The author encourages the reader to learn from the author's mistakes, but also encourages the reader to experiment and learn from the reader's own mistakes.
I read the library copy, but this is a book well worth buying and reading many times.
As I read the book, I felt that the author was a kindred spirit.
If I were going to have a gardening buddy, the author would be on my short list.

Good book for helping set up a perennial garden. Very practical but labor intensive.
Lovely book. Just a long conversation about gardening, thoughtfully illustrated in pencil and occasional watercolor.
On a personal note, I could read books like this and The Edge of the Sea all day. I only wish that meant I could also remember what was in them. Still, this is one to return to.

The Self Taught Gardener: Lessons From A Country Garden - Sydney Eddison (Viking 1997)(635.9). This book is a great overview of the planting season and the required tasks from start to finish. My rating: 6.5/10, finished 4/19/12.
