Lisa Palmer, a widow and single mother, just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. She thought she was just stopping at a rest area to take a small break and grab a few items before heading back to her children. Unfortunately her stop on that particular day would put her front and center in an armored truck robbery gone awry. Witnessing this crime puts her on The Burning Edge, a new suspense thriller by Rick Mofina.

Lisa hated having to put the family's lakeside cabin up for sale.

A novel by Rick Mofina is a joy to behold, and this one is no exception. Opening like a runaway train, the excitement never stops; and this accomplished, prolific author manages to weave in so many levels that all the characters are fully three-dimensional, realistic, and if not always likable, at least comprehensible. His plotting takes in contemporary society, recent history, and even suspicions of terrorism. Mr. Mofina always manages to juggle a large cast of characters, both primary and seco ...more

Driving the 401 between Toronto and Montreal this summer? Scoot off onto the Thousand Island Parkways and stop at one of the scenic rest stops. Happen chance I had picked up this book to read on just such a trip and the militia terrorist robbers in this story escaped to the loosely protected border right in this neck of the woods. They hid in the water as the coastguard checked the mooring of some boats here. Always cool to read a book with a setting that matches your location or at least a loca ...more
This is a fast-paced suspenseful book with an intriguing story. What I really like is that the antagonist is made sympathetic. While deep down you know he's wrong, you can't help but feel for him. Maybe even pull for him a bit. You hate what he's doing, but completely understand why and almost finding yourself hoping he can accomplish his mission. At least until it starts to fall apart and he goes off the deep end.

As with The Panic Zone I really like Jack Gannon. He's a great character, and will
This is an action packed story that has plenty of thrills while also exploring the emotion and motivations of its characters.
Part thriller, part drama, the story revolves around Lisa a witness to a horrific robbery that leaves 4 men dead and Jack, a reporter pressured to get the exclusive on the story for his news-wire job.
Throughout, we follow Lisa as she is forced to relive the scenes in an attempt to remember any detail that may help the authorities figure out who the perpetrators were. Alrea
Jack Gannon pretty much has it all. He has finally reconnected with his long-lost sister (see In Desperation), found out he has a beautiful niece, and his work as an investigative journalist is as solid as ever. The only problem he has right now is that he is a bit lonely and would love someone in his life. His ex-girlfriend wanted to be married to her job more than she wanted to be married to him. Also his new editor at World Press Alliance (WPA) who doesn't know his ass from his elbow when it ...more

Lisa Palmer’s fragile world, a precarious life that revolves around caring for her two young children a year after the death of her husband, explodes in violence when she witnesses a murderous holdup. Four masked motorcyclists ambush an armored car and callously kill the three guards and an off-duty FBI agent who tries to stop them. Lisa is a key witness to the killings, but can the FBI keep her and her family safe from the killers?

For Frank Morrow, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation,
“Jennifer, I love you.” No, this is not a love story. These four words are the last words spoken by a young FBI agent as he lay dying next to Lisa Palmer, recently widowed, single mother. At the request of the agent, Lisa had tried to reach his gun so that he would have a chance at the robbers but the gun slipped and attracted the attention of one of the robbers who immediately shot the FBI agent and held a gun to Lisa’s head. Lisa escaped death but didn’t escape the terror of living through the ...more

What an roller coast of a story. I cried durning the funeral scene and laughed at
Lisa getting back. In between was so into the story could not read fast enough. Highly recommend this book! I will be on the lookout to read more of Rick's books in the future.

An interesting tale of a armored car heist by four ex-military men. I especially liked Gannon, a journalist and what he goes through to get his story and stay true to himself. All the characters and the story felt very realistic. I am very impressed with Mr. Mofina's writing. Once I begin one of his books, I can't stop reading.

