A story in 3 parts about the 100/year war in Europe. Its about a girl who always wanted to see France. But once she escapes the cluthes of her father, a flemish merchant, she finds herself in France in the middle of a war. France doesnt seems as beautiful as she imagined. She finds a friend, and later a lover in Berton de Fleur, a Bard. They get involved in the war deeply, and the 3 books are about them, their family, and the ending of the 100 year war. Thea Beckman is my favorite dutch author so far. I love all of her books that I read so far. I really like that in this book Robert the dwarf is someone who everybody thinks is useless, but in fact he's a great spy. I think it has a great plot and wonderful descriptions.
Thea Beckman (1923-2004) was born in Rotterdam. She began writing in 1947, but it was not until her children were grown that she devoted herself to writing full time. Crusade in Jeans was first published in 1973. It became an overnight success, making her one of the most popular authors of juvenile books in the Netherlands.
