أعد نفسي محظوظه بقراءه هذه التحف. وخاصه تاريخ الاندلس. ولحسن الحظ إني بدأت بدايه صحيحه لتكوين الخلفيه اللازمه لفهم الاحداث التاريخيه للاندلس. فبدأت ب تاريخ الاندلس المصور ل طارق السويدان - المخطوط القرمزي-راوي قرطبه - ثلاثيه غرناطه - ليون الافريقي. فأحسست بأني تشبعت بتلك الاحداث كأنني عايشتها.ويالها من أحداث رائعه. نقلتني من الشمال الى الغرب ،لاهثه حول متابعتها حتى انه يعتريني القلق مما يحمل المستقبل. متمتمه بيني وبين نفسي قائله : هل سينجو هذه المره ؟

Although the premise of this book (based on the travels of the actual Leo Africanus) was what drew me to it, it really suffered from a disjointed plot. Leo's travels are what makes him unique: he is one of the few historical figures who demonstrated the blend of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian faiths around the fall of Granada. It is based on the life of Hasan al-Wazzan, a sixteenth century traveller and writer. And he had quite a life too; he was born in Granada and witnessed the end of Muslim Spain, before also being present at the Ottoman seige of Cairo and the sacking of Rome. On the way he is captured by pirates, sold as a slave, flees the Spanish Inquisition and becomes personal advisor to Pope Leo X. A real life Indiana Jones if ever there was one!

I've started reading this book at the very beginning of this year, and the book was as revolutionary and epic as 2011 is. I've learned so much from this book, I've learned about Andalus, about West Africa, about Rome, and even about my own Egypt. Leo is an extraordinary person with an extraordinary life, reading about him was a great experience that I wouldn't have wanted to miss for anything.

رحالة مسلم يحفظ القرآن ومن ثم يزني ويشرب الخمر ويعتنق النصرانية ويسمي الصلاة عادة ولا يعرج الكاتب على أغلاطه !

Entertaining story that manages to place a well-educated blank slate of a character in the major events of 1490-1530. At its best, it feels like Sinbad the Sailor in the ability of its protagonist to bounce back from progressively weirder circumstances. Leo Africanos was the last novel for me to read for the writer Amin Maalouf whom I consider my favorite writer even though that this book is the first to be published for Maalouf!

Leo, Africanus is without a doubt a riveting, epic tale based on the life of a traveler, diplomat, merchant, slave, scholar, etc; whose life would have made a movie, every critic would deride as self-indulgent, irreal and plainly just way over the top. قرأتها بعد ثلاثية غرناطة مباشرة فرحت عندما قرأت أول فصل منها وهو يحكي عن خروجهم من غرناطة فإذا كانت رضوى عاشور تحدثت عن حياة من بقي في غرناطة فهنا الوزان سيتحدث عن من خرج وكيف استقر به الأمر في المغرب

أعتقد ما يشد المرء في الرواية أكثر أسلوب أمين معلوف في سرد الاحدات رغم ان الرواية مترجمة من الفرنسية الى العربية لكن هذا لا ينقص من جماليتها شيئا فرواية ليون الافريقي أو بالأحرى حسن ابن محمد الوزان الغرناطي أعتقد تجاوبت معها اكثر من غيرها ربما لكثرة الأحداث التي مرت فيها حيت صورت لنا الرواية كل حقبة من الزمن والأحداث التي مرت على أثرها والتي طبعت كلها في شريط ذاكرة حسن من سقوط الاندلس في يد القشتاليين مرورا بطردهم منها ومجيئهم الى فاس وبعدها السفر في مهمة سفير ال تمبوكتو مرورا بالعديد من الاحداث

ترجعك الرواية إلى أعماق التاريخ , الوقت الذي غربت فيه شمس الإسلام في غرناطه وأشرقت في القسطنطينية. تحكي قصة حسن الوزان الرجل الذي لن تستطيع وصفه بعمل واحد أو أن تنسبه لبلد واحد , الوزان تطورت به الأمور وتغيرت ظروفه مرة بعد أخرة في تسلسل رائع يضمن متابعتك إلى النهاية.
