden. I initially assumed that Rose and Noah met during his Rumspringa, but that's not the case. I was drawn to this book because I was always fascinated by Amish culture, and the idea of a non-Amish girl and an Amish boy falling in love is absolutely amazing sounding! I love tales of forbidden romance, and Rose and Noah's relationship is truly forbidden. I initially assumed that Rose and Noah met during his Rumspringa, but that's not the case. I actually liked how Noah was completely in his community when he and Rose are together, since it added to the tension.

Just a word of warning: DO NOT read the preface! I read an ARC, so I'm not sure if the preface made it in the finished copies, but if it did, DO NOT read it! I was so mad when I read the preface, because it spoils a major turning point in the book! I don't usually mind when there's an intro that actually takes place late in the story, but I do mind when it reveals something that huge!

I absolutely loved Noah's chapters! I really enjoyed learning more about the Amish way of life and their beliefs. It was interesting how behaviors I wouldn't even think twice about are considered inappropriate for Amish women, but those same behaviors from Rose caught Noah's attention. I almost wish the entire book was from his perspective, since it is so different than my own. Also, I sometimes find myself annoyed with Rose. Some of her reactions to the Amish community are ones that I'd imagine myself having, but then there are times when she acts like she never knew there were people different from her in the world. Occasionally her thoughts were down right rude.

Of course, Noah isn't without his faults, but he's been raised in a totally different manner, so I could understand his occasional sexist statements. Sometimes I would cringe when he was thinking about his future with Rose, but I don't think he honestly could see what was wrong with some of his ideas. Those moments just made me want to keep reading though, to see how Rose would react when he eventually told her of his plans.

Overall, I loved this book. It did get a little repetitive at times, since Rose and Noah would sneak off together, then have to ignore each other, then Noah would find a way for them to sneak off together again, rinse and repeat. But it was also sweet, frustrating and heartbreaking. After that ending I'm so glad to realize that this is a series! I'm eager to learn more about Noah's community!

I have always been a big fan of forbidden romance since that first moment I read Romeo and Juliet as a kid. There is just something compelling about watching a couple struggle to be together in spite of impossible odds. Not all of these starcrossed lovers end up with happy endings, but I do enjoy rooting for that. Never have I read a forbidden romance like this one though - typical American teenage girl meets typical Amish teenage guy. It's love at first sight, but how will they ever stay together when their cultures clash? The romance and tension in this one make it a delicious read.

Rose is still reeling from the death of her mother when her father moves her and her brothers to an old house in the Ohio countryside. The move isn't a welcome one for Rose, Sam, and Justin - they would have preferred to be left in Cincinnati with their friends and city living - but they agree that a change of scenery might help ease the ache of missing their mother. From the first page, you can see what a tight knit family this is. Sure, they have some issues with one another from time to time. What family doesn't? Deep down though, it is obvious to see how much they each care for one another. Rose is trying her best to feel the void left behind when her mother passed and her brothers are doing their best to look out for her in return. Everything in Rose's world is knocked off kilter when she meets Noah.

Noah is an interesting spin for a YA leading man. He's handsome, kind, romantic, and protective - all those things we've come to crave in the main male character - but he adds the additional element of being Amish. He's everything Rose could have ever dreamed of for herself, but his way of life does cause her to have some apprehension. She knows it would never work out; they come from drastically different worlds. But with a few glances from Noah, she starts to believe that maybe, somehow they could find a way to get to know one another better. Noah also feels the attraction to Rose and he tries to bury his thoughts, knowing that his community would never understand or accept a relationship with an outsider, but her just can't seem to stop thinking of her.

As each teen realizes that the other is suffering from the same affliction of the heart, their worlds collide and a forbidden romance begins. I have to admit that I fell in love with Noah as I was reading this one. I honestly don't know how I would have handled everything. Rose's future is certainly a difficult one. I do not envy the choices she is forced to make and I did have some issues with them. I felt like all the pressure and blame landed squarely on Rose's shoulders which was totally unfair. Nobody ever stopped to truly consider what Rose wanted and what was best for her. They just kept pulling her in whatever direction they wanted her to head. There is one particular part in the end where I lost a lot of respect for Noah; I felt like he was taking the coward's way out. There are more books to come in this series and I sincerely hope that some of these issues will be resolved.

