This is the 24th book of the In Death Series.

The body young idealistic teacher at a tony private school is found by two young students. The hot chocolate that he imbibed daily was found to be poisoned. Eve catches the case and has a very frustrating time trying figure out whodunit.

Innocent in Death is book #24 in the In Death series, written by J.D. Robb. I read this book on a recommendation from my mother, who is a big mystery/detective fiction fan. What intrigued me was that the book has science fiction elements; it takes place in the year 2059 and there are a number of futuristic gadgets, laws, and events that are mentioned throughout the book.

Lt. Eve Dallas and her partner Detective Delia Peabody are called on-scene to investigate the death of a teacher at one of NYC’s top private schools. Craig Foster was a popular history teacher who died from drinking poisoned cocoa. Since Foster brought the cocoa from home, Dallas and Peabody initially suspect his wife or a family member. But there are no red flags there, so they move on to the parents of Foster’s students or one of his colleagues. They hone in on another teacher, one known f...more

I've said before that the "...IN DEATH" series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) is my all-time favorite series, and after 24 books, that still holds true.

With INNOCENT IN DEATH, I spent as much time crying over the emotional disturbance between my favorite couple, Eve Dallas and Roarke, as I did trying to find out who committed the crimes.

When a likeable, all-around good guy teacher at a private school ends up dead, poisoned by ricin in his hot chocolate, the school is in shoc...more

Another excellent book in the series!

The plot was well written, and I found it just as difficult to swallow as the characters in the book. I really liked that.

The side plot was excellent as well. A couple needs a fight every now and again, and I'm glad it turned out the way it did, I think, for both, Eve and Roarke.

Peabody and McNabb are their usual selves, and the, um, 'struggles' I guess you could say, between Eve and Summerset - in this book, Fantastic!

This is definitely a ser...more

This post is out of date at this point, since I actually read this book several days ago--but I wanted to go ahead and get it in so it still counts as part of the 2007 Book Log. ;)

Innocent in Death is the mumble-mumbleth entry (I lost count ages ago) in the "In Death" series, which even a long-time fan like me has to admit is pretty formulaic at this point. That said, this particular installment wasn't half-bad at all. We get another round of a genuine fight between Eve and ...more

I always enjoy great escapist reading and Innocent in Death is guaranteed to keep any reader riveted until the very last page. Set in a futuristic New York City and inhabited by engaging characters this book is all things to all readers....romance novel, thriller, gripping mystery and more.

It features a strong, capable (yet vulnerable) female Detective named Eve Dallas, her uber-successful drop dead gorgeous hubby Roarke; Sommerset, their dedicated, faithful and somewhat acerbic major-domo,...more

You’d think this series would start to get stale after 24 books, but I think this is one of the best ones yet. There’s a bit of a crisis in Eve and Roarke’s world that gives depth to both characters, and the mystery in this one is solid.

Now, about the audio production (I listened to this one). This is the first In Death series book I’ve listened to, and it took me a while to adjust to the (female) reader. It was like the only way she could differentiate between characters was to give...more

Two things must be said first, this is a book in a series, which I have not read any other books from. And I am not a big fan of romances.
So I get thown in the mix with a lot of people I don't know, and that are rather insufficiently introduced to me. To me, all the main characters were, not as much aenigmas, as only partially colored cutouts.

The main plot (dead teacher) was what made me finish the book, but all the side plots and attempts at giving the charaters depth (love stories) miss...more

ok, so after book on book in the "in death" series you start to wonder whether robb was going to get tiring... my answer is that i ended up staying up well past when i went to bed to finish this book--my definition of a 5 star book. yes, i figured out who the killer was long before it was revealed, but i was stumped as to why or how dallas was going to trip the killer up. and i liked the side-story line between roarke & dallas--i felt it was a very real interaction between th...more

A school teacher is poisoned, and Roarke's old partner shows up to cause trouble.

I used to read every new Eve Dallas novel as soon as it came out, so I'm a fan, and it was fun to pick the series up again after a few years' break. The mystery was pretty good; I really wanted to know who the killer was by the end, and there was a good twist. Robb's doing a good job of keeping Eve's and Roarke's relationship interesting, too -- the jealousy element was very well done, I thought.

Very...more

After picking up a J.D. Robb book in the middle of her In Death series I became hooked and have since read the entire series. The entire series is set 50 years in the future in New York City and centers around the life of Detective Eve Dallas. Innocent, while not the absolute best in the series, puts a new twist on the relationship between Eve and her billionaire husband, Roarke, that will (especially for those who have read the rest of the series) keep you begging for more. I have already preor...more

I enjoy the "in death" series. It's not Shakespeare; but not everything has to be. In all honesty, I'd always sort of turned my nose up to this author for years. But one weekend, trapped at a familial function, I found a copy of "Naked in Death". Despite myself (and my preconceived notions), I found myself getting caught up in the characters.

Each mystery is different, but the central cast of characters remains the same. And that's a good thing, I think.

This book in the series seemed especially good to me... maybe just from having to wait for it. I missed her style and rhythm and of course, the characters. Innocent is set in February of 2060 and although I didn't care for the futuristic setting in Naked (the first book in the series) I've really grown to appreciate it. I like the fact that Nora Roberts writing as J.D. Robb just mentions things in passing as if they are taken for granted like they probably would be, leaving much...more

This is, to date, the best book of the series. Whereas Born in Death is sort of light-hearted, this book has challenging subject matter. It is a credit to Roberts' writing that her characters are so realistic to me that I cried through a good bit of the middle of the book. Skip some of the other books in the series, but this is one you just do not want to miss.

I usually don't read futuristic series, however I tend to bend some of my rules...just a little bit. It's interesting how authors can create a futuristic world. It's quite fascinating to see the future in their eyes. It's interesting to see what kind of a future they believe we will have. Advanced technology probably will be a big thing. I don't know I've never really thought of an alternate world, especially things in the future. I'm kind of a go with the flow type.

My first read in the J.D. Robb series and it was a great one. This book kept me on my toes, and turning pages wondering who was going to turn up next. The futuristic tone of the book was also captured well with realistic versions of what current technology and items we use now might be like 20 years from now without being too far-out. I hgihly recommend this page-turner to anyone who is a fan of Nora Roberts and/ormurder mystery.

this book was a breezy read. JD Robb narrates this murder mystery with deftness and expertise. I can see how the series featuring Detective Eve Dallas is a popular one. However, the "who dunnit" was fairly obvious, as it would be to anyone who spent their formative years reading nancy drew and agatha christie books. next time if i want to indulge in a female detective novel, I'll stick with Stephanie Plum.

i find that all of her books are a good read. they all revolve around the same couple-detective dallas, and her multi billionaire husband. all the titles are something "in death", but they are all fun, fast reading books. these are all written by nora roberts under r.d. robb name. as soon as i see a new book in paperback, i buy it immediately. probably read them all.
