Julieta’s never been quite right. She likes the company of corpses. She studied vampires in college. She dreams of darkness and cold metal and blood. She thinks that becoming engaged to Michael—beautiful, warm, godlike Michael—might be her salvation. But then he vanishes, and she buys a gun to take his place.

Alec is nothing like Michael. He assassinates vampires, and he sh...more

This is my first time reading something by Reine, though I have quite a few of her books loaded onto my Kindle. I've heard wonderful things about her books so I figured it was time to find out for myself.
Monsters is a really awesome and twisted kind of love story that tugs at your heart and makes you cringe from the blunt violence. I know that last part sounds like a bad thing, but it's really not. The action involved in this is fantastic, thought out and executed with precession. Sure it's blo...more

MONSTERS: A Bloody Love Story (The Bloodless) by S.M. Reine

MONSTERS: A Bloody Love Story is an urban fantasy novella, approximately 10 short chapters in length. The storyline follows Julieta Moreno, a woman who (by day) works as a detective on the metaphysical task force studying the effects of vampire venom and (by night) as an assassin of the Bloodless.

At university, Julieta fell in love with the man of her dreams. Michael was ev...more

Monsters was a different style for SM Reine. This was an interesting well written twist to a vampire romance story. The long rant at the beginning could be better written with a more action packed slant, but is still lyrical enough to be compelling to read. By the time the main character is kidnapped, everything starts happening and the action is hot. Action is what Reine does best, and Monster lives up to her reputation. This story has an unexpected twist that is not like Reine's other work, bu...more

Being the second title I've read by Ms. Reine, I was expecting more of the same writing style as The 19 Dragons. While I did not get what I expected, there is merit in this story but it needs more character development. In reading this I felt as though I had been dropped into a story half-glossed over, details made curt and too cursory to really allow me to develop an affection for any of the characters. I actually felt as though I was possibly reading the synopsis of a much longer, more detaile...more

A vampire-hunting cop with a painful past teams up with a hunter with a past of his own, and find they make a great team.

This is vintage Reine, lots of gore and a high body count — and the heroine isn't spared anything, either. The plot and pacing are well-tuned for a story of this size. If you like messy fight scenes with lots of gore, you're gonna like this.

This was another quick good read by this author. I felt that she could have developed the characters a bit more but that would have only deepened the enjoyment I found in them. This is definitely a storyline I would like to read more of.

Hi everyone! My name is Sara, and I write urban fantasy and paranormal novels as SM Reine. I collect swords, cat hair, and typewriters (which I do use for writing!). It's a good day when those three things have nothing to do with each other.

If you would like to know the instant my next book is available, you should enlist in my Army of Evil! We have a wicked cool secret handshake, but you'll have...more
