Although artistically pleasant, the biggest problem with the book was a lack of substance. Published by an academic press, any reader would expect some analysis on the cities, in addition to lovely pictures. Instead, there is a brief historical survey of each city that consists of a few paragraphs. Rome has just six paragraphs; Athens, five paragraphs.
