It’s summer, the heat will eventually drive you to water. Ideally the ocean, but most of us will have to settle with a lake or pool. So if you can’t go to the ocean, bring it to you. What better way to spend some summer nights than with a pirate in your bedroom?

Bound By Decency is a classic, girl gets stolen away by a pirate ship and then has her heart stolen by the dastardly fiend. The first half of the book India is stuck in Cain’s cabin, and though it feels a little slow this is where they get to know one another and emotions begin to grow. How can you not get to know someone if you have to share such a limited space? Then they reach Nassau and the fun really begins.

India is a smart woman, she uses her brains to run her fleet of ships and bring in a decent profit. What she is unused to using are her womanly wiles, and that is exactly what she needs to use to get what she wants this time. It is fun to see her reaction to Nassau in all of its’ colorful glory. She is ready to experience life with out the restrictions society has placed on her, and Cain is right there with her to share her joy and be her protection.

Cain is a pirate. He is good at what he does, he has men that trust and follow him willingly, and he years to leave it behind and return to his more honorable position. You might say he is a pirate with a conscience, and that conscience holds him back over and over from giving into India’s desires.

Bound By Decency is the first book in the Flying Gang Legacy. It is a great first book for a series as you are introduced to Cain, Nightshade, Royce and Drake. All well known pirates and capable captains, and all great characters. Not great as in good people (though there is some good in each of them), but strong well written characters. You will get wrapped up in their stories even as you are carried away by Cain and India. Now we just have to sit and wait to see who’s book is Captured by Freedom.

Bound by Decency is an engrossing read about love and adventure on the high seas. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, their journey to love and the legendary cutthroat pirates.

The pirate Cain is on a mission of vengeance. After two years of living a respectable life on land, he thought he finally had his disreputable days behind him. Now Cain wants Richard dead for his deceit and disloyalty. Unfortunately, his prey went on the run as soon as he escaped the gallows. So Cain kidnaps Richard's fiance, in the hopes she'll tell him where her intended is hiding.

India is nothing like Cain expects. She is bold and full of spirit. And she claims she has no idea where Richard is hiding. While her character is strong, her body isn't quite so tough. She is quickly plagued by seasickness and ends up with a terrible fever that takes her in and out of consciousness. Cain has to nurse her back to health and becomes captivated by her beauty. He gets even more entangled as he listens to her feverish dreams.

It's Cain who India is dreaming about. Well, actually it's Teddy, the alter-ego he took on as Richard's partner. India never wanted Richard, but fantasized about the stalwart gentleman he described Teddy to be. Once she boarded Cain's ship and realized the men were one in the same, her fantasies and dreams finally had a face to go with the name.

After India wakes, she and Cain have a connection. But she fights it, insisting she remain true to her betrothal for honor's sake. This is where the book dragged for me. It seemed to go round and round for some time, with her fighting her feelings and Cain pushing for them to be together, then the other way around. In the meantime, India is learning more about the life of a pirate and all the freedoms it entails. The story follows her and Cain's adventures on the sea, the push and pull of their affections, and of course the search for Richard.

Once they finally get together, the book really gathers steam. After all that waiting, in a way, it made the intensity of their emotional connection more believable. And Lord knows, I was ready for the sex. (It delivers, by the way.) The pacing really picks up here. We meet more pirates. We learn more about Cain's history. Our hero and heroine evolve both as individuals and a couple. In the second half, the book really finds it legs.

I liked India. She was tough and smart... and at the same time, she was human and fallible. She makes mistakes --as does Cain. He was a sexy and good hearted hero, but he did have a bit of emotional baggage.

Overall, I enjoyed the story. I just wish it hadn't taken quite so long to hit its stride.

This was my first Claire Ashgrove novel. With a new author you never know what to expect but as always we hope for a great book. It takes a while to set up the story and lay out all the background for this book. Theodore is a respectable man in society he is also Cain a dreaded pirate. His best friend (Richard )or so he thought betrays him and turns him in as a pirate and he is captured and sent to be hung. India would not betray her betrothed, even if she doesn't like him. Never great at sea, she becomes ill and Cain demonstrates some decency which makes her see him in a different light. Doesn't hurt that he warms her body and makes her ache for his touch. India thought for sure amongst a bunch of pirates she should be scared, but instead she feels free and like she can be herself. As her feelings grow, she knows she will do anything to prove his innocence, even if he thinks it will never happen.