It's not hard to imagine how good motives are mishandled when people take them into their own hands at all costs. Mofina makes you live the events from every viewpoint: special ops turned rogue, eye witness turned victim, investigative reporter seeking major scoop, terminally ill FBI special agent wanting to solve one last crime without interference from the press. This was a fantastic book, and I loved the ending. The scary part was the author's note at the end saying the book was based on some ...more
This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride that starts on page one and never slows down. It's told from four different points of view: Lisa, the young mother who witnesses a violent armed robbery and murder. Frank, the lead investigator who relentlessly pursues the killers while dealing with his own personal crisis. Jack, the television reporter who was tipped off about the heist by an anonymous informant. And Ivan, one of the killers. The stories intermingle into a great read. Part ...more
I just couldn't get into this book at all. the book was well written but a little repetitive. and a few things left me scratching my head and saying huh? this wasn't a terrible book I just never got into it.
About a witness to 4 people who were murdered and she was to be next, but for what ever reason he did not kill her. And it turns out the widowed mother of two could help the FBI find the killers, even thou she did not think she could help them. And next up is the investigative reporter who was bound and determined to find out the whole story to beat out his completion. There are the three main people in this story, The witness, the main FBI agent and the reporter. As each are struggling with th ...more

Strong book and excellent story. The ending is weak however and seriously hurts an otherwise excellent thriller.

Another five star read from Rick Mofina. This makes nine of his books I've read, all of them five star reads. Keep it up Rick.
Too many characters that the author tries to follow. Great plot though, and he does well at getting you knowing each character.
For what it’s worth this story was with a quick ending. Few surprises appear after the excellence of military style deaths that happen by its point-of-view from the pursuers, the FBI called in to unravel the crime important to the nation and personal from the FBI. Equally difficult was imagining the mistaken rampage, the pale carnage that some can commit on others that mystifies rational thinking. This is FBI and Jack Gannon’s suspenseful twists to the climaxing ending.
The book started off really well and maintained its pace throughout. The book tells the story of Lisa Palmer witnessing a heist and four murders and what happens subsequently. The book also features Jack Ganon, the journalist, trying to reach the truth about the heist.

While the book was pacy, interesting and written nicely, at the end, I felt that the author was in a hurry to end the book. The climax could have been a bit more elaborate. It was almost predictable.

Rick Mofina is an excellent thriller writer. His background as a crime reporter shows in the way he constructs his stories. The plot of this one centers on an armoured car heist where the thieves get the money but kill an FBI agent and others but leave a witness who has seen a clue that later will prove to be their undoing. A great yarn. Recommended.
A random stop at a gas station on the way home, changes the life of a recently widowed mother of two. An armored truck gets robbed and everyone in the store is forced to the ground. Does anyone actually witness the crime being committed and remember enough to help the criminals get caught?

This novel is full of suspense, thrills, twists and turns.
I did skip a word of this story. I am hoping for the sequel to Jack, Lisa, Felk and Agent Morrow. Felk was a good guy who was betrayed and with good intended in a twisted murderous manner tried to right a wrong. I knew the little knife was going to be the hero of this story.
This is really a good book
FBI agent Morrow is investigating a robbery of an amoured car in which 4 people are also killed.
Jack Gannon is a report for the WPA.
This tells of there investigation.
First book I have read of Rick Mofina and I really enjoyed it
I enjoy reading the Jack Gannon series. They are all easy reads and there are just enough characters that one doesn't get confused. The story line flows nicely and the roller coaster emotions kept me wanting to reach the end of the book.

I liked the storyline from Lisa's perspective but Morrow seemed unlike able as the workaholic. A quick read. I could have done without the Gannon-Lisker drama which appeared contrived. I'll read the author again.
It's been a long time since I've abandoned a book, but after getting halfway, I still wasn't at all interested in the story. Life is too short to read a book you don't like, so I put this one aside.
This was a wonderful suspense novel - at times quite frightening and very realistic.

I love the way Mr. Mofina writes and hope to read many more of his novels.
This was quite a good book, but I really don't like the way they left the most exciting part to the very end, the ending felt rushed, and not complete...

Maybe not his best work, but this is my first book by this author, so I can't really judge. Intrigued enough though to look into his other books.
