I downloaded this from iBooks on my iPhone and figured I would read it because Something Borrowed and Something Blue were my favorite Emily Giffin books.
Very short read, finished in about an hour. It's Darcy's diary from freshmen year through senior year. Doesn't tell us too much we didn't already know but it was good!
Says to be continues at the end... So maybe more is coming?!

This was a really cute novella. Those who've enjoyed the author's first two novels, Something Borrowed and Something Blue, are the target audience, as this is Darcy's diary while she and Rachel are in high school. Darcy's as self-involved as you'd expect, but she's somehow quite endearing, making mistakes that she later regrets and caring about her friends despite all the times they drive her crazy.

I'm a huge fan of Emily Giffin, so it came naturally that I liked this story. Too bad it's so short though. Darcy is...oh well, same old Darcy, the one that has to have it all perfect. It was nice to see what she was up to in High School, guys she dated, the friendship with Rachel (who was even back than super smart and protective).
I don't know how Emily Giffin does it, but I swear to God, I just can't hate Darcy! I just can't! Yes she's shallow, and she's probably everything I used to hate abo...more

I was checking out the top reads on Kindle and came across this short story. Having read all of Emily Giffin's books and loving them, especially the two featuring Darcy, (Something Borrowed and Something Blue) I was excited to see this offered for free, though I would have paid for it anyway because I was eager to take a look into Darcy's past as a teen.

I was so happy to see this book on her facebook page:) It only took me about 30 mins to read it. Also with the free ebook there's three chapter of her new book coming out in July.
I have to say I give this book 4 stars out of 5 stars. Just wait the book not done yet. So more is coming from Darcy diary :) I cant wait for more. But this book helped me with my Emily Giffin withdraw until JULY!!!!!!

Darcy is just the kind of girl I would've been (and WAS!) friends with in high school. At that age, there are the people you're friends with because you've known each other for so long that if you stopped and actually looked at who they were and what they did, you would be appalled, which is why so many friendships don't last past high school.
Knowing the type of girl she is (though, I admit I only knew because of the movie version of "Something Borrowed"), I was pretty sure I wouldn't like Darc...more

This was a cute little addition to the Something Borrowed and Something Blue collection. It was a very short read, I finished it in less than an hour. It is Darcy's diary from her freshman through senior years of high school. It is written in true Darcy fashion. Lots of comments about boys and parties and being popular. And lots of remarks about Rachel being boring and studying to hard and so on. It was nice to be able to "look back" on them in their high school years. I think Emily Giffin is a...more
If this short introduction to the works of Emily Giffin was supposed to get me hooked on her works, it failed pretty spectacularly. Apparently Darcy is a mythological creature that manages to get though her teen years with pretty much no problem. Bulimia? Pffft! When her best friend tells her it will destroy her teeth she's able to stop, no problem! The best, the prettiest, the most popular, the only thing that Darcy has any problem with is academics, but why bother when you're just going to be...more
I got this from on amazon kindle app for andriod so I decided to read it since I've read most of Emily Griffin's books & enjoyed them.
Darcy was a character I was never a huge fan of because she's everything I can't stand about most women. But I figured I would give it a chance. When u 1st start reading it, you just want to smack her. After awhile, you're able to get used to her whiny ways & see the real story.

I love Emily Griffin's work and this was a nice quick read. It could easily be expanded and turned into another novel, as Darcy and Rachel are an enjoyable duo! My one complaint was the location, I understand this is fiction, but being from the area I was confused. It's suppose to be set in Naperville, Indiana, yet everything describes Naperville, IL (a real town). From the high school rivals, Portillo's Hot Dogs (which aren't available in IN), the Ogden 6 movie theater and even the call to Moni...more

But I must say.....ugh! I forgot how much I hated annoying Darcy until I started reading this! I started this all excited but as I read on....again, ugh!!!! I LOVED Something Borrowed and honestly didn't like Something Blue except when Dex and Rachel were involved, and sometimes Ethan. Darcy was a character I just could not get into. Also, this ends right at the part where it would have gotten good! Who doesn't want to know exactly what she was thinking...more

Ugh. This didn't read like a teen girl's diary. It tried too hard. There were too many pop culture and historical references from the time the girls were in high school. It left me feeling like the author was trying to FORCE us to buy into the era..... it was like she pulled up an almanac of 1988-1990 and just puked the list into the story.
But most irritating was that the slang was wrong for the era. I'd expected that since the author was a high schooler during the time period presented that at...more

This short story was available for free on the Google play store, and I decided to give it a try even if I did not know what type of books Emily Griffin writes. It turns out she writes romantic comedies, that it is definitely not what I usually enjoy reading. The main character is Darcy, a gorgeous and shallow girl. The author tries (and sometimes succeed) to make the reader smile focusing on Darcy's shortcomings, on her inappropriate words and actions. Unfortunately I can see many of these as t...more
I finished this book in less than an hour it was really short and i liked the book. I hope theres another book about Darcy, i like Darcy even though she is self centered and im not. Im reading it on my kindle i got it because it was for free and my cousin said it was a good book. im reading the preview for her next book about Marian. The book about Marian is good too. It is about Marian meeting her daughter that she gave up at the age of 18. Her daughters name is Kirby and she went from Missouri...more
The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone is a super quick read. It gives you some insight as to who Darcy, the best friend in Something Borrowed and the main character in Something Blue, was in high school.
It's really sad how shallow she is, but after you read some of her diary entries and learn about some different things in her past, you have a better idea of who she is and why she does what she does.
This was also free on Amazon, and if you're a Giffin fan, you might pick this up. It's not the best read...more

What is the book about?
The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone is a prequel to the book Something Borrowed. Something Borrowed is about Rachel, an attorney and her best friend Darcy. They have been friends forever which is clear by the many times they refer to stories from high school. The Diary of Darcy is showing her view of their friendship during high school.
What did I think of the book?

