Let's start with Xanthe. We met her in Devil's Gate. She was the one who killed the bad guy. This story starts with her return to Other Land. She is an assassin who works for the Queen (aka Tricks) and her mate Tiago. But after her cover is blown she is reassigned to Tricks' protection. Usually she wouldn't be satisfied with the job - not enough action, but it gives her opportunity to see Aubrey, the Chancellor of the Dark Fey.

I can’t believe this is the last book in the arc of The Tarot’s Journey. I’m very disappointed in myself that this is my first and last chance with this story, however I’m glad I enjoyed HUNTER’S SEASON.
Like I said, I haven’t read the previous books in the novella and although other reviewers said Xanthe and Aubrey appeared in previous books, I think their past/history was given well in the story that I need not to ask. A standalone book really serves its purpose.

I just "discovered" Thea Harrison - you know how they always say "people who ordered this book also ordered ... " , well there were several books by Thea Harrison. I read 2 novellas Natural Evil(#2) and now Hunter's Season(#4). I truly like this author. The characters have depth, the stories are interesting and the world is well defined. I adore Thea Harrison and her Elder Races series. They add a refreshing mix to the paranormal genre. She writes heartwarming funny stories that rarely miss their mark. This is another solid addition to this series.
In this story I’m so glad we got to return to Tiago and Naida’s domain. I’ve missed them and seeing them did my heart some good.

I'm not really a fan of Thea Harrison's novellas but since I've read all her other novellas and this was the only one left, I thought I may as well read it for completions sake.

Very cute, probably the best of the ss so far. This was just a happy story. I love the name 'Xanthe', it brings back fond memories of my younger days reading Piers Anthony fantasy.

What a wonderful love story. I enjoyed this last novella. It answers a few questions I had about those drastic tarot cards. I also got to see my favorite couple again: Tiago and Niniane.

I read this series completely out of order and this novella was the one that got me started; although I enjoyed each book, I would have appreciated the character development and nuances if I had read the books in order. Having read this book first (and ironically all the others in reverse order due to library availability), I was not able to immediately appreciate the author's long-range plot development. Short and sweet.
Most of the time, it's hard for me to get into a novella because of the length of the story. However, this novella was fun to read and the characters were well developed even with the brevity of the story. This is, by far, my favorite of Thea Harrison's three Elder Races novella and I'll tell you why: this is all the about the romance. And Harrison knows how to write romance. --That's not to say her action and adventure tales aren't fun, but in the love stories, she truly shines.

I actually finished this in a day, but never got around to writing a review. I did really like the story though, and thought that it was the best saved for last of Harrison's Tarot connected Elder Races shorts. There wasn't a great deal of conflict between the leads so it was more exploration and growth of their romance and that made it the sweetest romance of the bunch. This is one of my favorite Elder Races novella's to date. I wouldn't have pictured Aubrey as a hero, but he definitely pulled it off. The romance in HUNTER'S SEASON packs a lot of punch, mainly due to Harrison's elegant pacing. She sets up a well written backdrop, then zooms in on the couple to let their emotions develop. A very nice little novella. This was mainly a love story, with very little in the way of "action scenes", but given the length, that was fine. You never really get bored with it as you watch the relationship between two very different personalities bloom. My only complaint is that the heroine's character was better defined than that of the hero. In his case, the author reminds us occasionally that his actions are out of the norm for him, but I never really felt she established the "norm" well en...more
