A human skeleton is the last thing Thea Campbell and fiance Paul Hudson expect to find buried in their own yard. Neither do they expect the town of Snohomish, Washington to erupt with excitement over a fictional pirate treasure the dead man is rumored to be guarding. This is obviously an old murder, and the police need to solve it. Unfortunately, the disappearance of the b ...more

I picked this one up during a free promotion and I didn’t realize right away it’s book four in the series. That didn’t stop me from enjoying the story at all though, the author did a great job introducing the characters without hitting you over the head with recap. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the writing, the dialogue is fast and snappy, the way I like it, and the internal monologue for Thea isn’t too whiny or introspective. We’ve got a good solid mystery surrounding th ...more

Paul and Thea are back in top form. Trying to move a huge rhododendron in their backyard to make way for expanding the house, they dig up a skeleton and with it all kinds of trouble. Friends and family go slightly beserk, from digging up the yard to look for pirate treasure to holding seances. Thea just wants her house back, and she and Paul are having a hard time in Aunt Vi's small apartment. The tensions found in most relationships are obvious between these two lovers, and Schreyer handles tha ...more

Entertaining!

I received a copy of this book from Goodreads Giveway and was happily surprised to discover this author. Although I didn't read any of the previous adventures of Thea Campbell, the references to any past events were explicit enough for me to have a general idea of the situation. The dialogue are often funny and the humorous tone of the whole book reminded me of Janet Evanovich's style in the Stephanie Plum series.
It is a light-hearted read with attaching characters but with a thin p

What to do about the skeleton they found under the rhododendron? And what to do when the skeleton disappears and people keep digging holes in the yard? Try to solve the murder, if it was a murder, but how could it be anything else? Put a hold on restoring the house because the police declare it a crime scene? Yeah, that too. Have a lot of trouble with close relatives. Definitely. Thea takes brief breaks with her horse, but even the horse is acting up. Spend the holidays with a friend and about 3 ...more

I just fell in love with this series recently and was thrilled to discover it. In addition to loving the characters, including Blackie, I appreciate being able to see the development in relationship from book to books. Every plot is unique and awesome; I sure didn't expect the way this on turned out! Loved it.

I've been reading Schreyer's books since the first one came out. Plot, pacing, and style are all well done and professional. Her characters really shine though, and the humor that comes through never fails to make me laugh out loud when reading. Just the title and cover of this one guaranteed I'd read it. And I wasn't disappointed. I'll be waiting for book #5.

An interesting mystery

Another good mystery with a bit of the metaphysical to lend interest. The ongoing soap opera of the lives and loves of the characters is outdone by the mother who is still trying to control her daughter's lives well into their adult years.
