I thoroughly enjoyed this book - the concept was very different fom anything I have previously read, but it was well written and the characters were well developed. Alyssa is a college student, pretty much flunking her way through when she meets Evan Beauman, or Beau as she calls him. He's everything she's not - sexy, charming with a daring sense of adventure. Alyssa is a college student, pretty much flunking her way through when she meets Evan Beauman, or Beau as she calls him. He's everything she's not - sexy, charming with a daring sense of adventure. She dashes off to Paris with him, where he reveals his true self. This was the part that annoyed me the most in the book - why would anyone run off to the other side of the world with a man they met just HOURS before?! He could be a madman, serial killer, pimp, anything. I certainly wouldn't have trusted him, but Alyssa did and she could feel some electricity between the two of them, so despite all her fears she went.

On a night out, they are "mugged" and Beau is stabbed, dying in Alyssa's arms and when asked if she would give her soul to save him, she does so immediately. Only he wasn't dying. He was a soul collector for Lucifer himself and now so is Alyssa. She hates what she has become and tries to fight it, but without taking souls into her, she becomes weak, looks gaunt and is wracked with pain, along with the claws of hellspawn trying to grasp at her. So what does she do? At first, she takes what she needs and then she discovers that evil people, whose souls are condemned for hell already are probably the better choice, but are they??

The story jumps to 3 years later and Alyssa has accepted her situation, but is still not happy with what she is and what she has to do to survive. She meets Seth, an angel, who is supposed to be hunting soul collectors. He knows how Alyssa feels and she makes a deal with him to stop Beau, only her plan never quite works and when Beau turns another girl into a soul collector, who does enjoy what she is and does, Alyssa knows she has to stop them both even if it means she will die in the process.

By chapter 3 I was hooked! I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down! The book is very well written by Jessica Marie (I just read 50 Shades of Grey and was annoyed how limited the author's vocabulary seemed to be except when she threw in a "big" word from time to time). I would reccomended this book in a heartbeat. Enjoy this book! I can't wait to read more from Jessica Marie!

I loved loved this book. I can not wait for another one. The characters were so in depth - I loved them and hated them then loved them again. Once I started I couldn't put it down! There was just the right amount of romance and action that made me want more :) I seriously recommend this book to all.

OH MY GOSH.

I am in love with this book. I honestly can not explain how much I enjoyed this book, it was so refreshing to finally find a book I literally couldn't put down. A Collection of Souls is one of the best books I've read in awhile, ignoring the grammatical errors I found every once in awhile it is well worth either using your once a month prime free rental on amazon or paying the .99 cents. Alyssa and Beauman are both likable characters, at some points in the book Alyssa is a little whiny but in all honesty I feel like if I was in the same situation I'd act the exact same way she did in the beginning of the book. (view spoiler) Beauman has that bad boy kind of vibe in the beginning of the book and it doesn't take long for readers to discover he really is a bad boy. Although he is evil and has some serious issues I still loved him as a character. (view spoiler) Although Wren didn't have a huge, huge part in this story I was drawn to her from the beginning, I'm not sure why I just really liked her as a character. (view spoiler)

I'm sorry my review consisted of so many spoilers but so many good parts of this book need to be read in the actual book and not on some review. It was a very good book and some day I'll be reading it again! I'm definitely going to check out more of Gilliland's work! (:(less)

This book was a solid 4 stars for me. I really enjoy Jessica Gilliland's realistic character voice. This allows you to truly connect with the character, whether or not you like them. Her dialogue, both inner and conversational, are both very down to earth. This lends a nice flow to the novel as it progresses.

This allows you to truly connect with the character, whether or not you like them. Her dialogue, both inner and conversational, are both very down to earth. This lends a nice flow to the novel as it progresses.
Another part of the novel as I whole that I enjoyed was Gilliland's classy way of introducing the intimacy of the characters. She concentrates on the emotions of the situation instead of the physical aspect, and the balance is perfect. It doesn't leave you wanting more information on the intimacy, and it doesn't leave you cringing because it was too much information.
I found the main character, Alyssa to be a bit annoying and whiny at times. She went through a tumult of emotions ranging from lust, to what she thought was love, but obviously wasn't, to pure evil and guilt. The character seems naive to me, and constantly plays the victim card without doing anything to change her circumstances. Guess what though? She finally gets some brains at the end of the novel and does what is right. The other characters in the book are also lovable and hate-able at the same time. Beau is painted as handsome, evil and a giant arrogant jerk. It works perfectly for his position in the world. The beginning of the book puts you right in the midst of the action, but it slows back down about 40% through and stays slow until about the last 30%. At that point it picks up and gets a bit confusing because it speeds to the ending.
*Spoilers*
The main character again, goes into insta-love with the angel Seth. There isn't much build up of their relationship, so when she ends up thinking she would sacrifice herself for him--Well, I didn't really think that was plausible. In the end, it ends up not having to do with Seth, but instead with the realization that what she has done is wrong.
Overall, the book for the most part, had me turning the pages in quick succession. What really kept me reading was the author's realistic writing. This drew me in more than the actual story line.

As I write this, this book only has 18 ratings - something is very wrong here, this book is phenomenal.

So Alyssa meets Beau, falls for him, turns out, he's a soul collector for Satan and thus, we have a story. I liked the concept, it seemed very different from the norm - and oh, it was!! I regret buying this only to buy and read two books ahead of it, it deserved priority, it really is that good.

Alyssa(Allie)Montgomery, a college student, who is really down on her luck and is more than ready for adventure. Allie is being forced out of her apartment and has no place to go. Allie just wants to get away from it all including her life. Allie's life is turned upside down when she meets Evan Beauman(Beau) when he comes to see Allie's old apartment. Allie is instantly attracted to Beau. Beau wants Allie for his collection and will do anything to make it happen. Beau sweeps Allie off her feet for the adventure of a lifetime. Little does Allie know Beau wants something from her that can never be replaced~her soul. Beau is a soul collector and he's turning Allie into one. Allie fights being a soul collector with all of her being which infuriates Beau to no end. When Allie collects Joseph's soul she makes him a promise to get away from Beau for good. One thing you don't do as a soul collector is being found by a Reaper. A reaper will take all the souls Allie and Beau have taken and they go to hell. Three years has past since Allie became a soul collector, she's not bothered by collecting like she was in the beginning yet she's not happy with her life either. She feels that there is an attic ghost which brings her comfort and hope. The attic ghost is really a collector hunting angel named Seth. Seth has been watching Allie for the last three years. He finally allows Allie to see him. Yet Seth has a mission for Allie one in which he hopes she takes. Seth wants Allie to stop Beau from collecting souls that are on a list that Beau has. Allie asks if Seth is crazy but he stands his ground. Will Allie take Seth's mission? Will Beau and Allie collect the souls on the list? Does Allie really love Beau? Does Allie really want to collect souls? Your answers await you in A Collection of Souls.

Good or bad doesn't come into play when dealing with souls. Yet are you willing to bargain for one? That is exactly the question asked in A Collection of Souls. I really enjoyed the dilemna that Allie constantly faced when taking a soul in order to keep herself from going to hell. Allie wasn't wired into taking souls like they were candy as Beau did. Beau loved and hated this about Allie yet sorta came to accept it for what it was. I had a love/hate relationship with Beau. He truly seemed an evil monster at times where I just wanted to choke the living daylights out of him. Then there are the times where he could be incredibly sweet, kind, and loving towards Allie. By no means is Allie an angel in this yet she still seems to have her heart intact. Take a chance and read A Collection of Souls to decide for yourself.(less)
