Based on an authentic Russian folk ballad, this action-adventure story pits a clever and courageous woman against Prince Vladimir of Russia. “The rich, layered watercolors reflect the story’s origins; costumes are striking and the decorative patternings throughout give effective contrast.”-Booklist

Great story - pictures are good, but not great.
Wonderful telling of this folktale where right triumphs over corrupt power. Beautiful illustrations as well.
I'd heard of Vassilisa the Wise, but hadn't read the story before this. Quite enjoyed it.
Lovely folktale from Russia.
