Even though I couldn't put this book down while I was reading it, continuing on with trepidation at times, as to what was coming next, I feel the cliffhanger just took all the goodness out of it and left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

I found the first half to be ticking over with nothing too exciting going on but I just enjoyed being back in this world with Evie and Lucas. After the battle at the end of Fated in which the brotherhood were wiped out, they are on the run and head to Luc...more

I’ve been eagerly awaiting this sequel for ages and I have to say I was pretty worried it wouldn’t happen seems as it book two and three wasn’t picked up by Simon & Schuster. Thankfully, Sarah made sure Evie and Lucas’s story was not left unfinished and now we have Severed! Yay, thanks Sarah! I fell in love with this world the first time around and now I’ve fell in love with it all over again. It has such amazing characters, an amazing story and a fantastic forbidden love story and you know I’m a sucker for that. Really what more could you want from a story?

Evie grows so much this time around, she’s determined to fight back and prove herself that she can take down the Brotherhood – even though she does have mini breakdown where she feels like she can’t. However, she changes and becomes stronger and faster and realises that she was always destined to become what she is. And Lucas, strong, brave, gorgeous Lucas that will do anything in the world to protect Evie – even if that means putting his own life in danger. I adore the relationship between these two and if anything, it intensifies even more in the book. I also really loved the new secondary characters, Lucas’s sister, Cyrus and the gang made this book so entertaining and I’m hoping we haven’t seen the last of them.

Severed really does provides everything for every reader. It has action, romance, heart-warming scenes to dangerous scenes and that ending - oh my gosh, I didn’t see it coming! I literally was like “Sarah did not just do that?!” but she did, and it’s left me wanting, no – needing – more of Evie and Lucas. I’m hoping the release of book three comes around quickly because I need to know there will be a happy ever after for these characters.

You see, this is what I love on a series: for the second book to be better than the first one; for it to grab my attention, to keep me on the edge of the seat waiting to see what new surprise will come next; for it to break my heart a bit, to make me feel all different emotions from happiness to despair; I want a book to make me laugh and cry, to hate it and love it with passion, to say: “wow, this was such a great story!”

And “Severed” is that and maybe even more.

I get to cut .5 for that ending. We don't deserve to have that happens to us. Sarah you cannot just decide to break our hearts that way its not fair.
I am not going to say anything about this book. I really hope the fact that shadowed is releasing in early 2013 isn't a joke, I have no idea what to do right now.

I was not expecting that...any of this.

Ok, so I'm going to try and write something that makes sense but I can't guarantee anything, including that this review is free from spoilers, you have been warned.

The new characters definitely made this book even better than I anticipated, and after where the first book left off I was really looking forward to knowing what happened next. It was interesting to see that Lucas has a family, I just never thought about siblings, and even though she's pretty mad...more

I liked the addition of Cyrus, he was funny and I wouldn't have minded him and Evie getting together because at times they had more chemistry than Evie/Lucas. I wasn't quite as fond of the other new characters - Issa and Flic were bitches especially to Evie even though she'd done nothing wrong. They acted like she forced Lucas to fall in love with her. I hate it when female characters act bitchy to the heroine because a guy they know has fallen in love them and of course they think the heroine isn't good enough for the hero and so the heroine has to prove to the heroes friends and family how awesome she is and how much she wuvs the hero..Ugh. It pisses me off that the hero is never judged by any of the heroines friends..the only time he has to contend with the heroines friends is when one of them is secretly in wuv with her. I hate how heroes never have to prove themselves to anyone, not even the reader yet the heroines have to win over everyone because they're never good enough. I despise that the heroes can get away with murder, lying, cheating and general evilness by giving a lame, half arsed insincere apology whereas if a heroine so much as looks at someone the wrong way, they're crucified and never forgiven. What's up with that?
Anyway, the ending was pretty good, I have a feeling that Lucas will turn up in the next book, authors aren't bwave enough to kill of their only love interest. Because in their worlds a heroine can't have a happy ending without her going off into the sunset with a guy — they don't seem to realise that heroines playing the field and being able to sow their wild oats is actually the best HEA ever. This is the most refreshing swoon-worthy toe-curling romance. The best part was the fact that Evie would do anything for Lucas:). She knows how to take care of her man.

Well, Severed was considerably better than Fated. And we were introduced to Cyrus. And, let me tell you, Cyrus is pretty awesome. But if I'm completely honest . . . I'm glad I grabbed this copy of Severed when it was free for Kindle because I wouldn't have paid full price for it. Sad, yes, but true, because I LOVE Sarah Alderson. I really, really do.

Alright, I'm just going to say this up front: I hated the ending. I was so upset I was reconsidering finishing the series.

