Why the hell did I read this again? No clue. Wait, now I remember - for the same reason anyone else did. I was at an airport and wanted to read something less tiresome than the usual newspapers and magazines. Before I finished the first sentence, I expected to leave this novel behind on the plane with the plastic headphones and Sky Mall catalog, never to be seen again. Yet Katzenbach won me over and I found myself not only enjoying the story but trying to cast the movie this novel is so clearly...more

Audiobuch--"Der Patient" --I didn't know whether to give it 5 stars or not, because the idea that someone would do that to Dr. Starks just made me MAD at first.

What first caught my eye was the title of the book. Afterwards was the author's previous occupation, so I figured why not? Eventually I was truly glad I purchased The Analyst.
From the very beginning Dr. Frederick Starks seems like a very beguiling and intriguing character. A man in his early fifties of high and unique intellect, who has lost his wife and deals with slightly demented people on a daily basis. And right after a short introduction and assessment of who he is, what he does and how he...more

¿Hasta donde tu privacidad es realmente segura?

The best-selling author or Hart's War did not disappoint with THE ANALYST. I felt as alone, helpless and solitary as the protagonist as he advanced further into the terror of a very real cat and mouse game. Dr. Starks, a professional psychoanalyst, receives a threatening letter from a Mr. "Rumplestiltskin" demanding that he guess his real name within 15 days. If the good doctor does not guess or guesses incorrectly, Mr. R. will start killing off the doctor's relatives. Mr. R. will let the doctor...more

I can place "The Analyst" in the list of those precious books I will never forget
It is a terrific psico-thriller with a creepy tint, the intensity of a blockbuster every step of the way and the power to get deep enough to probe the functioning of the deep recesses of the human mind
It is so well written that you can perceive rather than learn the different array of emotions exuded by his main dynamic character throughout all the pages from beginning to end, and for m...more

Remember that somewhat twisted fairy tale known as Rumpelstiltskin? You know, it starts when a poor miller tells the King that he has a daughter who can turn straw into gold. The greedy King decides to put this to the test and gives the maiden until morning to spin a room full of straw into gold – if she is unable to do so, she will die. Hopeless in her task, the maiden is surprised when a troll-like man enters her tower and offers to help her. …With a price of course! After she gives the troll...more

Y ERA ESA MISMA! DIOS!

Recommends it for:
Anyone who loves a well-paced thriller.
This might be one of the best thrillers I've ever read. Read the first half well before publication, under a different title, then lost track of the book only to come across it in paperback in a shop several years later. I'd never been able to get it out of my mind, and I was SO relieved to finally be able to see how the story ended - and it was better than I could have imagined. The story of a psychoanalyst - classically, a man of thought and not action - forced to take action to save himself f...more

You'd think my first experience into adult works would be met with a lot of wishing I didn't pick up the book in the first place. And I was wrong.
This was unlike anything I've ever read before. The detail was immaculate. Perfect. Even the plot was believable.
Ricky had to go through so much just because of a mistake he made in his younger years. You felt sorry for him. He gave up his LIFE just to appease someone else *cough* psychopath assassin *cough* You wouldn't have expected the book to end a...more

really enjoyed the book, dr ricky starks is stuck with a threat, which means he has to kill himself or one of his distant family is killed. he goes from being a predictable dr, to a scared victim, hunted, his reputation destroyed, his finances drained. all the while being 'helped' by virgil and taunted by merlin, then there is a twist, a fantastic twist, it showed me what i have always believed, that when one door closes another one opens and just because things seem to be going bad, it strength...more

“Page turner” is the correct description for this enthralling mystery. I found myself stealing time to catch a few more clues, fall down a few more rabbit holes. I was distracted by the constant use of the word “macadam,” instead of pavement, but that’s just an observation. Descriptive tangents, going on for paragraphs, could have used some pruning, but if it got too drawn out, I just skimmed a bit till the action started up again. The descriptions were important, to set tone and scene, but some...more