I was so enthralled in this story. I loved both Rose and Noah and that the story is told from both of their perspectives. Their relationship is different from a lot of the other YA romances out there. It showcases a different side to the forbidden love angle and explains some interesting tidbits about the Amish culture. The clash between the modern world and the Amish community was one of my favorite aspects of this book. I have always found it fascinating that such a group of people have managed to hold onto their old ways and values in this day and age. I often wonder how fulfilling life could be if I eliminated all the unnecessary distractions from my life. A simple existence could be such a nice way to spend a lifetime. I soon remembered that I would have to live without the blog and my Kindle so the daydreams abruptly cut off at that point.

This is a perfect summer read! If you're in the mood for some sweet, clean romance and some major culture clash - pick this one up in June. I really enjoyed Karen Ann Hopkins' writing and I'm looking forward to the next book.

One Last Gripe: I was so angry with Noah during his fight with Rose in the hayloft.

Juuuuuuuuust received an ARC! <3 No pretty cover. However, I'm interested to see how the Amish thing goes, since I've never read about it before. The extent on my knowledge is that one episode of FRIENDS when Monica tells "Monica" that she's Amish.

It seems very romancey-Romeo-ey, so hopefully the whole book isn't just weighed down by that.

DNF. Just not for me. Every second thought from both characters was about the other...it gets tiring after the first few times. I just can't find the motiva...more

Rose and her family have just transferred to Meadowview. When a flood makes their journey to their new home rather difficult, their Amish neighbors, eager to make an acquaintance out of Rose's doctor father, step in to help them. But Rose gets more than help when her eyes land on gorgeous Noah, who seems to can't leave the English girl alone either. When their secret romance turns into something more serious, Rose and Noah have to make a choice to either stay together against their respective societies or go back to their own kind, because a love like theirs isn't an easy one, and they may have just took on more than they thought they could.

Hopkins' characters seem to have a mind of their own as character flaws are very obvious. There are just some things that I cannot let go of. As it is, I am critical about teenage romance, especially those that believe that they will be together forever and ever. Any teenager who claims to "cannot live without the girlfriend/boyfriend" earns a raised eyebrow and a harsh bark of laughter from me. But when Rose and Noah lock eyes on each other and decide that they're meant for each other straight off the bat is a bit over-the-top.

Noah got on my nerves at times, especially when he was okay with Rose take the brunt of it. As far as the relationship goes, I seem to see that Rose is doing most of the giving, and Noah is more than content with all the taking. Since Noah is Amish, I get that he will have a lot more to lose as compared to Rose, such as familial and community ties, and financial security. If things won't work out with Rose, Noah will practically be a lone drifter, very much alien to the workings of the modern world. But does he really have to be that controlling of Rose?! Also, Rose's wild spirit is the reason why he was so drawn to her in the first place. If he's going to even attempt to somehow tame subdue her "Englishness", Rose wouldn't be any different from the horses he takes care of.

Rose, on the other hand, is only too happy to spoil Noah. She loves him so much that she's willing to turn back on the convenience of the modern world, her family, and even on her passions in life like dancing. That is a huge, HUGE sacrifice to make for a guy you've only just met, even if said guy is scorching hot and an exceptionally good kisser. Rose is just sixteen, mind you, and she has her whole life ahead of her. She can't seriously be contemplating turning Amish and getting married, just because it's the only way they can be together. Rose isn't even entirely sure where the relationship is headed, although Noah is convinced that it's headed to the altar.

But despite the fact that the only reason why they're convinced they belong together is because of their intense chemistry and the heat that always seems to radiate off them when they're next to each other, I can't seem to look away! I swear I am getting such a kick out of this book for reasons I cannot absolutely pinpoint. Maybe it's the fact that I am a sucker for "forbidden" relationships. Or maybe it's because I found myself fascinated at how different the Amish are. Or even maybe because I keep guessing how long this obsession will last.

But even if the relationship is shallow and off-putting, I am weirdly intrigued enough to read the next book.(less)

He has never met a girl like her, and he wants to know everything about her. Noah loves her spontenaity, forthrightness, beauty, and witt. She is the complete opposite of all the Amish girls he has been brought up with, and around.

I loved the slow build of each setting; baby steps, if you will, that aren't the norm in YA novels today. Stick with the book, Ms. Hopkins is laying the foundation for a wonderful saga. It made each new phase of Rose and Noah's relationship monumental. The secret trysts they had to create in order to be together were exciting, just like new love always is. The major difference were the hardships they had to endure in order to keep their love a secret from the prying eyes of the Amish Community. If they got caught together, the consequences would be detrimental to Noah. Love prevails, and just the thought of a fleeting glance was enough to get them through till the next time they were together again. None the less, they always had to be aware of eyes falling upon them, by anyone in the community. If they weren't careful enough, it would get back to his parents, and there would be consequences to be paid. The shared smiles, the rides on their horses, barely touching one another, would leave them breathless, and the electricity was in the air. These were all moments they looked forward to.  