Also, death is imminent in this story. It's like a constant lingering reminder, the invisible force/fear resulting in such entertaining & thrilling action sequences. Looking for clues, and for people to help give them clues, slows the story down in the beginning as we are introduced to a new cast of characters. Once we meet the bedpost-notching, rogue hunter, Cyrus, things pick up a bit with Cyrus' larger than life ego and one-liners. Evie and Lucas are on the run trying to uncover the prophecy of the White Light. Looking for clues, and for people to help give them clues, slows the story down in the beginning as we are introduced to a new cast of characters. Once we meet the bedpost-notching, rogue hunter, Cyrus, things pick up a bit with Cyrus' larger than life ego and one-liners. He swaggers into the hate-to-love, quick-witted villain role vacated by Shula, though he's on Evie's side. Alderson posted on the interwebs that Cyrus' entry does NOT (thank goodness) indicate a love triangle. Though he does bring tension to Lucas and Evie's love story.

Lucas and Evie spend a lot of inner monologue on the themes of fate, destiny and sacrifice, which was really interesting. But still, I wanted more action. Particularly from Evie. She's set up as this strong female -physically as well as personality-wise. But she only throws a couple of punches in this story. She was very often standing behind Lucas or Cyrus during battles, but there were indications that she could put them both on the floor with her new-found powers.

I was also very excited about the love scene in this decidedly YA work -though maybe it should be cast into the blooming New Adult genre. The love scene is, in fact, there. But don't blink, or you might miss it! Gosh! Does that make me a perv that I wanted to read more about these kids doing the wild thing?

As I indicated, the second half of this book was more to my speed when the action and the ticking-time-bomb shifted into gear. The storyline of this sequel is resolved and then a serious, SERIOUS, complication is immediately introduced for the final book in this planned trilogy. I totally appreciated that Alderson made sure to close one door before opening another. And if you are a fan you will likely shout loud enough for her to hear you in her cottage in Bali with respect to the shape and size of the new door she presented. Personally, I couldn't get past the closing of the initial door. I was unprepared for it. Its completely plausible what happened, but I felt M. Night Shamalyan blindsided by it. Alderson could have put some sneaky hints in there so that when we reflected back on the entire story, we picked up on them and realized what a genius she is. But there were no sneaky hints...at least not that I saw.

Still, I suspect she has something up her sleeve with these two doors opening and closing and some potentially tricky wording in the White Light Prophecy that we think has been resolved. Or has it...dunh dunh dunh!(less)

I can't breathe. Seriously. It ended that way? THAT WAY?

Let's rewind a minute. So we pick up Evie's story as she and Lucas are on the run, unhumans chasing after them and questioning the meaning of a prophecy which includes Evie. I'm not giving ANYTHING else away in this review because I knew nothing going in and I loved every minute.

In Severed we are reunited with the unexpected pair of Lucas and Evie, after everything’s that’s gone down, they’re on the run with who knows how many unhumans after them. But that’s not the worst of it; they still need to find out about the prophecy and how they can bring an end to the chaos. But in the process they end up discovering something they never expected.

I can’t believe it was nearly a year ago when Alderson introduced us to Lucas and Evie, after devouring Hunting Lila a few weeks before I didn’t think any other character could compare. But being back with Lucas and Evie has made me realise just how much of an impression they had made the first time around. I was beyond excited to dive into their world of unhumans again, to see Evie and Lucas fighting their way through everything thrown at them, would their relationship be strong enough this time? I liked the different sides we got to see of Lucas and Evie in Severed. Evie has definitely grown up loads after first discovering she was a hunter. With their lives constantly on the line, she was strong and always ready to go into battle. With so many lives lost previously Evie didn’t want to put anyone else in the same position and so quickly became aware of the risks she had to take, she didn’t dither about in the slightest. In comparison Lucas I was a bit unsure about at first, he had lost the brotherhood and had every single unhuman after him and Evie after what he had done. It took a while for the Lucas I‘d become to love from Fated to come through, but once he was back, boy I couldn’t endure to part from him. Severed also enabled us to delve into a more fragile side of both characters, we were able to learn their hopes and what worried them the most; not having the other are around. It did often result in some heartbreaking scenes which left me with a lump in my throat. But Alderson also takes their relationship a whole another notch, be prepared to swoon girls!

I was also slightly worried that the gap left by characters from Fated; Neena and Risper would be extremely had to fulfil. But my worrying was totally uncalled for as Alderson provides us with new characters which I enjoyed even more and I’m sure will leave a great impression on everyone as they did with me. Cyrus is definitely a character to look at for, he really had made me confused at first, but his cheeky demeanour and totally uncalled for comments around Evie and Lucas had me cracking up. He’s a big character who creeped his way in and had me longing for him and his witty remarks when he never was around.

