Graphic Novel. Here we pick up a Russian agent, make a stop in Kansas for some astronauts, and then have a two-issue tangent with a group of thespians.

This is another reread, and it stands up to it well. I really liked Natalya and the astronaut storyline. I could have lived without the theater troupe -- it was just too meta and in-jokey ("Not unless the owner's named Brown!" and "I'm the last man, shouldn't my name be more...Shakespearean?"), but I think it might actually...more

Even when I disagree with some of the plot points, this book is still such a joy to read. The man story focuses on Israeli soldiers finding Yorick in the middle of Kansas just when a failing Cosmonaut space station's going to crash land there. Hooray for coincidences and multiculturalism! The action towards the end gets a bit confusing, and I was dismayed by the conclusion (the Israelis' story seems the most unlikely), but, again, it's a fun read.
The backup story (illustrated by Paul Chadwick is gre...more

Here's the thing with Y: The Last Man... I think Brian K. Vaughn's plot (plague kills every male on Earth save one dude and his monkey, they have to find out why while staying out of harms way) is interesting, I like the characters (insecure escape artist Yorick, mysterious Agent 355, brilliant and smarmy Dr. Mann), and Pia Guerra's artwork is just gorgeous, but for some reason, all the parts don't come together into a particularly compelling read for me. I'm certainly curious enough to follow ...more

Natalya Zamyatin joins the gang as the Israelis close in. The third volume in the Y: The Last Man series is good but it doesn’t quite hold up to the first two, in my opinion. That’s not to say this wasn’t a total page turner and I’ll definitely read more of Vaughan’s series.

But one thing; Vaughan's use of the word "retard" bothers me. There are perfectly good words in the English language that can be used instead, like "idiot," "moron," or wh...more

Another awesome installment in a kickass sci-fi series. The plot line is getting a bit more scattered as new sub-plots are revealed and played out, but I'm still loving it.

Yorick and co are on their way to intercept an incoming space shuttle that might contain more surviving males. With in-fighting amongst the Israeli military, and lots of cunning/luck on the good guys part, Yorick/355/Ampersand/Mann weather more conflict (with their snark fully intact!).

There is also a very cute bit...more

The dialogue is improving, not trying to be edgy or force intelligent material. The discussions of heavy matters are much more interesting. The plot continues to come along in a compulsively readable fashion, such that I read this volume in one day - couldn't stop myself. New characters are fleshed out just enough, and the book has hit a good stride in creating fun little moments that are highlights of each chapter (humorous sexual temptation, writing the first new play of the period, an escape ...more

Another great chapter in the Y: The Last Man series of graphic novels. Yorick (the only man left on Earth) and the rest of their motley crew continue their trek across the U.S., pursued by several groups that want Yorick for their own ends. They are sidetracked when they learn that the astronauts from a space station that was in orbit during the plague are about to make landfall in Kansas -- and there just might be two living men among them.

Why must all graphic novels incorporate Shakespeare when they're trying to be grand? Whatever. At least this one also went for Pirates of Penzance, I think. I don't know; I was skimming because I was already so annoyed by Stepford Nebraskans. What people who know fuck-all about NE don't realize is that the women here are pragmatic and no-nonsense, not shrill, stupid stereotypes.

I like this one, even if its story is a little gimmicky. The Israeli's return, some action occurs. Good stuff. Your tolerance for this book probably depends on how you feel about a real gotcha of a twist towards the end. Really, astronauts? I’m not even sure that’s physically possible.

This series gets better and better with each volume. Not only does this expand on the relationship between Yorick and 355, it also draws to a close the plot lines involving the astronauts and the incredibly irritating Israelis. Great stuff. Oh, we also learn Yorick's mother is an idiot.

Another great plot twist... what if there were men left in space? And the man-plague hadn't killed off their sense of chivalry? The theater story at the end of this collection doesn't quite work for me, but the main storyline in this book keeps the suspense moving.

Not much to say that I haven't said about the first two books. Good premise, good execution. This book also contains a diversion away from the main Yorrick storyline to cover what's going on in the rest of the world, which I find quite interesting.

Can you imagine a world without male species? Men, animals, plants.

Don't let your kids anywhere near this comic book novel. It is awesome but definitely not for kids.

Once you start reading you cannot put it down.

What the heck, I should be used to reading comics out of order.

Anyways. Cookie monster! Ampersand as Hamlet! Crazy, crazy thespians! Did these really come out way back in 2003? Sheesh.

The story picks up and some of the drama becomes less, well, dramatic. The creators waste less energy with dramatic gestures that have little impact.

The art work is pretty good.

The book's nod to Mary Shelley & theater (as well as the Israeli story line) was a good break from the heavier relationship between Yorick and his sister.