I loved learning about the Amish history of traditions, mores, faith, values, and detailed accounts about their everyday participation in society. Although a bit backwards at times, with their ways of living, compared to the way things are today, I felt the Amish had a great love for their family, their community, their friends, and one another. Their loyalty was unyielding for those closest to them, especially their mates.
Noah and Rose were wonderfully rounded characters, gorgeous, knowledgable, loving to a fault, daring at times, and clear cut about their feelings for one another. Though Rose loved Noah, and would do anything to please him, sometimes I felt it was at the enormous cost of her own feelings and beliefs. On the other hand, Noah loved Rose, but he was a bit unyielding, though in his thoughts, he perceived that he would do anything for Rose. The controversy at every corner was unyielding, and I felt that Rose endured a lot of self sacrifice unnecessarily. Sometimes, the obstacles seemed unsurmountable, and the consequences outrageous.
As Kahlil Gibran famously said, "Love knows not its depth, until the hour of seperation." This quote rings true, being a tough lesson that Rose has had to endure, at such a young age, with the death of her beloved mother. Rose knows that Noah is the answer to her pain, and her new beginning. The reader has the distinct impression that Rose is broken, and needs true love to mend her heart.

Did not finish.

I don't like giving bad reviews and I wanted this book to work for me, but I can't. I just can't.

The first few pages turned me off, when Rose describes herself as "slim, but curvy in all the right places" and "guys always notice me"... just... no! *cough* Mary Sue *cough*

And the way she views the Amish women I found really off-putting, I hope to God that she changed her views by the end and that her ignorance was purposeful... I also hope the author intended Noah top be just as ar...more

This book begins a series about a typical teenage girl named Rose who falls in love with an Amish guy. The writing really flows and Rose really draws you in as she is "everygirl" dealing with a completely bizarre situation. There romance is forbidden but filled with Temptation. A wonderfully balanced contempary romance filled with many obstacles.

The storyline is different compared to what I have previously read. I’ve never read a story about Amish and must say that it enlightened me on a few things related to this. Hopkins put forth enough information regarding the Amish to enlighten the reader throughout the story without boring the reader along the way. It was certainly interesting.

Noah and Rose were likeable characters. Emotionally the relationship was a roller coaster ride. But no matter what Obstacles were put forth they loved each other and cared just the same. The relationship did move a little quick in the beginning, not really getting to know each other first; however the storyline and romance came through as realistic to the reader. The relationship did come across at times as young and naïve, the lack of communication between the pair often caused a few barriers. But once again this is realistic in first romances and loves.

Noah came across as controlling at times, this I didn’t like a lot. I think due to his beliefs this sometimes interfered with his ways and wished that Rose stood up for herself more.

The author put forth all descriptions well with just the right amount of depth. Everything was well outlined, giving us vivid descriptions that we filled with enough of everything to give us a great visual within the story. The writing was fluent and well paced.

Temptation was filled with suspense, romance and action and I look forward to reading more of this series. I enjoyed the different storyline, and the Amish life was certainly put forth well. Hopkins certainly did put through this well.

I’ve always been curious about the Amish and their way of life. I envy their simplicity whilst knowing I could never really live that kind of life, especially with all those rules and restrictions! So I leapt at the chance to read newly published ‘Temptation’ a story of forbidden love between Amish boy Noah and ‘English’ girl Rose. Rose is sixteen and her mother has passed away during the last year. Along with her father, a busy doctor, and her two brothers, the family move away from the city and out into the countryside for a fresh start and move to Meadowview, near an Amish community.

Rose and Noah meet almost straight away as they are neighbours and their attraction is instant. I very much liked Rose and Noah. Their characters were well developed and I found myself rooting for them although it seems like a hopeless situation, and being annoyed at them occasionally too! It was interesting to seeing the situation from each of their viewpoints as the chapters are told alternately by each of them. Rose is sixteen. She is young, headstrong and passionate and yet naive and simplistic in her understanding of the complexities of the Amish community. Noah, at just a couple of years older seems more mature than his years, having had to grow up and take on responsibilities from an early age.

