Impeccable writing from the talented Josephine Myles. This book is Excellent… a journey of discovery for an endearing smartarse sub and an irresistible overbearing Dom… loved it!

When you start a book and you get treated to an image of the Dom having George Clooney good looks, wears leather, has tattoos and rides a Harley… Yowza!! you know you are in for a treat!! The tale unfolds from both characters POV, and Ms Myles totally gave us two characters that were both believable and with very disti

The novel length Screwing the System began its life as a 13k freebie story I wrote for the Goodreads MM Romance Group's Love is Always Write event. I hadn't originally intended to write more than that, but as I worked on the short story Alasdair and Cosmo grabbed hold of my imagination and refused to let go. The short only details their first meeting and first scene, with a conclusion that worked okay, but didn't deal with all the issues the characters had raised. Clearly there was an opportunit ...more

3.5 Stars for The Blog Of Sid Love

This book has been on my list to read for AGES! So in an effort to dwindle the pile I dragged my feet and threw myself onto my loveseat, puffing out the biggest sigh. I don’t know why, I just thought it was going to be a chore. Shrugs.

But then this happened …

“So, Mr. Grant, (… ) Are you a hands-on kind of boss?”

“I prefer to keep a professional distance from my employees.”

“So if I wanted to get to know you better, more intimately”—

—“I’d have to fail this interv

4 1/2 Huge Stars - a super über cute and romantic story about two gorgeous men

I started Screwing the System with great anticipation and hope about something really amusing and very captivating....

...and WOW, I got everything! This is perhaps not especially innovative, unusual or grand literature, but it was so darn fun and I want to hug and kiss my Kindle - because I loved my hours with these wonderful cute guys. It's this kind of cozy stories I should read more of

I am such a sucker for a story about two lost souls coming together and finding love and happiness and a sense of completion. We not only get this with this story, but we get a hot, steamy BDSM romp thrown in too! Hot damn, what more could you ask for? I fucking loved this book!

Highly recommended if you like beautiful, powerful men (no twinks for miles!) indulging in a sexual exchange of power, BDSM style, hurt and comfort and real emotions, and OF COURSE a fabulous HEA that will leave butterfli

I’ll admit it, BDSM is not my thing. Most of it frightens me, shocks me, or quite frankly, blows my mind.
I just don’t get most of it.
This book? I got it. I got the characters, and most of all…..
I adored it.

I was tip-toeing around my ‘BSDM assignment’ for our blog week. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, where to look and what to read. I asked around and was graciously directed towards ‘Screwing the System’.
What a surprising indulgence it turned out to be!

It was kinky, but not the creep me out kink. N

The Book Report: Cosmo is a twenty-two year old aspiring musician. He needs, according to Society, a job. He feels that being a musician is a job, albeit one with no steady pay. So, to keep his government largesse coming in, he goes on job interviews...and to keep himself from getting employed, he uses a subtle signal of his Otherness: Wrists he's rubbed raw himself with rope. No one asks him back after he shows his signal of deviance! Well, until

This story is hot! I normally like a little more plot with my erotica, but I won’t complain when the story grabbed me right from the first line and wouldn’t let go.

Poor Cosmo Rawlins is having trouble finding work where he can utilize his musical skills. After getting fired from his last job, he is now interviewing for a position as a “sanitary disposal operative”. One look at Alasdair Grant and Cosmo’s mind was on getting to know him better rather than getting a job.

I loved Cosmo! He was cheek

I liked the book fine, it entertained me pleasantly. I never wanted to quit for something else, and there were zero editing or writing issues that annoyed. The only thing is I was kind of underwhelmed. I didn't feel like I read the story the blurb promised. It's definitely not a poor story; it's more that it's very understated, and there's absolutely no big 'winning back the boyfriend' plot. That whole thing in the blurb about "Until he goes one demand too far, and Cosmo is gone in a cloud of du ...more

Another book for my BDSM & comfort-reread shelf combo. This is a funny, sweet story about a kid from the rough side of the streets, with a talent for music, who hasn't realized how much he'll like sometimes giving up control. And a Dom who grew up tough and climbed his way out, finding that his taste in subs runs to a guy with a bit of mouth on him, and a lot of heart. They work well together, despite all their differences, and the result is this short, fun, sometimes nicely emotional romp a ...more

Yeah this was good, gulped it down in one sitting.

I loved the hot scenes but much more than that the relationship developing between Cosmo and Alasdair outside those. The banter, the confidence in one thing and lack of confidence in another all wrapped up in one package, just like us.

I was not totally convinced by the end scene but that is too little a niggle to take away my fond feelings for the whole.

I never read Ms Myles before but I liked her style in this one and want to try more.

This was so much fun. This is my third book from Josephine Myles and I am a total fan girl. If I wasn’t following her all over social media like some creeped out creeper I would go do it immediately. I love the way she writes, she brings her characters off the page and sets them right down in front of me. I can see each scene play out in vivid imagery without the obsessed detail or drawn out language. She just nails it. Every button that I need she hits it and then some. Okay, off my fangirl ran ...more

'Screwing the System' was a nice read, but it didn't fullfil my expectations. Cosmo and Alasdair felt emotionally flat to me and I didn't feel a connection to the MCs. I couldn't see them in my mind and I had to stop reading a few times because the story didn't have the sparkle I anticipated. Aside from that the end was a little abrupt. I had the feeling something was missing.

