I received this book as a Goodreads.com giveaway, and I appreciated the signed copy. The story was very fast paced and read like a Hollywood thriller. It was very short (I read it in one day) and was certainly entertaining. I love a good mystery/conspiracy thriller. But I feel like it could have used more meat on it's bones. Actually, I could have looked beyond the skimpy character development (particularly of Maya and Gabriel), if not for the ending. For a moment, I actually thought that I had...more
This was an interesting novel from a new author. Overall, the word I would use to describe this novel is "vague", but that isn't a bad thing. It's set in a vague pseudo-present time where the government has even more control over the lives of it's citizens (think The Patriot Act expanded and snowballed into a controlled terror-induced mania where "security" outweighs all else). The story line is also vague, all we are given is the immediate circumstances and motivations driving the characters ac...more
One of the great things about this book is that early on, the reader realizes the the protagonist of the story tortures people. This is not your typical main character of a novel. His name is Clay and he is an interrogator for the “agency,” a part of a totalitarian government that appears to be the United States at some future time, mainly because the characters speak “American.” It’s a place where people that disagree with the state disappear, where dead bodies are thrown in trucks and discarde...more
Nicely written, fast-paced action story. After reading the first few pages, I was immediately pulled in and finished it all in one setting. The book isn't too long, just a little over 200 pages and is not paced out in chapters, so reading it is easy and fast. Plus the small spurts of action keep you turning the pages.
The characters are nicely developed, you get a sense of who Clay is from the very beginning and how he floats through his life. Maya, on the other hand is a bit less clear. It only...more

I received this book as a Goodreads.com giveaway. Brian Peters is creative, writes well, and weaves a mysterious tale. The book is a quick read with continual action. This is not your typical "solve the crime" story, and readers who like crime-solving novels with a tidy conclusion may enjoy the read and then feel unfullfilled. This is a story of espionage, but half-way through, I stopped wondering about what the "crime" was about and focused on tne nightmare that was one man's life, and became a...more
** I received this book as a Goodreads first read book.
This was a good debut novel for Brian peters. Like most books should, it kept me wanting to read more, and it was a quick read. However, the book was kind of vague. There where parts that should have been more developed as well as characters that played a part in the book but you never really learn who they are or why they are there.
The book is about Clay who is recently going through a marriage separation. Clay is called to go back to work...more

REVIEW TIME!
OK, so I got this book through a First Reads giveaway. I will try to do it all justice with my review.
First - appearance. The book is quite short, and as other reviewers noted you can read it quickly. I read it in one day - half on my commute to work and half on my commute from work.
Brian did note that this proof had some typos in it, and I appreciated that. There were a couple of places where I needed to re-read a few times to understand the sentence because of the proofing issues....more

What a lovely surprise this book was! It's not my usual type of book but I won it on the Goodreads giveaway and so I gave it a try, and this just teaches me that it's a good idea to read books out of your comfort zone once in a while. I LOVED it and while I've been very slow on reading lately, I just devoured this book whole.
It's fairly short, which at first concerned me because I thought with it being so fast paced this would mean it lost out on character building. I was wrong through, I reall...more

The insert that came with this book does give fair warning that "this isn't a story for everyone". Heed this warning. To Wander the Labyrinth is an intentional terrible book by the normal standard of measurement. This isn't a book I would suggest for an airport buy where you merely seek the comfort and distractions of tropes you are well familiar with. Selecting this book needs to be a deliberate choice to avoid disappointment. This is a different type of narrative than Jumper or I Am Number Fou...more

I found this book to be a very fast read, which is conflicting. The author does a fantastic job of creating a idea, drawing the reader in. Right from the beginning until the end the reader is consumed by the book. The author has chosen an unusual path for this protagonist. We do not have our knight in shining armour, rather we have a protagonist that is seeking redemption for previous actions. On...more