I picked this up as a kindle free book and I couldn't wait to dive in. I was so excited to read it because I really enjoyed Something Borrowed and I loved Something Blue. I was thrilled to be able to see a younger Darcy. What a disappointment.
The characteristics of Darcy that would turn a person off were in full force in this short book. She was shallow, rude, irresponsible and just plain unlikeable. The writing was engaging and it only took a very short time to read since it is a short story,...more

I just couldn't make myself like Darcy. And I think even if we were closer in age I still wouldn't. In fact, I think I'd like her less. As it is, I could look at her through my 'eyes of age' and forgive some of her attitude and mistakes as being very much like those I made at her age. I notice it is no longer available at Amazon, so I'm guessing that Ms. Giffin took to heart the many reviews suggesting some judicious editing and fleshing out. I think she shows great promise as an author and I am...more
Never having read any of Emily Griffin's books, I didn't know what to expect. After having read this one, I can tell you that I will not be reading the two books to which this one is a prequel. I really don't want to know Darcy as an adult.

This was kind of pointless. All it did was fill in gaps from Something Borrowed ( i.e. the true story of the SAT score and Notre Dame). Part of the charm of Something Blue was reading about Darcy's transformation. I had no interest in going back and reading about when Darcy was at her worst.
I really could have done without this prequel and just gotten the preview of the new book by itself.

Free Book From Barnes and Noble on the Nook.. I thought hmmm ok free Score.. I thought the book looked interested and sounded just the same.. I dove into the book.. It was REALLY short.. It was ok.. I mean it was a diary stand point.. I think there could have been more added to the story but but for a short story it will do.. Boys.. Friends.. and laughs.. It was a light / short/ funny read.. I would try more books from this author based on this little short story.. :)
This was cute and entertaining. There were a lot of fun (and over the top) late '80s references. The story itself wasn't much of anything, but I don't think the author was going for anything complex here. If you enjoy Giffin and you're looking for something strictly amusing, read it. As others mentioned, it says "to be continued" so I'm guessing the author may use this forum again to introduce a new book (snippet from her next book was at the end).
I've read Something Borrowed and Something Blue, both of which I enjoyed in a chick-lit sort of way. So when I saw this "prequel" as a Kindle freebie, I figured, "why not?"
and that's about how it turned out - a "why not?" read. It was light and readable. It probably wouldn't be that interesting to someone who hadn't read at least one of the other books with these characters.
No reason not to read it, but also not a lot of reasons *to* read it.

The Diary of Darcy J. Rhone is a cute prequel to Emily Giffin's Something Borrowed and Something Blue. There isn't much new information revealed. However, the first-person, diary format of a teenaged Darcy does provide a little insight into why 29 soon to be 30 year old Darcy is who she is. It's a quick read, and anyone who enjoyed the saga of Rachel and Darcy in Giffin's first two novels would most definitely get a little enjoyment out of this eBook freebie.
I couldn't decide if I should read this before or after reading Something Borrowed & Something Blue (I was late to the party with both of those!), knowing that this book is a prelude to both of them. I decided to read it first, thinking it would be cool to start the journey with Darcy & Rachel from their youth and read it chronologically. In the end, I liked that I read them in that order (it just suits my personality), but the truth is, it would have been just as good if I'd read it las...more
A diary of a young, teen boy-crazy Darcy J. Rhone told from her own singular perspective has its moments that foreshadow to future books but otherwise, it is dull and predictable with as much as depth as Darcy before life deals her the hand (er, book) where she finally grows up. I almost stopped reading and I am glad I did not because after the short "diary," there is a preview of Giffin's August 2012 book, Where We Belong.
I was so surprised when I saw this on Amazon.com! The Something Borrowed, and Something Blue books are some of my favorite things that I have ever read. We don't get any of Darcy's perspective until she is forced to grow up in Something Blue. As a result we don't know much about her motivation in Something Borrowed. This book was a great way to get inside Darcy's head for a bit. Loved it!
If you were a fan of Something Borrowed and Something Blue, you'll appreciate this short story serving as a diary for Darcy as a teenager. It adds a little more meat to the backstory and confirms what was already hinted at in the original books. Not much substance, but there was a tease at the end that it was to be continued, so we'll see what happens with it in the future.
I wish I hadn't read this. Because, GOD, it was such a waste of my time. Not even my five year old niece would enjoy this.
Maybe it sucked because Darcy was in her teens and... uhm because it was Darcy? Don't know. Going to give the next book in the series a try, just because I liked the movie. Sincerely hope it doesn't turn out like this one. Guess I will find out soon.

A quick read- Darcy's diary during highschool, it gives a quick background to a lot of things mentioned in the Something Borrowed, Something Blue books.... wish there was more especially from her University perspective as that is where a lot occurred and brings us to the starting of the book.
The book says To Be Continued... hopefully there's more quick chick lit
