This book started much like the first two. Allanon, the Druid, returns to seek help from an Ohmsford in some sort of quest that will save the world. This time, he needed help from Brin, Wil and Eretria’s daughter. Brin and her little brother Jair inherited the Elven magic in the form of what they call a “wishsong.” Brin can use to wishsong to actually alter the world, whether it’s to change the color of the leaves on a tree, or as she comes to learn later, to kill in order to protect herself. I wasn't a big fan of this third and final book in the Shannara trilogy. While it isn't necessary to read the first two books before this one as it can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading them just for some background. Actually, I'd probably read the first two and skip this one as it is not nearly on level with them.

This story starts out almost identically to how the first story starts out, and it had me worried a bit at the beginning. However, it soon does reveal itself to be more than that, and there is a reason why there is somewhat of a re-occurrence of problems this time around. The pacing in this book is a little faster, and there's a good balance of description to dialogue this time. I remember one excellent description of a forested valley in the Westland that really caught my attention late in t

Woo finally finished.
I found the book completly amazing right from the start and found it difficult put put down once both Brin and Jair had started off on there seperate and dangerous adventures, just everything about it was amazing the character profiles the detail in which the landscapes where described, all the emotion between the strange relationship that grew between both Brin and Rone and between Jair and Slanter and the stronger connection of love that grew between both pairs, not t More...

Dork it up, 80'2 style!
I liked the simplicity of the first book, Sword. It seemed to be standard fantasy fare, a big quest, unlikely heroes, princely guardians, amassed armies of good and evil, a mysterious and powerful guide, an ancient object, a dense history. Great stuff.
As I started the Elfstones, I noticed that it was the same thing with different advantures. And the author just continued the unlikely hero line down the Ohmsford line. Fine. Maybe he could have branch More...

This is the third in the Shannara series that I got for Christmas, and by far my least favorite. The characters of Brin and Jair were soooooo boring. At least in the other books I thought Brooks wrote a few good foil characters, and of course the action was good, but in this one there were no good contrasts; and the action parts were few and far between long "journeying" parts.
Wishsong was a chore to read, and for about a week I questioned my love of reading, which is sad. More...

Ah, what could be better than curling up with a nice cool glass of wine, on a hot humid night, with an action packed Fantasy epic...not much! Ok, ok, if that is not your ideal situation, but, for some reason you find yourself in that exact scenario The Wishsong of Shannara is the book to have in your hand.
This is the third book in the original Shannara series, following the mega hits The Sword of Shannara and The Elfstones of Shannara. If you like the Sword & the Elfstones you'll like the More...

I liked this book, but I did not enjoy it. The story is enjoyable, but the way it is written is grating. Not only does Terry Brooks reuse phrases like "the little company" but he also reuses entire scenarios from his previous books. For instance, in every story I have read so far the characters have traveled to the Silver River, fallen asleep, and been visited by the King of the Silver River. The only thing I find interesting about this is that each time you learn something new about w

Not quite as good as the first several books. The plot has some good characters and the creation of a new magic weapon that turns up time and time again in future books, but the magic itself just never settled very well. The story is about the son and daughter of the hero from the Elfstones books. They are imbued with the magic left over from his Father's extended use of Elven magic. For the brother, it is the magic of illusion. For the sister, the power to alter reality. While the sister

This book was EXCELLENT! It definately stuck out in my mind as my favorite Terry Brooks book that I've read thus far. Something about this storyline and the characters really just grabbed a hold of my heart! Brin and Jair are my favorite Shannara protagonists so far, espescially Brin. Her journey was so touching and really believable (as weird as that may sound for a fantasy book!).

it's about here that the Shannara series starts to get a bit repetitive

For some reason, I had a really hard time getting through this book. I think each of the books in this trilogy would be better off as stand-alone novels. They all have basically the same plot: Allanon shows up out of nowhere and drags the last of the Ohmsford to some distant land because they are the only ones who can save the world. A good story line, but it gets a bit boring when you read it three times in a row. So while this is still a good book, I wouldn't recommend reading it right after t

Book Review: 3 Treasure Boxes
Before humans walked the earth, Demons created a dark book of magic that became a living thing full of evil. The Warlock Lord's human minions have utilized this knowledge to change themselves into the Mord Wraiths and their evil influence is threatening the world. It is up to Allanon, the last druid and the inimitable Ohmsfords to destroy this atrocious book before it is too late.
Currently there are twenty-three books in the Shannara world. These More...

Hmmm....This ones hard. It was basically a good book, I suppose....I felt though, that Brooks really shouldve ended the series at Elfstones. I know Brooks has always had a tendancy (one that really shows up in the begining of Sword of Shannara) to be long winded and boring, but this one really takes the cake. I stuggled through what could have been an amazing story! Dont get me wrong, still a good story, but...I dont know, it didnt work. Like I said, he really shouldve stopped after Elfstones.

Hello normal person living a relatively happy life,
There is a great darkness rising. You must leave with me immediately if we are to stop it. I want to be upfront with you, you are likely to die and I'm not even going to pretend that I'm telling you everything I know right now. Nonetheless, we must depart immediately or your family and home will be horribly destroyed within the week anyway. I'm sorry but this is simply the state of things.

Appassionante solo a tratti, peraltro molto brevi.

Terry Brooks has created an amazing world in the Shannara series. I have never come across a fantasy series I liked more. (Including Lord of the Rings.)
The first novel, Sword of Shannara is a masterpiece. It makes you cry for more. This is the 3rd in the Sword of Shannara triloy. Start with Sword of shannara, and follow through these others. If you liked LOR, you can't miss absolutely loving Sword of Shannara!

I never got more than about half of the way through Wishsong. This just didn't pull me in as the previous two books did; Brooks justs seems to be recycling the same plot for each successive installment in the series. The characters were interesting and well-developed—I just wish they could have a story of their own instead of being stuck reliving their parents'.

I read this when I was 13 or 14 years old... it was pure escapism, especially for an awkward teen who could not interact with the world very well. I was very drawn to the characters which I immediately connected with... The emotional investment that the plot required of the reader gave one amazing highs and lows and drew you further into the adventure... What a great and imaginative writer, thanks Terry Brooks...

Just as good as Elfstones, I think, even though there were no Sky Elves. Brooks's formula starts to feel more transparent in this book but it works. Gutwrenching at times (even though I tried to hide by slumping down into the sofa, my husband still caught me sniffing and snuffling and snotty-nosed). I'll definitely get the other Shannara books.

Blast Off! This is were we finally catch a glimpse of Brooks potential as a writer. This book is much more original, interisting, written well, and is just better than the other two! THis, like most of Brooks other books, is a coming of age story. It centers around two young children, struggling to control their magic, in order to save the world.

By this point, Brooks doesn't even need to borrow from Tolkein -- he can just rehash from his earlier two books. Plus, all my huge fantasy pet peeves: boring hard good/evil dichotomy, all-powerful protagonist who needs only to unlock her full power, general uncreativity.
The shadow monster things were memorably described, at least.

Taking place a generation after The Elfstones of Shannara, this book is the final book featuring Allanon, the beloved Brooks character. The Wishsong of Shannara, following the lead of Elfstones, is just a little bit darker than the other two, but is again a great book for young readers, and is my favorite of the first three.

i've read in someone's revieuw about the use of the term "little company"
in this book and thought it wouldn't bother me.. but guess what.. IT DID!
The story was well written and the flow of the story line was great, the battles were amazing.. if only.. that damned "little company" wasn't used that much.. it would've had an extra star.