Despite Severed taking a more serious tone than Fated, Alderson weaved humour into the book well, that I found myself with a huge smile on my face when it was an inappropriate moment. Severed in my eyes is one hell of a follow up to Fated. Fans of Alderson’s work won’t be disappointed, but just be warned after finishing the last page you will be dying to get your hands on Shadowed!(less)

So it's no secret that I'm a massive fan of everything that Sarah Alderson writes and I loved Fated when I first read it last year. At the time I had high hopes for it to turn into a series so I couldn't have been more excited when I found out that Sarah had written two more books about Evie and Lucas. Anyone who enjoyed Fated will be pleased to know that Severed is even better - there is more action, more intrigue, more danger and of course more romance. We also get to meet some interesting new...more So it's no secret that I'm a massive fan of everything that Sarah Alderson writes and I loved Fated when I first read it last year. At the time I had high hopes for it to turn into a series so I couldn't have been more excited when I found out that Sarah had written two more books about Evie and Lucas. Anyone who enjoyed Fated will be pleased to know that Severed is even better - there is more action, more intrigue, more danger and of course more romance. We also get to meet some interesting new characters at the same time as we're catching up with some of the ones we've already met.

Severed picks up the story just after the ending of the previous book, Lucas and Evie went against everything they were taught in order to be together and are now on the run. It wasn't so hard for Evie to choose Lucas as she has only recently learnt that she is a hunter and she has very good reasons not to trust the people who were keeping secrets from her for her entire life. It has been much harder for Lucas to leave behind the other unhumans that he grew up with though, people who he considers his friends are now treating him like the enemy but he can't walk away from Evie and the feelings he has for her. The two of them aren't strong enough to fight a whole army on their own though and end up turning to a group of rogue hunters for help. There is understandable tension between Lucas and the hunters but they'll have to learn to trust each other if they are going to stop everything that is coming for them.

Evie has been through a lot since she the night she was attacked by unhumans and discovered her hunter heritage, she has been betrayed by the people she should have been able to trust most, she has found with love with someone who is supposed to be her enemy and now she is dropped back into the middle of the action as both sides seem to want something that only she can give them. One of the things I liked most about her in the first book was the way she didn't take what anyone told her at face value, she always went out of her way to verify things for herself and make sure her information was correct. I'm pleased to say that this is something that continues into this book and she has only grown stronger and more determined as she learns more about the supernatural world. Her relationship with Lucas did start very quickly but they spend more time getting to know each other in this instalment and they work really well as a team, ultimately they both respect each other though which is something I think is really important. I do love the romance between them and they make such a cute couple!

I already loved Lucas but I now have an even bigger crush on him than before. He is so caring towards Evie and he constantly puts her needs and safety before his own. It took a lot of guts for him to go against his upbringing and realise that Evie wasn't a normal hunter and he earned my respect for that. Now that we've got to know him a bit better he doesn't have quite such a bad boy feel to him and I think that's mainly because he's no longer keeping secrets from Evie about who and what he is. That doesn't make him any less sexy though and these two have great chemistry. Lucas has a bit of competition when they meet up with the rogue Hunters though, new boy Cyrus seems quite determined to take his place in Evie's affections. Cyrus can be very arrogant and was at times a little overbearing but I loved the way he constantly teased Evie and added a lighter note to the story. As much as he comes across as a bit of a playboy I think deep down he is actually quite a sweet guy and although he didn't overtake Lucas in my affections I did develop a bit of a crush on him too. You're just going to have to read the book to see who Evie likes best though!

Severed is a fantastic follow up to Fated and was full of edge of your seat action. The plot is fast paced and fraught with danger and OMG that ending was a shocker for more than one reason! I literally could not believe what happened and I still can't believe that Sarah Alderson could leave us with that cliffhanger! The only reason I'm going to forgive her is that the third and final book Shadowed is due to be released early in 2013, if I had to wait a whole year to find out what was going to happen next I would have cried. I literally can't wait to get my hands on Shadowed, as soon as I get hold of a copy it will be jumping right to the top of my to read pile because I just have to know how Evie's story is going to end. If you haven't started this series yet then I'd highly recommend reading the books in order but they're a must for any YA urban fantasy fan who likes action packed stories with dangerous demons and more than a little romance.(less)

I have to admit, this book wasn't everything I had hoped it would be. I love Sarah Alderson's writing, don't get me wrong, and I absolutely loved her books Hunting Lila and Losing Lila, and of course I read Fated before reading this one. I just thought there was a lot more than there needed to be, like this book was trying to hard to be something it wasn't. Un déchirement que de mettre que 3.5/5 à ce livre, j'en attendais TELLEMENT plus ! J'avais peut être trop d'attente. =(
Du coup je me suis ennuyé pendant la moitié du roman. Trop peu d'actions et toutes sont prévisibles, on sent la fin venir à des kilomètre à la ronde. Bref, j'ai adoré le 1er tome, beaucoup moins celui ci mais on reste dans ma logique des choses : 1er tome super, 2ème tome qui casse pas des briques, 3ème tome qui clôture le tout en beauté =) (espérons !!!)

J'avais adoré le premier livre de cette trilogie et je n'ai pas été déçue par cette suite. Il y a beaucoup d'action et de revirements de situation même si certains sont un peu prévisibles, en particulier un que j'avais vu venir depuis assez longtemps dans l'intrigue. D'autres sont par contre beaucoup plus surprenants, la conclusion est tout simplement horrible et si vous avez la patience d'attendre je vous conseille de le lire plus proche de la sortie du tome 3, personnellement j'en suis encore...more