I enjoyed learning about the Amish way of life and following Rose and Noah as they navigate their way through their forbidden romance, sneaking off to see each other and agonising over how it will work out. It got difficult for both of them as Noah believes there is no other way than for Rose to become Amish and join their community, but Rose believes that she can persuade him to ‘turn English’ i.e. to leave the community for a life of freedom. They have high expectations of each at times, their overwhelming desire to be together seems to throw common sense out of the window and I kind of wanted to shake them a bit. I didn’t expect their story to work out the way it did. I’d imagined it was all going to go horribly wrong – and certainly lots does but even at their tender age true love seems to win through…or so we think. There is a sequel to this book coming out so we can follow Rose and Noah’s story.

Verdict: I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading the sequel when it comes out.

This book was so amazing!
YA books are never the best when it comes to female protagonists having a spine - oh, they'll be feisty and independent but then they'll meet the boy of their dreams and nothing else matters, there are no doubts in their minds, they'll do anything, leave everything behind, just so they can be with their ~true love~.

So when I started this book I was bracing myself, and I kept waiting for the ball to drop until the very last page. But Hopkins may have just written some of the most realistic and sane teenagers in a romance book.

Rose does want to be with Noah, but she's not blindly in love. We get to see her do a lot of thinking, trying to come to a decision, admitting not to even know what she wants, and yes, making some stupid choices (view spoiler), but considering her age and immaturity (which she is always quick to point out herself), all of it felt real. Even her final choice was open ended, she didn't close all doors in her life.

Noah's behaviour, which I usually loathe in male protagonists, was understandable due to his cultural background, and his thought processes were so well-written that I couldn't even be annoyed with him for any of it.

And best of all, there were no judgemental lessons in this book. We get to see things from all perspectives.
It was really refreshing to have Rose's family be so open about teen sexuality and not have the subject just swept under a rug, but discussed rationally. There wasn't the usual slut-shaming or double standards you frequently see in other books (her brother sometimes made questionable remarks, but you could tell he was just being an obnoxious big brother and didn't really mean them).

So, I had high expectations of this book. I did judge the book on it's cover (which was black and white with orange autumn leaves)and from the description on the back, I thought it would be exactly the sort of book I would fall in love with. I've never read anything about forbidden romance or even about the Amish culture. I thought of searching it in the internet but I realized it's better if I learn it through the book. So I was really excited to read this because it's my first time for two things! Though I've heard that it's insta-love, I was still game to read this because I've read some insta-loves which are really compelling for me.

Getting into the story wasn't a hard thing for me. Hopkins' writing is pretty nice and detailed. So I get things in a straightforward kind of way. But despite that, I just didn't feel the characters. I know that sounds weird since I already got the two POVs but then, it wasn't just my thing.

Rose and Noah's insta-love didn't grew on me. I felt like it was all about the physical attraction. I didn't really felt like it was more than that. I just felt that Rose is sort of a challenge and a really unique girl for Noah especially she's an English girl. Same goes for Rose since Noah's an Amish and she's not. You know, like, opposites do attract each other thing. Another is that, they're too young! Or Rose is. It's just so weird. I believe it was all about their stupid crazy teenage hormones!

The Amish culture fascinated me a lot. Their beliefs are so unique for me. And though some of their beliefs fail to reason with me, I respect them. I really do.

Noah being an Amish isn't a bother to me. I respect him and his beliefs but man, he did get on my nerve sometimes. Especially with the way he thinks that Rose will really do convert to Amish for him. That's one of the most selfish things I've ever read of from a boy's POV. I mean, hello! Can't he be a little more gentleman and think that he'll conquer his fear of the outside world just to be with Rose? Also, he's so unnervingly possessive even though they haven't even really had a talk since the first time they met each other. It's so hormones!

Rose is such an innocent 16-year-old girl. Oh my goodness gracious. I pity her for losing her mother. But it's not a reason for her to be such a cry baby. Okay. That sounds so mean of me. But hello, I felt like she cried in every chapter wherein it was her POV that I was reading from. Also, I hate how she acted that her father dated. Does she really think that her dad won't be attracted to others? It hurts to know that your dad has another woman except for your mom. But her mom's dead and his dad seriously needs a life! She irritates me just like his brother, Sam! And I feel like she focused too much on Noah. It's a shame that she didn't even missed her mom more than once or even twice. I also can't swallow the fact that she chose Noah over her family when she is just barely an adult!

I can't talk more of them since I felt like I'd just dislike them more. I finished reading this though I know they'll be together just for me to see what happens. And I still have this hope that I'll like it. But sadly, I didn't.

