Pumpkin Moon
It's October 31 and, under a bright orange moon, something strange is about to happen. . . The trick-or-treaters have gone to bed, but the fun really begins when the jack-o'-lanterns all decide that there's more to life than sitting on the porch. As midnight strikes, carved pumpkins gather by the hundreds, joined by ghosts and witches from far and wide. They gallivant thro...more

A la David Wiesner's Tuesday, at midnight on Halloween jack-o'-lanterns suddenly gain the mysterious power to levitate (although unlike David Wiesner's book, this is a tale of few words instead of no words). Accompanied by witch and ghost costumes brought to life, they sail through various scenes, creating the opportunity for some really fun illustrations. Have you ever wondered what happens to our jack-o-lanterns on Halloween night after we go to sleep? The large-print text is accessible to emergent readers, and the illustrations themselves tell much of this low-fantasy tale. Readers are encouraged to suspend disbelief, just like the little boy in the story. This will spar...more

Um, weird. I was not a fan. The illustrations just seemed really unattractive to me and the story, while moderately imaginative, just didn't really go anywhere. Also, it's just a tad creepy with all these Jack-o-Lanterns streaming out of a giant, freaky looking Pumpkin Moon and carousing all over town.
This book does not have many words in it, but the illustrations are absolutely amazing!! The illustrator has a way of making the characters and surroundings look 100% real. The drawings in this book tell the story more than the words actually do. I am very glad I own this book.
