"BATH TIME!" calls out the pirate mommy. "ARGHHH!" answer her little pirates. It's time to walk the plank for these two pirate pretenders. To the refrain of "Yo ho, yo ho, it's off to the bath we go!" the pirates and their mommy make their way to a bath full of ships and suds and even a pirate rubber ducky. After all hands on deck have been soaped and swabbed, it's time fo...more

Gavin's recently developed an interest in pirates. Admittedly, he's a little confused about the exact nature of pirates--he keeps pointing to the illustration of Mother Goose on the cover of his nursery rhyme book and labeling her a "pirate"-- but Mom and Dad find pirates fun too, so we're eagerly embracing this new trend. Of the several pirate books I brought home from the library, he instantly latched on to this one as a favorite.

The storyline is simple. A mother gives her two sons a bath, du...more

Clever illustrations (did you notice the rubber duckie with the Pirate eyepatch?) and a sing song text containing a smattering of pirate-speak made this an instant hit with my toddler audience. Pirate Mom (sorry, I just couldn't bring myself to say Pirate MOMMY) and her two little pirates just have too much fun at bath time. It almost made me want to follow along with them singing "Yo ho, yo ho, it's off to the bath we go" and jump right in behind them. Every page is filled with smiles. And afte...more

Funny little bath time book!
I love how the Mama Pirate says something, and the boys answer back!
Very inventive how all the little bath time tasks are tied into pirate tasks!
I personally love having the ice cream at the end, but it may be because I'm not a parent and I love ice cream a little too much!
Fun illustrations too!

Haiku Review:

The repetitive and rhyming text in Bubble Bath Pirates encourages playfulness and increases a child between the age of 2-3’s print motivation skill, by making reading a fun and playful experience. Relating the shared reading to a real life situation, the child is physical and health development is nurtured through the practice of playing, reading and talking.

Kind of cute, kind of funny, but...I don't know. I think I expected more from this somehow--more whimsey, more humor, something. It's just a story of kids taking their nightly bath and getting ready for bed while pretending to be pirates. It's definitely one that kids might enjoy, but it's not one I'd want to read over and over again to my child.

A cute story for finding a creative way to make bathtime fun, especially when kids don't want to stop playing for the day. Lots of pirate jargon makes this a great read-aloud, and the chocolate fudge ice cream ending is humorous to parents as well!
Jackie
Short and sweet and full of pirate imagination...Bubble Bath Pirates makes me want to sail the salty seas, too! Especially if I get chocolate fudge ice cream at the end.

Used for "Pirates: Arrrggg, Mateys!" Storytime-June, 2010.

A fun story about bath time as two kids pretend to be pirates. Definitely good for a younger kids story time b/c there is less text here then in some of the other books I've looked at. The text has a nice cadence to it.
Paula
bright illustrations about two boys who are taking their bath as pirates, with all the pirate characteristics
When pirate mommy announces bath time, it is yo ho ho and to the bath we go for her little pirates.
Kristen
It was fun to say all of the pirate words in here, and the kids seemed to have a lot of fun with it. I always like to use books that show imaginative play in them, and this was good for that!

JJK getting better at writing and illustrating. Kid will love this because they can use their imagination to take a bath like pirates, too. I love the warm color in the kids' faces.

This fun little pirate/ bath time book was so great! I read this book to the PPCD classes and had them repeat the pirate phrases. So fun! They really enjoyed this book.
Jessie
Cute little book that gives me motivation to be a more creative and fun mother with every day activities. My 2 1/2 year old liked the new use of words "Yo-Ho" "Plank" "arrgh" and etc.
Valerie
Shiver the timbers of both toddlers AARGH! and preschoolers MATES for any water, splash, pirate themed programs.

Wonderful read aloud. Rubber duckies, bathtime and pirates, who could ask for anything more. Fun word play!
Nicole
Cute. A fun way to turn bathtime into a game, complete with lots of pirate lingo...

Maybe it's just fun to read a book where you talk like a pirate the entire time.

It was fun, but the illustrations and story were just so-so.

Funny little bedtime story. My kiddo CRACKED UP! :)
Jennifer
Blimey! What a great read-aloud for your little mateys!
Randall
The boys where pirates in the bathtub.
Bree
Easy to read to a 2 year old, love the pretend play to get a little one to take a bath, and the illustrations were cute.
Samantha Penrose
Lots of pirate jargon...fun for a little pirate lover...
The story itself was not that much fun. The scenerio didnt make sense to me...why would you offer your freshly bathed, naked kids chocolate fudge ice cream?!
Argh, Ive read many books better than this one!
Krista the Krazy Kataloguer
This would probably inspire kids to play pirates in their own tub. I didn't like the artwork in this one as much, and the story was so-so. Little kids would probably like it, though.
Gretchen
Youngsters will love this story of the pirates and the pirate mother as they take a bath--I just wondered why pirate Mom gave them chocolate after the bath?
