When one of your very good friends wholeheartedly recommends a book or series as one of her favorite contemporary romance series, you pay attention, yes? Which is why I didn't last long before picking up Laura Florand's THE CHOCOLATE THIEF after Chachic brought it to my attention a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if I would have discovered Florand otherwise, and I am just really happy that I did because this book is delicious. That cute cover doesn't hurt i...more

Libro appena finito.
L'ho trovato, intenso e delizioso.
Ambientazione e personaggi davvero suggestivi e indimenticabili.

Sylvain Marquis knew what women desired: chocolate. And so he had learned as he grew into adulthood how to master a woman’s desire.

How’s that for an intro? I love it!

Is there really a chocolate thief in this story? Sure.

Christophe stared at [Sylvain]. “Doesn’t that make you happy? A woman thief sneaking into your lair to steal your chocolate? Don’t you want to hide out here overnight to try to catch her en flagrant délit?

Sylvain opened and closed his mouth. Yes. He did. “I think we might be a li

2 ½ stars. Story outline was lovely, but I could not enjoy it because I was repeatedly angry at unknown French words.

I am happy reading French as long as the translation is placed immediately after in parentheses. But that did not happen. Every time I saw a French word, my first thought was will it be translated? A few of them were translated a sentence or two later, but 95% were not. It kept taking me out of the story. The French words occurred about every second or third page. I took a college...more

Cade Corey, heir to a multi-billion dollar fortune, whose family makes the mass produced chocolate bars sold in every supermarket in America, wants to establish a gourmet chocolate line, and she wants the name of a top of the line French chocolatier to help her sell the enterprise. As Sylvain Marquis is the most sought after and famous French chocolate artisan, she offers him the chance to make a fortune, and he turns her down flat, outraged at her impudence. Having worked his way up to become t...more

I picked this book up because I love France and chocolate. I didn't realize it was a romance, which I don't really read. But I do enjoy a good chick lit book. I think this one fit more into the Chick Lit category than romance. It wasn't simply about the main character, Cade Corey, finding the right man. It wasn't formulaic like a lot of romances are.
The first page was offputting. Seriously, I put it down, disappointed. Then a few days later I tried again and I got sucked in. This morning, I fini...more

The first four to five chapters made me think this book was going to be an utter waste of space, but both characters got significantly less annoying once they started sleeping together. There were still a lot of moments where I wanted to chuck it at a wall for being sexist though.

Also, if you're curious what some of the earlier stuff is like, I've summarized it for you here:

"And then he used his manly sex hands to chop sexy chocolate like sex. The sexy curls of dark chocolate sexily dropped to t...more

I completely enjoyed reading this book. It makes me want to go to Paris and visit the entire place that were mentioned in the book. I love the way the author brought everything into the book. You actually felt that you were there experiencing the city along with the characters. I fell in love with how the author put actual French words into her book. It made the whole experience of reading the book more enjoyable. I just had to look up a few words that I d...more

Laura’s ability to write characters that you sometimes love and you sometimes hate is out of this world! Sylvain and Cade often made me so mad when they tried to hide or deny their feelings for one another. Their relationship was a love/hate ordeal and it was so amusing and often times frustrating to read. I was thinking to myself, “OK, you both just need to swallow your pride and admit to the other that they are all you can think about!!” I loved watching their relationship develop and I can ho...more

Reading The Chocolate Thief by Laura Florand was a beautiful tour for my eyes and taste buds. Even if you don’t like chocolate, know nothing about the French language, or ever dream of handsome Frenchmen, you will fall in love with it all by the time you finish this story. I love how she is so detail-oriented with her descriptions of the makings of chocolate (from the descriptions of the tools used, the French words sprinkled throughout, to th...more

Aku baca terjemahan yang bahasa Indonesia-nya. Covernya warna pastel.

I LOVED THIS BOOK from start to finish. I have never been to Paris, although it is on my list of Top Ten "Bucket List" Destinations, and I am NOT a choco-holic, by any stretch of the imagination, but reading this book makes me want to cash out the savings account, pack a bag and then pack on the pounds as I eat my way through every piece of chocolate in the hero's chocolate laboritorie.

The best romances (I think) are the ones where the hero and heroine initially don't "like" each other, but are...more

This book will leave you eating insane amounts of chocolate! At least, that’s what it did to me. I’m not kidding when I say that half way through, I went to the store to buy chocolate- and not just a bag of Kit Kats and Reeses’ Peanut Butter Cups (although I did get those)- but really good chocolate, like Lindor. And for some of you, Lindor might be equivalent to Arbor Mist wine, but I like Arbor Mist.

Cade Corey is the heir to a chocolate empire, Corey Bars, in the US. A company...more

I found this book via the SBTB site and their notification of it being on sale.

I think I'm safe to say that only in France (or possibly more specifically Paris) would a guy think it was sexy that a woman had broken into his shop and stolen his goods (chocolates). There was no outrage, it was a sexy invitation rather than an invasion.

I really enjoyed this book. At times the flow felt a bit stilted (and this was not due to languages) but once I was in the story I was hooked. I liked how the author...more

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS!!! Lots of chocolate, the worst spy/thief in the world, a really great pairing, so very trope-y, great makeouts, awesome side characters. So yeah, based on that alone, I loved it!

Some of what I really loved: their first hook up in the chocolaterie, both being chicken and insecure and not knowing how to deal with it, them slowly growing and getting to know each other and TALKING TO EACH OTHER, and them changing their lives to fit each o

This book was a little bit like a train wreck for me. I wanted to look away but I couldn't because I wanted to see the extent of the damage and hoped it wouldn't be too bad. I'm guessing the use of French was intended to help put the reader in a Parisian frame of mind but as I don't speak French all it did was distract me.

It's not often that I don't like the main characters of a book but I really didn't like either one here. I find it hard to believe that bazillionaire Cade, who is so used to t...more

This is one of those books that I wanted to love, but I just couldn't quite do it. It's set in Paris and the plot revolves around chocolate, so it sounded as though it could be enchanting. However, I just couldn't get into it all that well.

The heroine, Cade Corey, is heiress to the Corey chocolate dynasty. Her family has made billions marketing cheap, low-grade chocolate bars but she is in Paris because she has a new idea. She would like to start a new, more upscale line with a chocolate artisan...more

Uhm hello can we say sensual as heck?Damn! I really loved the idea of the heroine Cade being seduced by chocolate. And Florand's execution of the plot is spot on. She also gets the right mix of sensuality, humour & disdain in these characters. They are so well written I could see them as real people in real life. I wonder if she based Cade & Sylvain on real people? They both have their egos & their defenses to scale before they finally get together. As the reader you really want the...more

Here's what I loved about this book: the setting and the characters. Florand manged to perfectly capture the French snobbery and arrogance (in a charming way), the beauty of Paris and the French language, the experience of living in a different country and feeling completely overwhelmed and out of place yet at home too. It definitely had me dreaming of taking a long trip to Paris and hitting up some chocolate shops (Florand even includes a list of her favorite shops in Paris at the end of the bo...more

Nonostante le scene hot siano p...more