Temptation is like a manual in learning how to survive a forbidden love of cultures, how to have your first kiss, how to have your first heart break, and how to have your first major decision as a human being. I believe this book is not for everyone! But if you're up to it, try it. I'm not pretty sure if I'll read the next installment though I'm up for other books of Hopkins!(less)

Temptation is one those books that you’ll either love or hate. I completely adored this book. It was a full 5 stars for me but there were some things I didn’t particularly like.

I’ll start with the things that I loved about this book:
I love when books change their point of views between characters, I actually prefer this way because you can read about the other persons emotions instead of just sticking to one person, so being able to read both Rose’s and Noah’s side of the story was a good move on the authors part.

The description and emotion in all of the characters was great! I could picture all of them easily and their emotions were true.

None of the characters lacked personality, each one was different and creative and I especially loved the relationships between Rose and her brothers, I personally don’t have any older siblings, but as an oldest sibling I understand the responsibility in having to look out for my younger siblings and even though Rose and Sam fought and picked on each other a lot. I loved how overprotective Sam was over Rose and I wish I had an older brother that would look out for me like that.
I did have a few problems with the book,

I felt like their love was to instant. All they did was stare at each other for the first time and they were practically married. I don’t really believe in love at first sight so the beginning of their relationship was unrealistic to me.

After they met the rest of the book was just them talking about their love for each other and their parents disapproval, the book didn’t really have much of a plot until the end where more of the action was.
The only other critical thought about the book was even though Rose was only 16; her character almost seemed too childish. It just seemed like there was a huge immaturity level between Noah and Rose, even though Noah’s Amish life style makes him more mature than that of an 18 year old “English” boy.

But even after my critical thoughts I do recommend this book to anyone who’s looking for a different kind of read than their used to. It’s a tragic romance that’s doomed to fail, right?

Rose's mother dies and her Dr. dad moves her and her two brothers to rural Ohio--right into the heart of Amish country. Their nearest neighbors, an Amish family, comes to welcome them and as soon as Rose's eyes meet Noah's, one of the sons, there is an instant--and strong--electrical connection. Their worlds aren't supposed to mix, but they form a forbidden romance anyway. I can't wait to see where this story goes from here.

The characters felt flat to me, with nothing that distinguished them from similar characters in YA. Yes, Noah is Amish and he is interesting because of that, but otherwise there was no real reason I could see for Rose to want him as badly as she does. On the other hand, I feel that most of Noah's attraction comes from the fact that Rose is the first girl aside from his sisters he has had any contact with, and as someone who is not Amish, she is so different the other girls he knows that he finds himself attracted to her. So in short, the world-changing love that Noah and Rose feel for another seems misguided to me and I really don't see it being realistic.

Speaking of realistic, one of the things that agitated me the most about Temptation is that both Noah and Rose believe the other should change so that they can be together. Everything is complicated by the fact that Noah, being eighteen, is expected to marry very soon, and so their relationship has a sense of urgency. Noah is constantly worrying how Rose will fit into his community without ever considering that Rose may not WANT to leave behind her education, family and way of life at sixteen to be with him. Similarly, Rose sees no reason why Noah wouldn't leave his oppressive (as she sees it) way of life and go back to school and get a job. She doesn't seem to consider it such a big deal for him to leave the community he has grown up in and estrange himself from his family, but feels she can't do the same. It is a difficult situation, I understand that, and I feel that adults in the same situation would behave much the same as Noah and Rose, but I still had a hard time reading it without getting frustrated.

The book is written very well - I felt all the urgency that Noah and Rose felt, and when inevitably they were caught sneaking around, I felt the pain of their separation and their desperation to find a solution that allows them to be with one another. I think their romance is realistic and their bumbling, sexually charged encounters are amusing. I could also feel how difficult it was for Noah to hold himself back when he firmly believes that Rose should enter their marriage as a virgin.

Temptation is a good book that deals with some extremely difficult issues and doesn't pretend to give answers to them. Although I feel that the romance between Noah and Rose is artificial, the rest of their problems are real and I did empathise with them. However, I cannot say I enjoyed the book very much because it provoked a strong sense of frustration in me at how Noah and Rose handled their problems. Temptation is part of a series, and after some thought I have decided that I am invested in the characters enough to want to read the next book, but I know I will probably end up fuming again at their decisions.

Temptation... oh yes! That's exactly what it is! I was continually "tempted" to read it... everywhere I went I tried to sneak Temptation out just to read the next page because that is how engrossed I was in this book. It's such a sweet romance and the characters (each and every one) are amazing.
