The political turmoil gets a little more attention in this book, and the politics are a bit hard to follow -- something the author acknowledges in her note at the end (this note itself is very odd, as she basically seems to be complaining about what a trial and tribulation writing Cantarella is). I've been enjoying the Cantarella series, mainly because it's historical Italian church politics at their most corrupt. Plenty of romance and action for the older reader, there's no nudity but this series is definately not geared for the under-14 crowd.

It's always disappointing when a series takes a downturn. Still written wonderfully, and the art is still delicate and intriguing. The problem is the sexual overtones became disturbing.

The plot winds on and cracks start to show in Cesare's facade. We get to see plenty of political scheming (some of which is a little muddy at times.) The art is beautiful though as usual.