Wow where do I begin.... I hesitated to read this because it is a long book and I feared I would not like it. I never read a pirate book. Then I started and I did not want to put it down. The book held me in it's grasp as Ashgrove captures the readers attention with sexy pirates and a tale of betrayal, trust, passion, romance and adventures across the sea. I was so enthralled with India and her strong will, not to mention her sass and impishness . As well as Cain’s inner struggle with the villain people think he is to the gentleman he wants to be with a pirate’s edge.

Ashgrove not only has your attention glued to the main characters, but I loved the background characters as well. You got a feel for them and wanted to see more of them. I will say she teased us, building up our intense feelings along with Cain and India. You just couldn't help, but root for their love. This couple was perfectly matched, driving me to the edge with the building passion. Cain battling while India decided to take things into her own hands and makes it happen drove me crazy in a good way. When they finally come together, it was explosive and you could let out that sigh of relief you had been holding for pages.

Another character I loved in this book was Drake I'm so happy to see Ashgrove is making this a series. Drake’s meddling personality and mischievous ways made me fall for him and I hope to see him again. Ashgrove has created a definite “worth the read” with this book. I'm betting it will be the same with others in this series, where the leading ladies are just as fierce as their swoon-worthy pirates. I am already looking forward to the next. Cain was once a member of an infamous group of pirates known as The Flying Gang. During that time, he met up with another pirate named Richard. With the help of Richard, Cain had the chance to leave piracy behind and lead a decent, honest life. He renamed himself Teddy and became a respected businessman. Just when Teddy was getting comfortable in his new life, Richard decided to double-cross Teddy and set him up for a crime he didn’t commit. Teddy manages to escape and return to the sea but he has to give up his respectable life and go back to being the pirate Cain.

Cain spends his days at sea plotting his revenge on the man that ruined his life. He decides the best way to get his hands on Richard is by abducting Richard’s fiancée, India. Cain quickly realizes that Richard has also betrayed India. Cain could justify using India when he thought she was in on the deception but now that he realizes she had no part in it, he is at war with himself. As a pirate, he cannot allow his conscience to interfere in what must be done, but the decent part of himself says ruining India is unacceptable. Cain now has to decide if he can be ruthless enough to destroy an innocent woman in order to get his revenge.

There was so much I loved about this book. Cain was torn between the two different versions of himself. He loved living as the good, decent man everyone knew as Teddy, but that life is no longer a possibility. He believes his only choice is to go back to being the ruthless Cain. The time spent living as Teddy changed him, he doesn’t have the stomach for the violence and cruelty being a pirate requires.

India impressed me right away. She is smart, independent and feisty. She is ripped from her charmed life only to be thrown onto a ship with Cain, one of the most infamous and fearsome pirates. I love that she quickly sizes up her new surroundings, forms a plan and then tries to make the best of the situation.

The chemistry between India and Cain was apparent from their first meeting. I loved watching them battle their attraction to each other. That gave their relationship just the right amount of angst as they progressed from adversaries to lovers. I liked them both right from the start and was pulling for them to find a way to stay together. While the romance was great, there were equally interesting things happening in the background. India was plotting her path to freedom while Cain was re-examining his plans for revenge and India’s role in it. I loved the excitement brought to the book by the interactions and skirmishes with other pirates. Getting to meet the other members of The Flying Gang was great and I can’t wait to read their stories.

I found the descriptions of day to day life at sea a bit monotonous. I’m sure there would be a lot of downtime sailing from point A to point B but as a reader I found it boring to read about. One good thing I can say is that the boredom never lasted that long. Even during the boring parts, I could always feel the tension building and knew if I waited patiently I would be rewarded with something exciting. When it happened, I was quickly pulled back into the story. Overall I would say this is an interesting and engaging book, I enjoyed it and will keep reading the series.

This would be my first pirate adventure I have read and it certainly won’t be my last by Claire Ashgrove. A treasure to certainly add to your reader.

With an array of characters, that will not only pull you into the pages, the chemistry between Teddy and India is just volcanic. The romance that Claire put forward was torturous, I waited and waited as I read on... the love grew, the tension unfolded, the passion and electricity was wafting off the pages, until finally, SWEET LOVIN... sigh. ** thr...more

Bound by Decency is captivating pirate’s story of betrayal, trust, adventure and heart stopping romance that will have you on the edge of your set. I loved the passion and the vivid imagination that was added to the story; it made me feel like I was right there in the middle of all.

I loved the strength that India had and how she was willing to risk it all to have love. The same goes for Cain. As you read you’ll see these two really deserved each other and in many ways.
