Good and entertaining, but it could have been freaking awesome.
I'm actually a bit disappointed because there was so much potential here. Dark and scary and kicking assery awesome. Unfortunately, it falls into some well-trodden tropes that a 'mean' editor or beta reader should have red-lined. I mean really, evil secret government military experiments?
This is a romance. Terrific, but for all that is holy! stop with the repetitive, 'oh, he's hawt', 'oh, he's so sexy, what a fine ass', 'wow, what an...more

Wow. Truthfully, shapeshifters have never been my favourite read no matter how popular and hot they are written but Mina Carter made this right. Lillian was a very entertaining and funny heroine. It was truly a pleasure reading about her. She made the gruesome scenes with the reanimates or zombies looked so funny. Determined to fight and be strong even though she was quaking and shaking like a leaf.

The plot to this story sounded great, the reviews are pretty good and I didn't check out the reviews like I should have, because even with those two things combined this book had serious flaws. Now mind you, I did finish this book and in the end it was worth it and I may even read the next one to see if the author has learned from her mistakes. I actually blame the beta readers for not bringing these things to the authors attention.

I loved the concept of the book. This is a world where a virus made by the government can turn you into a Blood, Lycan or a Zombie. Right up my alley and it has romance. For me though, this book fell short in the romance department. Half of the book was spent in a huge battle against the government and I really don’t know how the hero and heroine even fell in love, lust that I got but not the love. Lillian was also the most understanding and accepting girl, in the space...more

One of my favorite genres is instant mating with an Alpha Male hero. I was so excited I found this book on a whim while finding another book. I bought it based on some good reviews with Alpha Male heroes and was compared to Lora Leigh and Laurann Dohner. Two of my favorite authors. What I like the most with this series is the only thing similar to The Breeds and New Species is the characters are experienced on with another species DNA and sexy alpha male heroes. What I enjoy most it that aside f...more
What you'll find: werewolves, vampires, and zombies. Practically the holy trinity of paranormal romance these days, but one must admit it's a potent combination when crafted by the hands of a skilled writer.
Mina Carter, for instance, is a shining star that helps guide paranormal beings out of the treacherous void of melodrama, poet shirts, and misplaced sparkles. She brings things firmly into the here and now with this book about military experiments gone wrong, wisecracking werewolves toting as...more

Lycanthropes, Vampires, and Zombies. Oh My!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked up this book as I’ve never read anything written by Mina Carter (“Carter”). After reading “Perfect Mate,” and thoroughly enjoying it, I can tell you that she’s got a new fan.
Unlike the familiar themes associated with paranormal novels, Carter pulls in paranormal elements (lycans, vampires, and zombies), creating something a little off the beaten path. In doing so, she successfully keeps the reader engaged and...more

Great world building, great characters and wonderful romance. Two pesky things made me knock a half frog off but still well worth the read.
What I Liked: Jack and Lilly were excellent characters and their romance just delicious. Lilly would have every right to freak out at what happens but she maintains a wicked sense of humor and strength of character that I just loved. For instance, when faced with a zombie attack she yells, “these are new pants, asshole. I’...more

I enjoyed reading this novel. It took a bit for me to get into it, but once I got a 1/3 into the book or so, it was a page turner.
I did think that the novel had an abrupt ending to Lillian and Jake's situation. I feel as if the next novel might be about another member of the pack and his/her mate (honestly, I have no idea). I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to read about that, but I think there needs to be a continuation to Lillian and Jake's story. I mean, how does Jake deal with his decisio...more

It was just awful! The moment I realized the book was finished and I would have to wait for the next in the series to be written I wanted to throw myself on the floor kicking and screaming.
The way Mina Carter used words to share this story was amazing. I didn't just read it, I felt as if I were a part of it. When Nia discovered the coffin shaped cage. The first time Darce scents his mate, the perfect one just for him. Especially the way Lilly and Jack become a couple. I still don't like Zombies....more

I figured it would be something similar to Lora Leigh's series however it was original and nothing like it which is what gave me the incentive to move it from one star to two. However, that being said it moved far too quickly. It honestly moved so quickly that I made zero connection with the characters. Most of it left me confused or just detached, I did NOT finish the book. It is an extremely short read but I could not find any urge to read anything more of these characters. I loved the cover...more

