Another wonderful story about a young boy learning the meaning of loyalty, friendship, and dedication. I loved being in the world of this story and learning about Paso Fino horses. Instead of going for baseball, our young hero, who prefers the comfort of the mares!, chooses the old way--the horses--in an effort to prove himself equal to his older brothers. Great for ages 9 and up. A classic horse story, a classic growing up story, a classic family story.

Don't remember if I read this before or after moving to California - I think maybe before, but not sure. I found it in the Goleta Public Library when I was home from college one summer and re-read it then - it holds up.
