Loved this series. It's been a long time I've read it, but, it was one of the first fantasy series I read where
1) The use of fire-arms.
2) Mankind was not your typical 'european' group. It was first nations people.
3) Duology.
Great great series.
Out of print now, pick em up if you see them!

An intriguing if sometimes a little wordy story, good characters and concept.
I look forward to reading book two.
