Recommends it for: 4th through 8th graders who like logic puzzles and games, especially art lovers
This is as much a game/puzzle as it is a book.

The illustrations look quite a bit like comics. But there are copies of actual paintings by many artists also.

I usually like games/puzzles such as this, but I didn’t find this one that challenging or fun.

But I did enjoy the art. The book was published in association with the National Gallery of Scotland. Shown are paintings by modern artists, and some information is given about each artist. A glossary of art terms is included toward the back of the b

I was very disappointed with this book. Anna Nilsen could have totally done better! I hate having to search through the entire catalog for details in the pictures and if I can't find details I have to search through AGAIN!! It's very confusing. The rogue painting was a nice touch. On the other hand, though, it taught me about modern art and Da Vinci, and Michelangelo.

In conclusion: This book wasn't up to the mark and I think that Anna Nilsen's "Art Fraud Detective" was MUCH better.

I absolutely love Anna Nilsen's art mystery books. In this particular title, the reader is challenged to "figure out who made each painting" and to "spot the rogue painting." This is a little easier than the challenges in Art Fraud Detective and Art Auction Mystery.

Awesome way to engage in fine art and study famous works by carefully examining mash-ups of modern art works. Not quite as good as Art Auction Mystery, but still very good, particularly if you want more exposure to modern art. Accessible to ages 7-12, can be read alone ages 8-12 too

An interactive, puzzle/mystery book. I wasn't smart enough to figure out how it works at a glance, but it looks pretty cool.