Wow, what a treat this one was! Josephine Myles is awesome. I absolutely love her writing style and totally adored her characters. Alasdair Grant is a know-it-all, over-confident, workaholic control freak. In other words, he's DOM. He meets and falls in love with an irreverent, sassy, non-conformist punk named Cosmo. Alasdair is forty and owns his own company, while Cosmo, just twenty-four, doesn't even have a job. Cosmo is a struggling artist--an aspiring musician. Although talented, he lacks f ...more

This would have been 4 stars had I not read the free short. The freebie was packed full of chemistry and raunch and delicious teasing followed by delectable Daddy/boy smexin. This longer version felt like it had pretty much the same amount of all the great things in the short, but spread thin, so what I got was a watered down version.

Not saying it's a bad book because Myles, IMO, is incapable of that. Only that this was, well, mediocre, compared to the brilliance that was the short. I know, I k

This book’s blurb made me raise my eyebrows and go, “Interesting,” with a cheesy accent. I’m a kinky girl through and through, so I was excited to read this one, and with a name like Josephine Myles on it, what could go wrong?

Alasdair was an incredibly hot, yet compassionate Dom, which I appreciated. The books where the Dom is unforgiving or cold hearted leave me wanting. That Cosmo was cheeky and sarcastic was just an extra bonus. Taming the sass-mouthed sub is one of my favorite BDSM tropes, a

This is a sweet book about Alasdair an older (40) Dom taking on Cosmo, a younger, rebellious, musician, as his inexperienced sub. They meet Cosmo comes to him for a job interview, intending to purposely fail so he can continue to collect benefits and practice with his band. I loved the relationship between the 2 MC's and there were some good secondary characters too.

I did feel it ended somewhat abruptly, and that the blurb was a bit misleading about the conflict and Cosmo leaving. There were sev

A wonderfully written book about a Harley riding, Tattooed Dom falling for a smart mouth, music loving sub. Both of these men grabbed at me and didn't let go. The growth of the relationship between them was a joy to read.

The cast of secondary characters rounded out the story beautifully, and the twist at the end was a pure shock to me.

This book was a real winner. I now have to go and look for other works by this author.

I must thank Monique for bringing this to my attention.

I was so excited to read this book as I loved the short (from the 2012 Love Is Always Write M/M Romance group event) that inspired it. Cosmos is a lovely character -- he's all cheeky brashness but has a bit of vulnerability and skitishness flowing underneath the bravado that endears him. He grew up on the rough side of town and seems to be drifting without an anchor. Until he meets wealthy businessman Alasdair Grant. An early attraction reveals common interest in certain kinks and Cosmo

"Hey, Cosmo," Freddie called. He turned back. "Don't you go leaning back against a lamppost dressed like that. Don't want anyone thinking I'm running a knocking shop."

This book set in the UK had me laughing out loud throughout. Such an easy flow to the writing, brilliant characterisation and so so naughty! 40 year old (George Cluny look-alike) Alasdair introduces irrepressible 24 year old musician Cosmo to the delights of submission.

'He didn't whimper. More like a swallowed moan. Oh all right th

Goodish. Though Alasdair has to be the most annoying top ever. I know he's a Dom and therefore suppose to be bossy, but he was just so annoying with it. If someone tells me when to exercise, what to eat, when to drink and demands I follow a schedule, i'd tell them to get stuffed.

I also wasn't a big fan of the insta-love (never am tbh). Two and half weeks together and then declarations of love eternal, Okay?? *rolls eyes*

The one thing I did enjoy about the book was the humor. It has a lot of fun

Keeping this short, the problem with this book is: the synopsis promised way more drama and emotion than the story actually delivered. There was never any real doubt that the MCs would end up together. Instead of rough and conflicting and intense, it ended up just being saccharine, cliché, and superficial. I know, it's a romance, it's obvious that they'll have their happy ever after, but make it a little bit painful, won't you? I like it like that.

I pre-ordered this book because I really have enjoyed every single book from Jo Myles that I have read. This book has BDSM and a touch of discipline and it was not heavy nor did it make you wince. Jo Myles tackles both of these in a fun way.

I really enjoyed this one. It was fun and sexy and just not your typical BDSM story. I fell in love with Cosmo right away and totally enjoyed his humor. Yet he was very sexy as well. I loved the fact that these two threw the Master/Sir stuff out the window and found something that worked for both of them. That pretty much set the tone of the rest of the story for me.

The writing was wonderful, and the sex scenes were smokin. This ended rather abruptly in my opinion but maybe that's because I jus

Screwing the System has many elements to love. First of all, the D/s pairing which stays on the light side of the BDSM spectrum. This comes along with a bratty sub and an overbearing Dom, who both are more than just a cliche of those circumscriptions. Both characters are

What a great balance of characters in this one. I love when an author can take what you think would be a stereotypical relationship and blur all the lines.

This is a story about Cosmo, a younger bratty sub and Alasdair, the older bossy Dom. But, this one really showed how human the characters were, they weren't just playing at roles or playing games. They really did need each other. They kept their depth even while in a scene and didn't follow all the "rules" you usually read about in Dom/sub st

I really liked this book (stayed up WAY too late to finish it) and both of the MCs: two men with strong personas coming together and overcoming their weaknesses. There was something about the D/s relationship that didn't completely work for me. There were subtle signs that Cosmo's submission was more than just physical but it is the exploration of the psychological aspects of submission that always fascinate me and that was missing here a bit. Also, although I loved Cosmo's character, I din't al ...more

“Alasdair yanked a pillow, shoving it under his arse. "I think you'll find I'm a heavy but remarkably fit and supple git, thank you very much.” He spread his legs wide open and leered.
“With real self-esteem issues.” Cosmo deadpanned.
“I will have if you don’t hurry up and make love to me.”
“Make love?” Aww, that’s sweet.”
“Less talking. More shagging.”
“Yes, boss!” Cosmo saluted with his free hand…”