A short novel which makes it a very quick read. While this gives the book the pace it needs for a genre like it I feel the story suffers greatly for it. Everything seems very vague, I understand this could be to portray a feeling of being lost as the main character is always trying to stop himself falling but there just isn't enough meat there to make this a great story. I was all set to give this book four stars, then the end happened, or rather didn't happen. It was kind of like whiplash how suddenly the book ended. Now I am on the verge of two stars. I suppose we'll settle on three, shall we?
First off, I found the synopsis on the back to be highly misleading. I didn't feel like Clay was unstable, dealing with a huge amount of personal and work related stress and self-medicating to try to get through it, yes, but I never really felt his actions were disjointed...more

Book that unfolds slowly, catches up in the middle so that till the end you are completely into the story and stops on the very strange moment after which I felt that I want more, that real end did not happen yet.
An agent who interrogates people has his job to do with a young girl who is connected with a terrorist group. Life is not that simple and they end up running from the government and whoever else is catching them. Exciting, but can't even say where it is ended, who knows, book didn't giv...more

I received this book from the author, Brian Peters, through a first reads giveaway, thank you!
This was an incredibly quick read. I have three children and I managed to finish it in two days. As another review mentioned, it is more of a novella (or long short story). There isn't much character development and it jumps right in the "middle" of a story. I liked this because it started out fast.

I really enjoyed this book.I found myself finding it hard to put the book down. The suspense kept me wanting to read on. The thought of all these things happening seemed as though they were really happening every day. i would definitly I would recommend this to all of my friends. Im wondering is the end or will there be another book. I loved it.
First of the cover is beautiful!!! Dark and mysterious and that's basically the main theme of the book.
Iv never read anything like this so it was a interesting story the start was a bit slow but the pace picked up pretty quickly an I enjoyed the story. So if your looking for a different mysterious read then definately pick this one up.

I received this book in a First Reads giveaway.
This book was full of action from the first page. I felt it was well paced and it kept me reading till the end.
Because it is quite a short book, it didn't feel like there was much room for character development, I think it would make a fantastic longer book. I would love to have heard more about the Agency and the background of the main character Clay.
I think if you love action you will love this book.

Received this book through a giveaway. A little different to books I've read in last few years, I found it to be fast paced and quick to read as other reviewers have noted as well.
I think the story is pretty good, due to its length it maybe misses out on some detail which could have improved the story. Although unlikely, I was kind of hoping that it was going to finish on a cliff hanger which would have allowed the story to continue and open up in a second book... though this seems unlikely.

To Wander the Labyrinth in a very easy, succinct read. I received it in a Goodreads giveaway and was please to find a signed copy and nice thank-you note from the author. In the grand scheme of things, the book was an entertaining but underwhelming read.

In short, this was a mystery thriller that didn't answer any mysteries. I kind if liked the premise, and the whole way through was thinking this is a 3-4 star book and downright impressive for something self-published, but as I got closer to the end, I got a sinking feeling. That feeling you get when there's only 5 minutes left in your favourite show and you KNOW a "to be continued" is coming. And I love a good ambiguous ending. It just raised so many questions and didn't answer any of them. May...more
I received this book as a GoodReads win.
It was an interesting read, a bit disturbing learning more about the torture techniques used against terrorists..as well as the effect it has on the interrogators. It kept good pace but the end was too abrupt, it happened too fast and gave us no answers. It left me disappointed.

This book was won in a Goodreads Giveaway, so I feel compelled to review it - but I have to admit it was not one of my favorites. It was well written, with an interesting take on the characters and all that (the "hero" was a guy you hate: a drug adict, an alcoholic, a dead-beat dad, and a torturer - while the "bad guy" was a girl you immediately feel sorry for, and like) but it just didn't do anything for me. I did like the publisher's choice in medium: the book had an interesting feel to it, wi...more

I just won this book. I will give my review when I complete the book.
It was more of a 3.5. See my review Here.
This book had me in the first few pages. It never let up its slack, great story. The reason I am only giving it three stars is because the ending, in my opinion stank. It never had closure and I wondered if I had missed something and reread the last few pages. I won this book with the Goodreads First reads.
I got this book as a giveaway and thought it was ok. There are a lot of unanswered questions by the end and I think it would have been better if he had a more satisfactory conclusion. My biggest problem is that it did not keep my attention very well, I kept spacing out while reading the book. It is one of those books that would be read the first time for curiosities sake but not read again (for me at least).