When she goes into check on him and is almost raped by one of the armies’ doctors she finds out that the man is not just a man but an alpha werewolf. He saves her then he lets the rest of his wolves free an...more
Ok, starting off…Prior to starting this, I didn’t know it was book one of a new series. All I knew was that it had paranormal elements, the hero sounded hot and there would be an instant connection between Lillian and Jack.
This book starts off great. You are immediately dropped into the action with Jack being brought into the hospital…and there’s an instant attraction for Lillian to Jack. But after getting Lillian & Jack’s POVs, you get another person’s POV…Toni. Initially, I didn’t like th...more

Lillian Rosewood manages a psychiatric hospital. A seemingly critically injured soldier is wheeled into the secure wing. When she goes to check on him, he is fully healed. The soldier ends up saving Lily from a rape that sets off a chain of events, which will have them fighting for their lives against beings that she did not think existed. This has her questioning what is real, including her new intense attraction to Jack.

Zombies. Never thought I'd willingly read a book with them in it. Not usually my thing. However, I. Loved. This. Book! This is my first from this author, and it won't be the last. The plot was pretty non stop and the writing was great! I really liked the new take she took on the werewolf/vampire and ZOMBIES! theme. Hello! it was great. I kinda wish there had been more sexin in it though.... And there better be a second because I will be very sad if there's not! Ms. Carter has a new fan in this g...more
*phew* Found a comment here that this was the case - there was no indication that it will be a series.
But this way the ending makes more sense - looking forward to see the open storielines resolved. Sounds Darce and Antonia's book will be next :D

I liked the idea but there wasn't really an end. I guess you could say it was rushed but it ruined what up till that point had been a decent story. If she does other books in this story arch it might help. I enjoyed the characters but I hated that it would switch back to Antonia. Antonia and Darcy really need their own book. I'm not sure I will be reading anything more by Carter. She has great ideas but lacks in finishing the last third of her books.
What can I say well it was an unusual book but I have to say I Loved It!I gave it 4 stars as it took me a couple of chapters to get a better umderstanding of the story. There were really funny bits, bits that made me cry(like when Antonia had to kill Garry, tears streamed down my face).I loved the all the characters in the wolf pack and at some stage hopefully if there is/when there is I will love Antonia as well.Hopefully there's a book 2!
I really enjoyed this one. A different take on vamps and wolves. But I absolutely hated the zombies. They totally ruined the story for me.
The zombies also made no sense. Why have these things running around killing everything when humans are so much more efficient.
Because of that I will not be reading any further books in this series, if there is one.

I thought this one sounded interesting, but as I started to read it, it reminded me too much of a couple other series with the same basic premise. I will say that this one is more bloody than the ones I have read. I didn't really like the characters or how they treated the vampires, lycans, and zombies. In the end this one just wasn't for me.
I wanted to love this book but it left me wanting. There was a ton of action but little in the build up between Jack and Lillian. Usually I'm all about instant mating in a shifter book but they usually build up emotions and you don't really see that in this book and that makes me a sad panda.

Overall it was a great read with a ton of action and some suspense. A very original plot amongst scifi/ub genre. I will more than likely pick up the next book in hopes of feeling the love connection more.

I liked the story. I wanted more..... More character development....more cohesiveness to the two stories being told....more believability to the instant love between the lead characters.....just more story! I think this could have been great if the story was twice as long and developed feelings between characters just a little more.
So this was an good read. But I had problems with it. The first problem was a huge chunk of this story was given to a secondary character who did not even tie in to the orginal one till toward the end. I found reading her parts frustrating and soon got to where I was skimming those parts thus making this story shorter in doing so but it was so irritating to be constantly taken from the main story line. Though I do understand her story was simply being set up for the next book but still it took a...more
I tried to finish but this but it didn't hold my interest. I think it started when a good deal of time was spent on a secondary character the vampire Major Antonia Fielding. It irritated me I just wanted it over with so I could read about the H/h. I understand why she's got a lot of page time it gives you details on the "project" still didn't like it though, it could have been saved for a book about her. I was just detached from the story so I gave up around chapter 7 and called it a day. Think...more
Probably a 3.5 star read. I liked the idea and a lot of it however there were some things that ended up being a bit too coincidental. I also thought the heroine moved from shock to acceptance and comfort too quickly. I will probably check out the next one because this is certainly set up in a series.
The thought that vampires, lycanthropes, and zombies are all created by drugs was pretty neat.
