I really enjoyed reading this story because it reminded me of my childhood dinner dramas, when I did not want to eat my vegetables. I think this is a fun story to read to children who can all probably relate to very well. The story goes like this, a little girl called Daisy refuses to eat her peas but her mother tries to bribes her to eat her peas. She does this by offering various things, such as buying a chocolate factory, buying her an elephant, a fluffy pencil case and to do Daisy’s chores f...more

Eat Your Peas
Daisy does not like peas and there is nothing that will make her eat them. In the hope of persuading Daisy to eat her peas her Mum offers her a number of things, beginning with staying up an extra half hour to skipping her bath and then spiralling out of control by offering her a new bike, chocolate factories, a zoo and even a space rocket with double retro laser blammers. However, after ever offer her Mum makes Daisy says ‘I don’t like peas’. Daisy’s stubb...more

The book ‘Eat your Peas’ is a rather humorous story! Daisy despises peas and has a debate with her mum during dinnertime over her refusal to eat her peas. Her mum in a humorous desperation offers her outrageous incentives but Daisy keeps refusing to eat her peas. Towards the end, Daisy compromises with her mum that she will eat her peas only if her mum eats her Brussels sprouts. The story ends with a reversal of roles and mum moans, ‘But I don’t like brussel sprouts!’ They then decide to eat som...more

The three stars are mine; the kids would surely give it five. Once upon a time, the Easter Bunny was hopping through the grocery store, buying chocolate rabbits and jellybeans when she came across a bin of discounted books. Finding this and two others, the Bunny scooped them up and put them in children's baskets. (Of the three books, the Bunny was most dubious of this one.) However, one of the children declared that each book was the Favorite Book of its recipient, and so they were read again an...more

“Eat Your Peas” is my all time favourite children’s picture book. It is simple, yet captivating to all. Anyone that does not like peas can sympathise with Daisy, and her contempt for this simple, yet despicable task her mum craves of her. This will make even the most oppressively solemn one smile, or laugh.

There is a lovely form of personification at the beginning of the book, when the peas are described as “ganging up” on Daisy. The book follows a very simple, yet extremely comedic pattern, wh...more

The book has a very nice pace and pictures, easy to read phrases and a good topic: mother tries to persuade her little daughter to eat her peas. The solution presented is that mother promises daughter rewards, even unattainable ones such as purchasing all chocolate factories or several rockets. Moreover, daughter talks back to her mother and they end up eating ice cream together instead of their greens.

I read this to my year 1 class and found they really liked the humour of it, was also used to...more

Daisy'e mother promises to get her just about annnnything she ever wanted, and she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to do, and she gets to never ever sleep again, wash her teeth, or take a shower, or go to school or do her homework just to make her eat her peas!! And daisy's just too stubborn to make a deal. Daisy finally agrees to eat up her pease when her mother eats her Brussels, the ones she doesn't like the most!! Her mother gets her point eventually.
Really funny!!!

Daisy's mom will promise just about anything to get Daisy to eat her peas...chocolate factories, staying up late, bicycles. Nothing tempts Daisy. But, when Daisy 'shows' her mom the errors of her ways, dessert for all is the best reward.

A fun book with instant recognition and repetition for all ages.

I used to love this book. When I was younger it was one of the ones we read to my little sister. (I was a bit too old for it when we got it, but I didn't mind!) Now it reminds me of my new youngest sister, who absolutely hates peas. She can't even bear them on the plate.

Very funny book...requires a lot of breath. Has a cumulative tale sort of feel. Kids very quickly jumped onboard with repeating phrase, and loved the ending when the mom didn't like her brussel sprouts.
Used with food theme.

Mom makes ridiculous bribes to have her daughter eat her peas. She really doesn't like peas. Daughter agrees if only her mother will eat her brussel sprouts. Neither one eats their veggies, but eat ice cream instead

I thought this book was cute until the end. The girl doesn't like peas, and she finds out her mother doesn't like brussels sprouts. They both end up eating ice cream instead - boo.
Kaye
Daisy does not want to eat her peas, no matter how much her mom offers her. The surprise twist is that her mom doesn't want to eat her brussel sprouts either!
Diane
We read this book several times at bed time. It is about a mother that really, really wants her daughter to eat her peas and offers several bribes.
Ginny
Cute and silly read. I don't want to sound too serious about this book but it kind of enforces bribing to get your kid to eat something.
Anne
A mom tries to bribe her daughter to eat her peas, getting more and more ridiculous. Kids will like it and laugh.

Growing up hearing, "Because I'm the Mom, that's why!", this book just doesn't fly with me. LOL

There is some merit to this book in the sense that it teaches everyone is entilted to have an opinion; I'm just not sure the author arrives at that message in the right way.

Katherine loves this book. Daddy thinks it's soso. Daisy doesn't like peas and mommy doesn't like brussels, so in the end they both eat pudding. Shouldn't mommy eat the peas and daisy eat the brussels?
Greta
If you've ever found yourself in a negotiation with a 5 year old, this book will resonate with you. I laughed at the exaggeration and ridiculousness presented in this story. Very funny!
Christian
I thought it was hilarious how the mom wanted the girl to eat her peas and then the girl turned the tables on her and told her she should eat her brussel sprouts.
Melanie
I read this for the first time to my 5-year-old and he giggled and giggled and giggled! It was really cute!
Caroline
